Proverbs 13
1 A wise son [heareth] his father's instruction; but a scorner heareth not rebuke.
জ্ঞানবান ছেলে বাবার নির্দেশ মানে, কিন্তু বিদ্রুপকারী ভর্ৎসনায় কান দেয় না।
2 A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth; but the soul of the treacherous, violence.
মানুষ তাদের মুখের ফল দ্বারাই মঙ্গল উপভোগ করে, কিন্তু বিশ্বাসঘাতক হিংস্রতার প্রবৃত্তি রাখে।
3 He that guardeth his mouth keepeth his soul; destruction shall be to him that openeth wide his lips.
যারা ঠোঁট নিয়ন্ত্রণে রাখে তারা তাদের প্রাণরক্ষা করে, কিন্তু যারা বেপরোয়াভাবে কথাবার্তা বলে তাদের সর্বনাশ হয়।
4 A sluggard's soul desireth and hath nothing; but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.
অলসের খিদে কখনও মেটে না, কিন্তু পরিশ্রমীদের বাসনাগুলি পুরোপুরি চরিতার্থ হয়।
5 A righteous [man] hateth lying; but the wicked maketh himself odious and cometh to shame.
ধার্মিকেরা মিথ্যাচারিতা ঘৃণা করে, কিন্তু দুষ্টেরা নিজেদের এক দুর্গন্ধে পরিণত করে ও নিজেদের উপরে লজ্জা ডেকে আনে।
6 Righteousness preserveth him that is perfect in the way; but wickedness overthroweth the sinner.
ধার্মিকতা ন্যায়পরায়ণ মানুষদের রক্ষা করে, কিন্তু দুষ্টতা পাপীদের উৎখাত করে।
7 There is that feigneth himself rich, and hath nothing; there is that maketh himself poor, and hath great wealth.
কেউ ধনী হওয়ার ভান করে, অথচ তার কাছে কিছুই নেই; অন্যজন দরিদ্র হওয়ার ভান করে, অথচ তার কাছে মহাধন আছে।
8 The ransom of a man's life is his riches; but the indigent heareth not rebuke.
মানুষের ধন হয়তো তাদের প্রাণের প্রায়শ্চিত্ত করতে পারে, কিন্তু দরিদ্রকে ভয় দেখানো যায় না।
9 The light of the righteous rejoiceth; but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.
ধার্মিকদের আলো উজ্জ্বলভাবে জ্বলজ্বল করে, কিন্তু দুষ্টদের প্রদীপ নিভে যায়।
10 By pride there only cometh contention; but with the well-advised is wisdom.
যেখানে বিবাদ থাকে, সেখানে অহংকারও থাকে, কিন্তু যারা পরামর্শ নেয় তাদের অন্তরে প্রজ্ঞা পাওয়া যায়।
11 Wealth [gotten] by vanity diminisheth; but he that gathereth by manual-labour shall increase [it].
অসাধু উপায়ে অর্জিত অর্থ কমে যায়, কিন্তু যে অল্প অল্প করে অর্থ সংগ্রহ করে, তার অর্থ বাড়তে থাকে।
12 Hope deferred maketh the heart sick; but the desire [that] cometh to pass is a tree of life.
বিলম্বিত আশা হৃদয়কে অসুস্থ করে তোলে, কিন্তু পূর্ণ আকাঙ্ক্ষা এক জীবনবৃক্ষ।
13 Whoso despiseth the word shall be held by it; but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.
যে নির্দেশ অবজ্ঞা করে তাকে এর মূল্য চোকাতে হয়, কিন্তু যে আজ্ঞাকে সম্মান করে সে পুরস্কৃত হয়।
14 The teaching of the wise [man] is a fountain of life, to turn away from the snares of death.
জ্ঞানবানের শিক্ষা জীবনের উৎস, তা মানুষকে মৃত্যুর ফাঁদ থেকে ফিরিয়ে আনে।
15 Good understanding procureth favour; but the way of the treacherous is hard.
সুবিবেচনা অনুগ্রহজনক হয়, কিন্তু বিশ্বাসঘাতকদের পথ তাদের বিনাশের দিকে নিয়ে যায়।
16 Every prudent [man] acteth with knowledge; but the foolish layeth open [his] folly.
যারা বিচক্ষণ তারা সবাই জ্ঞানপূর্বক কাজ করে, কিন্তু মূর্খেরা তাদের মূর্খতাই প্রকাশ করে ফেলে।
17 A wicked messenger falleth into evil; but a faithful ambassador is health.
দুষ্ট দূত অসুবিধায় পড়ে, কিন্তু বিশ্বস্ত দূত আরোগ্য দান করে।
18 Poverty and shame shall be [to] him that refuseth instruction; but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured.
যে শাসন উপেক্ষা করে তাকে দারিদ্র ও লজ্জা ভোগ করতে হয়, কিন্তু যে সংশোধনে মনোযোগ দেয় সে সম্মানিত হয়।
19 The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul; but it is abomination to the foolish to depart from evil.
পূর্ণ আকাঙ্ক্ষা প্রাণের পক্ষে তৃপ্তিদায়ক, কিন্তু মূর্খেরা মন্দ পথ থেকে ফিরতে চায় না।
20 He that walketh with wise [men] becometh wise; but a companion of the foolish will be depraved.
জ্ঞানবানদের সঙ্গে সঙ্গে চলো ও জ্ঞানবান হও, কারণ মূর্খদের সহচর ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত হয়।
21 Evil pursueth sinners; but to the righteous good shall be repaid.
বিপত্তি পাপীর পশ্চাদ্ধাবন করে, কিন্তু ধার্মিককে মঙ্গল দিয়ে পুরস্কৃত করা হয়।
22 A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children; but the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the righteous [man].
সৎলোক তাদের নাতি-নাতনিদের জন্য উত্তরাধিকার ছেড়ে যায়, কিন্তু পাপীর ধন ধার্মিকদের জন্য মজুত হয়।
23 Much food is in the tillage of the poor; but there is that is lost for want of judgment.
অকর্ষিত জমি দরিদ্রদের জন্য খাদ্য উৎপাদন করে, কিন্তু অবিচার তা নিশ্চিহ্ন করে দেয়।
24 He that spareth his rod hateth his son; but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.
যারা লাঠির ব্যবহার করে না, তারা তাদের সন্তানদের ঘৃণা করে, কিন্তু যারা তাদের সন্তানদের ভালোবাসে, তারা সযত্নে তাদের শাসনও করে।
25 The righteous eateth to the satisfying of his soul; but the belly of the wicked shall want.
ধার্মিকেরা তাদের প্রাণের তৃপ্তি পর্যন্ত খাবার খায়, কিন্তু দুষ্টেরা ক্ষুধার্ত পেটেই থেকে যায়।
