< Proverbs 13 >

1 A wise son [heareth] his father's instruction; but a scorner heareth not rebuke.
Nwa maara ihe na-ege ntị na ndụmọdụ nna ya ma onye na-akwa emo adịghị ege ntị nʼịba mba.
2 A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth; but the soul of the treacherous, violence.
Onye na-eme ezi ihe ga-esite nʼokwu ọnụ ya nweta ụgwọ ọrụ, ma ndị na-aghọgbu ibe ha ga-anata ihe ike dịka ụgwọ ọrụ ha.
3 He that guardeth his mouth keepeth his soul; destruction shall be to him that openeth wide his lips.
Mmadụ zuruoke bụ onye na-ejide ire ya aka! Ma onye ekwuruekwu na-ewetara onwe ya mbibi.
4 A sluggard's soul desireth and hath nothing; but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.
Ndị umengwụ na-achọ ọtụtụ ihe ma ọ dịghị ihe ha na-enweta; ma onye na-arụsị ọrụ ike na-enweta ihe niile ọ chọrọ.
5 A righteous [man] hateth lying; but the wicked maketh himself odious and cometh to shame.
Onye ezi omume kpọrọ ụgha asị, ma okwu ọnụ onye na-emebi iwu na-ewetara ya ihere na nkọcha.
6 Righteousness preserveth him that is perfect in the way; but wickedness overthroweth the sinner.
Ezi omume mmadụ na-abara ya uru na ndụ ya niile, ma ajọ omume ndị mmehie na-ala ha nʼiyi.
7 There is that feigneth himself rich, and hath nothing; there is that maketh himself poor, and hath great wealth.
Ọ dị mmadụ na-eme ka ọ bụ ọgaranya maọbụ onye ụkpa. Ma ọ dịkwa mmadụ na-eme ka ọ bụ onye ụkpa maọbụ ọgaranya.
8 The ransom of a man's life is his riches; but the indigent heareth not rebuke.
Ọgaranya nwere ike jiri ego ya gbapụta onwe ya, ma ogbenye adịghị azaghachi mba banyere imerụ ya ahụ.
9 The light of the righteous rejoiceth; but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.
Ìhè onye ezi omume na-enwupụ enwupụ, ma oriọna onye mmebi iwu ga-anyụ.
10 By pride there only cometh contention; but with the well-advised is wisdom.
Nganga na-eweta esemokwu, ma a na-ahụ amamihe nʼime ndụ ndị na-anata ndụmọdụ.
11 Wealth [gotten] by vanity diminisheth; but he that gathereth by manual-labour shall increase [it].
Akụ a kpatara ngwangwa na-emebikwa ngwangwa; ma akụ sitere nʼịrụsị ọrụ ike na-eto eto.
12 Hope deferred maketh the heart sick; but the desire [that] cometh to pass is a tree of life.
Nchere a na-echere ogologo oge maka imezu olileanya e nwere na-egbu obi, mgbe ihe a na-eche mezuru, oke ọṅụ na-adị.
13 Whoso despiseth the word shall be held by it; but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.
Onye na-elelị ntụziaka anya ga-akwụ ụgwọ nʼihi ya, ma onye na-atụ egwu ihe enyere nʼiwu ga-anata ụgwọ ọrụ ya.
14 The teaching of the wise [man] is a fountain of life, to turn away from the snares of death.
Nkuzi nke onye maara ihe bụ isi iyi nke ndụ, nke na-eme ka mmadụ ghara ịma nʼọnya ọnwụ.
15 Good understanding procureth favour; but the way of the treacherous is hard.
Ezi nghọta na-eweta ihuọma, ma ụzọ nke ndị na-ekwesighị ntụkwasị obi na-eduba ha na mbibi.
16 Every prudent [man] acteth with knowledge; but the foolish layeth open [his] folly.
Onye nwere uche na-eji ọmụma ihe nʼarụ ọrụ, ma ndị nzuzu na-egosipụta enweghị uche ya.
17 A wicked messenger falleth into evil; but a faithful ambassador is health.
Onyeozi ajọ omume na-adaba na nsogbu, ma onyeozi kwesiri ntụkwasị obi na-eweta ọgwụgwọ.
18 Poverty and shame shall be [to] him that refuseth instruction; but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured.
Onye na-ajụ ịdọ aka na ntị ga-anwụ nʼụkpa na nʼihere; ma onye na-anabata ịdọ aka na ntị ka a ga-asọpụrụ.
19 The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul; but it is abomination to the foolish to depart from evil.
Mgbe ihe a na-ele anya mezuru ọ na-atọ mkpụrụobi ụtọ, ma ndị nzuzu kpọrọ isite nʼajọ ihe wezuga onwe ha asị.
20 He that walketh with wise [men] becometh wise; but a companion of the foolish will be depraved.
Na-eso ndị maara ihe ka ị ghọọ onye mara ihe, nʼihi na onye na-eso ndị nzuzu na-aba na nsogbu.
21 Evil pursueth sinners; but to the righteous good shall be repaid.
Nsogbu bụ ihe na-esogharị ndị mmehie, ma ngọzị na-esogharị ndị ezi omume.
22 A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children; but the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the righteous [man].
Mgbe ezi mmadụ nwụrụ, ọ na-ahapụrụ ụmụ ya na ụmụ ụmụ ya akụ, ma mgbe onye mmehie nwụrụ, akụ ya na-abụ nke ndị ezi omume.
23 Much food is in the tillage of the poor; but there is that is lost for want of judgment.

24 He that spareth his rod hateth his son; but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.

25 The righteous eateth to the satisfying of his soul; but the belly of the wicked shall want.
Onye ezi omume na-eri nri ruo na nriju afọ onwe ya, ma nri na-akọ nʼafọ onye ajọ omume.
