< Proverbs 10 >

1 The Proverbs of Solomon. A wise son maketh a glad father; but a foolish son is the grief of his mother.
Ko e ngaahi lea fakatātā ʻa Solomone. ʻOku fakafiefiaʻi ʻae tamai ʻe he foha ʻoku poto: ka ko e tama vale ko e fakaongosia ia ki heʻene faʻē.
2 Treasures of wickedness profit nothing; but righteousness delivereth from death.
‌ʻOku ʻikai ʻaonga ʻae koloa ʻoe angahala ka ʻoku fakamoʻui mei he mate ʻe he māʻoniʻoni.
3 Jehovah suffereth not the soul of the righteous [man] to famish; but he repelleth the craving of the wicked.
‌ʻE ʻikai tuku ʻe Sihova ke fiekaia ʻae laumālie ʻoe māʻoniʻoni: ka ʻoku liʻaki ʻe ia ʻae koloa ʻae angahala.
4 He cometh to want that dealeth with a slack hand; but the hand of the diligent maketh rich.
Ko ia ʻoku fai ʻaki ʻae nima vaivai ʻe fakaʻaʻau ia ke masiva: ka ʻoku fakakoloaʻia ʻe he nima ʻoku faʻa ngāue.
5 He that gathereth in summer is a wise son; he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame.
Ko e foha poto ia ʻaia ʻoku utu mai ʻi he faʻahitaʻu mafana: ka ko ia ʻoku mohe ʻi he lolotonga ʻae ututaʻu ko e foha ia ʻoku [tau ]mā ai.
6 Blessings are upon the head of a righteous [man]; but the mouth of the wicked covereth violence.
‌ʻOku hilifaki ʻae ngaahi tāpuaki ki he ʻulu ʻoe angatonu: ka ʻoku tāpuni ʻaki ʻae fakamālohi ʻae ngutu ʻoe angakovi.
7 The memory of the righteous [man] shall be blessed; but the name of the wicked shall rot.
‌ʻOku monūʻia ʻae fakamanatu ki he angatonu: ka ʻe popo ʻae hingoa ʻoe angahala.
8 The wise in heart receiveth commandments; but a prating fool shall fall.
‌ʻE maʻu ʻae ngaahi fekau ʻekinautolu ʻoku loto poto: ka ʻe hinga ʻae vale ʻoku faʻa lau.
9 He that walketh in integrity walketh securely; but he that perverteth his ways shall be known.
‌ʻOku ʻalu mālohi ia ʻaia ʻoku ʻeveʻeva ʻi he angatonu: ka ko ia ʻoku femioʻaki hono ngaahi hala ʻe ʻiloa ia.
10 He that winketh with the eye causeth grief, and a prating fool shall fall.
‌ʻOku tupu ʻae mamahi ʻiate ia ʻoku kakamo ʻaki hono mata: pea ʻe hinga ʻae vale ʻoku faʻa lau.
11 The mouth of a righteous [man] is a fountain of life; but the mouth of the wicked covereth violence.
Ko e ngutu ʻoe tangata māʻoniʻoni ko e matavai ʻoe moʻui: ka ʻoku tāpuni ʻaki ʻae fakamālohi ʻae ngutu ʻoe angakovi.
12 Hatred stirreth up strifes; but love covereth all transgressions.
‌ʻOku tupu mei he fehiʻa ʻae fekeʻikeʻi: ka ʻoku ʻufiʻufi ʻe he ʻofa ʻae angahala kotoa pē.
13 In the lips of an intelligent [man] wisdom is found; but a rod is for the back of him that is void of understanding.
‌ʻOku ʻilo ʻae poto ʻi he loungutu ʻoʻona ʻoku faʻa ʻilo: ka ko e meʻa tā ki he tuʻa ʻoʻona ʻoku masiva fakakaukau.
14 The wise lay up knowledge; but the mouth of the fool is near destruction.
‌ʻOku tokonaki ʻe he kakai poto ʻae ʻilo: ka ʻoku ofi ʻae ngutu ʻoe vale ki he fakaʻauha.
15 The rich man's wealth is his strong city; the destruction of the poor is their poverty.
Ko e kolo mālohi ʻoe tangata koloaʻia ko ʻene koloa: ka ʻe ʻauha ʻae masiva ko ʻenau masiva.
16 The labour of a righteous [man] [tendeth] to life; the revenue of a wicked [man], to sin.
‌ʻOku tautonu ki he moʻui ʻae ngāue ʻae māʻoniʻoni: ka ko e fua ʻoe kakai angakovi ki he angahala.
