Nahum 1
1 The burden of Nineveh. The book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite.
Oracle sur Ninive. Livre de la Vision de Nahum d’Elqosch.
2 A jealous and avenging God is Jehovah: an avenger is Jehovah, and full of fury: Jehovah taketh vengeance on his adversaries, and he reserveth [wrath] for his enemies.
C’est un Dieu jaloux et vengeur que Yahweh; vengeur est Yahweh et connaissant le courroux; Yahweh se venge de ses adversaires, et garde rancune à ses ennemis.
3 Jehovah is slow to anger, and great in power, and doth not at all clear [the guilty]: Jehovah, — his way is in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet.
Yahweh est patient et grand en force, et il n’accorde pas l’impunité. Yahweh marche dans la tempête et dans l’ouragan, et la nuée est la poussière de ses pieds.
4 He rebuketh the sea, and maketh it dry, and drieth up all the rivers: Bashan languisheth, and Carmel, and the flower of Lebanon languisheth.
Il menace la mer et il la dessèche, et il fait tarir tous les fleuves. Basan et le Carmel sont flétris, flétrie est la végétation du Liban.
5 The mountains quake before him, and the hills melt, and the earth is upheaved at his presence, and the world, and all that dwell therein.
Les montagnes tremblent devant lui, et les collines se fondent; la terre se soulève devant sa face, le monde et tous ceux qui l’habitent.
6 Who shall stand before his indignation? and who shall abide in the fierceness of his anger? His fury is poured out like fire, and the rocks are broken asunder by him.
Devant sa fureur qui subsistera, qui tiendra contre l’ardeur de sa colère? Son courroux se répand comme le feu, et les rochers se brisent devant lui.
7 Jehovah is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him.
Yahweh est bon; il est un refuge au jour de la détresse, et il connaît ceux qui se confient en lui.
8 But with an overrunning flood he will make a full end of the place thereof, and darkness shall pursue his enemies.
Par un flot débordant il détruira entièrement ce lieu, et il poursuivra ses ennemis jusque dans les ténèbres.
9 What do ye imagine against Jehovah? He will make a full end: trouble shall not rise up the second time.
Quelles sont vos pensées sur Yahweh? Il consommera la ruine; la détresse ne surgira pas deux fois.
10 Though they be tangled together [as] thorns, and be as drenched from their drink, they shall be devoured as dry stubble, completely.
Car, entrelacés comme des épines, et comme ivres de leur vin, ils seront consumés comme de la paille toute sèche.
11 Out of thee is gone forth one that imagineth evil against Jehovah, a wicked counsellor.
De toi est sorti celui qui médite le mal contre Yahweh, celui qui forme des desseins criminels.
12 Thus saith Jehovah: Though they be complete in number, and many as they be, even so shall they be cut down, and he shall pass away; and though I have afflicted thee, I will afflict thee no more.
Ainsi parte Yahweh: Bien qu’ils soient intacts et nombreux, ils seront moissonnés et disparaîtront. Je t’ai humiliée et je ne t’humilierai plus.
13 And now will I break his yoke from off thee, and will burst thy bonds asunder.
Et maintenant, ô Juda, je briserai son joug de dessus toi, et je romprai tes liens.
14 And Jehovah hath given commandment concerning thee, that no more of thy name be sown: out of the house of thy god will I cut off the graven image, and the molten image: I will prepare thy grave; for thou art vile.
Quant à toi, voici ce qu’a ordonné Yahweh: Il n’y aura plus de postérité de ton nom; je détruirai de la maison de ton Dieu les images taillées et celles de fonte; je prépare ton sépulcre, parce que tu as été léger.
15 Behold upon the mountains the feet of him that bringeth glad tidings, that publisheth peace! Celebrate thy feasts, Judah, perform thy vows: for the wicked one shall no more pass through thee; he is utterly cut off.
Voici sur les montagnes les pieds d’un messager de bonnes nouvelles, qui annonce la paix. Célèbre tes fêtes, ô Juda, accomplis tes vœux! Car il ne passera plus chez toi; le méchant est entièrement détruit.
