Proverbs 12
1 Whoso loveth discipline loveth knowledge, but he that hateth reproof is brutish.
Qui aime la correction, aime la science; qui hait la réprimande, reste stupide.
2 A good [man] obtaineth favour of Jehovah; but a man of mischievous devices will he condemn.
L'homme de bien obtient la faveur de l'Éternel; mais Il châtie l'homme d'intrigue.
3 A man shall not be established by wickedness; but the root of the righteous shall not be moved.
Point de stabilité pour l'homme dans l'impiété; mais la racine des justes n'est point vacillante.
4 A woman of worth is a crown to her husband; but she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones.
La femme forte est la couronne de son mari; mais celle qui est sa honte, est comme une carie dans ses os.
5 The thoughts of the righteous are right; the counsels of the wicked are deceit.
Dans leurs plans les justes n'ont en vue que le droit; les moyens des impies, c'est la fraude.
6 The words of the wicked are a lying-in-wait for blood; but the mouth of the upright shall deliver them.
Ce dont parlent les impies, c'est de guetter des victimes; mais la bouche du juste les délivre.
7 Overthrow the wicked, and they are no [more]; but the house of the righteous shall stand.
Une fois renversés les méchants cessent d'être; mais la maison des justes demeure.
8 A man is commended according to his wisdom; but he that is of a perverted heart shall be despised.
L'homme est estimé à proportion de son sens; et qui n'a pas le sens droit, tombe dans le mépris.
9 Better is he that is lightly esteemed, and hath a servant, than he that honoureth himself, and lacketh bread.
Mieux vaut celui dont l'état est humble, et qui a un serviteur, que le glorieux qui manque de pain.
10 A righteous man is concerned for the life of his beast; but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.
Le juste connaît les besoins de son bétail; les entrailles des impies sont impitoyables.
11 He that tilleth his land shall be satisfied with bread; but he that followeth the worthless is void of understanding.
Celui qui cultive son champ, a du pain en abondance; mais celui qui recherche les fainéants, manque de sens.
12 The wicked desireth the net of evil [men]; but the root of the righteous yieldeth [fruit].
L'impie désire l'appui des méchants; la racine qu'ont les justes, leur donne [un appui].
13 In the transgression of the lips is an evil snare; but a righteous [man] shall go forth out of trouble.
Les péchés de la langue couvrent un piège funeste; mais le juste échappe à l'angoisse.
14 A man is satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth; and the recompense of a man's hands shall be rendered unto him.
Par les fruits de sa bouche l'homme est rassasié de biens; et ce que fait sa main, est rendu à l'homme.
15 The way of a fool is right in his own eyes; but he that is wise hearkeneth unto counsel.
La voie de l'insensé est droite à ses yeux; mais celui qui écoute un conseil, est sage.
16 The vexation of the fool is presently known; but a prudent [man] covereth shame.
Le chagrin du méchant se montre au moment même; mais celui qui dissimule un affront, est prudent.
17 He that uttereth truth sheweth forth righteousness; but a false witness deceit.
Celui qu'anime la vérité, exprime ce qui est juste; et le témoin menteur, ce qui trompe.
18 There is that babbleth like the piercings of a sword; but the tongue of the wise is health.
Il en est dont le babil est comme des coups d'épée; mais le parler du sage restaure.
19 The lip of truth shall be established for ever; but a lying tongue is but for a moment.
La parole vraie subsiste éternellement; il n'y a qu'un instant pour le langage du mensonge.
20 Deceit is in the heart of them that devise evil; but to the counsellors of peace is joy.
La fraude est dans le cœur de ceux qui machinent le mal; mais la joie est à ceux qui conseillent la paix.
21 There shall no evil happen to a righteous [man]; but the wicked shall be filled with mischief.
Les peines n'atteignent jamais le juste; mais les impies ont plénitude de maux.
22 Lying lips are an abomination to Jehovah; but they that deal truly are his delight.
L'Éternel abhorre les lèvres qui mentent; mais ceux qui pratiquent la vérité, sont ses délices.
23 A prudent man concealeth knowledge; but the heart of the foolish proclaimeth folly.
L'homme prudent cache ce qu'il sait; mais le cœur des insensés proclame sa folie.
24 The hand of the diligent shall bear rule; but the slothful [hand] shall be under tribute.
La main des diligents commandera; mais la main lâche sera corvéable.
25 Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop; but a good word maketh it glad.
Le chagrin qui est dans le cœur, l'abat; mais une bonne parole le réjouit.
26 The righteous guideth his neighbour; but the way of the wicked misleadeth them.
Le juste indique la voie à son prochain; mais la voie des impies les fourvoie.
27 The slothful roasteth not what he took in hunting; but man's precious substance is to the diligent.
L'indolent ne chasse pas son gibier; le précieux trésor de l'homme, c'est la diligence.
28 In the path of righteousness is life, and in the pathway thereof there is no death.
Sur le sentier de la justice il y a vie, et sur la bonne voie, immortalité.