17 Keeping instruction is the path to life; but he that forsaketh reproof goeth astray.
Ko ia ʻoku ne maʻu ʻae tala fakapoto ʻoku ʻi he hala ki he moʻui: ka ko ia ʻoku liʻaki ʻae valoki ʻoku hē ia.
18 He that covereth hatred hath lying lips, and he that sendeth forth a slander is a fool.
Ko ia ʻoku fufū ʻene fehiʻa ʻaki ʻae loungutu loi, mo ia ʻoku lea ʻaki ʻae meʻa fakakoviʻi, ʻoku fakatou vale.
19 In the multitude of words there wanteth not transgression; but he that restraineth his lips doeth wisely.
‌ʻI he lahi ʻoe lea ʻoku ʻikai ke masiva ia ʻi he angahala: ka ko e poto ia ʻaia ʻoku taʻofi ki hono loungutu.
20 The tongue of the righteous [man] is [as] choice silver; the heart of the wicked is little worth.
‌ʻOku tatau mo e siliva lelei ʻae ʻelelo ʻoe angatonu: ka ʻoku taʻeʻaonga ʻae loto ʻoe angahala.
21 The lips of a righteous [man] feed many; but fools die for want of understanding.
‌ʻOku fafangaʻi ʻae toko lahi ʻe he loungutu ʻoe māʻoniʻoni: ka ʻoku mate ʻae kakai vale koe meʻa ʻi heʻenau masiva poto.
22 The blessing of Jehovah, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow to it.
Ko e tāpuaki meia Sihova, ʻoku ne fakamaʻumeʻaʻi, pea ʻoku ʻikai te ne ʻomi mo ia ha mamahi.
23 It is as sport to a foolish [man] to do wickedness; but a man of understanding hath wisdom.
‌ʻOku hangē ko e meʻa vaʻinga ki he vale ʻa ʻene fai kovi: ka ʻoku ʻi he tangata faʻa fakakaukau ʻae poto.
24 The fear of a wicked [man], it shall come upon him; but the desire of the righteous shall be granted.
‌ʻE hoko mai pe ki he angahala ʻa ʻene manavahē: ka ʻe foaki ki he māʻoniʻoni ʻae meʻa ʻoku ne holi ki ai.
25 As a whirlwind passeth, so is the wicked no [more]; but the righteous is an everlasting foundation.
‌ʻO hangē ko e mole atu ʻae ʻahiohio, ʻoku pehē ʻae angahala: ka ʻoku ʻi he māʻoniʻoni ʻae tuʻunga taʻengata.
26 As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to them that send him.
‌ʻO hangē ko e vaimahi ki he nifo, mo e ʻohuafi ki he mata, ʻoku pehē ʻae fakapikopiko kiate kinautolu ʻoku nau fekaua ia.
27 The fear of Jehovah prolongeth days; but the years of the wicked shall be shortened.
‌ʻOku fakalahi ʻae ngaahi ʻaho ʻe he manavahē kia Sihova: ka ʻe fakanounou ʻae ngaahi taʻu ʻoe angahala.
28 The hope of the righteous is joy; but the expectation of the wicked shall perish.
Ko e ʻamanaki lelei ʻoe māʻoniʻoni ko e fiefia ia: ka ʻe ʻauha ʻae ʻamanaki ʻoe angahala.
29 The way of Jehovah is strength to the perfect [man], but destruction to the workers of iniquity.
Ko e hala ʻo Sihova ko e mālohi ia ki he angatonu: ka ʻe hoko ʻae fakaʻauha kiate kinautolu ʻoku ngāue ʻi he angahala.
30 The righteous [man] shall never be moved; but the wicked shall not inhabit the land.
‌ʻE ʻikai ʻaupito faʻa ueʻi ʻae māʻoniʻoni ʻo taʻengata: pea ʻe ʻikai nofo ʻi māmani ʻae kakai angahala.
31 The mouth of a righteous [man] putteth forth wisdom; but the froward tongue shall be cut out.
‌ʻOku ʻomi mei he ngutu ʻoe angatonu ʻae poto: ka ʻe motuhi ʻae ʻelelo ʻoe talangataʻa.
32 The lips of a righteous [man] know what is acceptable; but the mouth of the wicked is frowardness.
‌ʻOku ʻilo ʻe he loungutu ʻoe māʻoniʻoni ʻae meʻa ʻoku lelei: ka ʻoku lea ʻaki ʻae kovi ʻe he ngutu ʻoe angahala.
