Matthew 11
1 And it came to pass when Jesus had finished commanding his twelve disciples, he departed thence to teach and preach in their cities.
Cuando Jesús hubo terminado de darles instrucciones a sus doce discípulos, se fue de allí para ir a enseñar y predicar públicamente en las ciudades cercanas.
2 But John, having heard in the prison the works of the Christ, sent by his disciples,
Estando Juan en prisión, escuchó sobre lo que el Mesías estaba haciendo, así que envió a sus discípulos
3 and said to him, Art thou the coming [one]? or are we to wait for another?
para que preguntaran en su nombre, “¿Eres tú el que estábamos esperando, o debemos seguir esperando a alguien más?”
4 And Jesus answering said to them, Go, report to John what ye hear and see.
Jesús les respondió: “Regresen y díganle a Juan lo que ustedes oyen y lo que ven.
5 Blind [men] see and lame walk; lepers are cleansed, and deaf hear; and dead are raised, and poor have glad tidings preached to them:
Los ciegos pueden ver, los paralíticos pueden caminar, los leprosos son sanados, los sordos pueden oír, los muertos han vuelto a vivir y los pobres escuchan la buena noticia.
6 and blessed is whosoever shall not be offended in me.
¡Benditos son los que no me desprecian!”
7 But as they went [away], Jesus began to say to the crowds concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness to see? a reed moved about by the wind?
Cuando los discípulos de Juan se fueron, Jesús comenzó a hablarles a las multitudes sobre Juan. “¿Qué esperaban ver cuando salieron al desierto? ¿Una caña zarandeada por el viento?
8 But what went ye out to see? a man clothed in delicate raiment? behold, those who wear delicate things are in the houses of kings.
¿Entonces qué salieron a ver? ¿A un hombre vestido con ropas finas? Las personas que visten así viven en los palacios de los reyes.
9 But what went ye out to see? a prophet? Yea, I say to you, and more than a prophet:
¿Qué salieron a ver, entonces? ¿A un profeta? Sí, ¡Y les digo que él es mucho más que un profeta!
10 this is he of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, who shall prepare thy way before thee.
Él es de quien habló la Escritura: ‘Yo envío a mi mensajero por anticipado. Él preparará el camino para ti’.
11 Verily I say to you, that there is not arisen among [the] born of women a greater than John the baptist. But he who is a little one in the kingdom of the heavens is greater than he.
Les digo la verdad, y es que entre la humanidad, no hay ninguno más grande que Juan el Bautista, pero incluso el menos importante en el reino de los cielos es más grande que él.
12 But from the days of John the baptist until now, the kingdom of the heavens is taken by violence, and [the] violent seize on it.
Desde los tiempos de Juan el Bautista hasta ahora el reino de los cielos sigue estando bajo ataque y personas violentas están tratando de apoderarse de él a la fuerza.
13 For all the prophets and the law have prophesied unto John.
Pues todos los profetas y la ley hablaron por Dios hasta que vino Juan.
14 And if ye will receive it, this is Elias, who is to come.
Si ustedes están listos para creerlo, él es Elías, el que debía venir.
15 He that has ears to hear, let him hear.
¡Todo el que tenga oídos, oiga!
16 But to whom shall I liken this generation? It is like children sitting in the markets, which, calling to their companions,
“¿Con qué compararé esta generación? Son como unos niños que están en la plaza del mercado y se gritan unos a otros diciendo:
17 say, We have piped to you, and ye have not danced: we have mourned to you, and ye have not wailed.
‘tocamos la flauta para ustedes y no danzaron; cantamos canciones tristes y no lloraron’.
18 For John has come neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He has a demon.
Juan no vino para festejar o beber, entonces la gente dice: ‘él está endemoniado’
19 The Son of man has come eating and drinking, and they say, Behold, a man [that is] eating and wine-drinking, a friend of tax-gatherers, and of sinners: — and wisdom has been justified by her children.
Pero el Hijo del hombre, por el contrario, vino y festejó y bebió, y la gente dice: ‘¡Miren, es un glotón y bebe mucho; es amigo de los recaudadores de impuestos y de los pecadores!’ Pero la sabiduría demuestra ser correcta por los resultados de lo que hace”...
20 Then began he to reproach the cities in which most of his works of power had taken place, because they had not repented.
Entonces Jesús comenzó a reprender a las ciudades donde había hecho muchos de sus milagros porque no se habían arrepentido.
21 Woe to thee, Chorazin! woe to thee Bethsaida! for if the works of power which have taken place in you, had taken place in Tyre and Sidon, they had long ago repented in sackcloth and ashes.
“¡Qué vergüenza tienes, Korazin! ¡Qué vergüenza tienes, Betsaida! Si los milagros que hice entre ustedes se hubieran hecho en Tiro y Sidón, hace mucho tiempo ellos se habrían arrepentido en silicio y cenizas.
22 But I say to you, that it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in judgment-day than for you.
¡Pero les digo que el Día del Juicio será mejor para Tiro y Sidón que para ustedes!
23 And thou, Capernaum, who hast been raised up to heaven, shalt be brought down even to hades. For if the works of power which have taken place in thee, had taken place in Sodom, it had remained until this day. (Hadēs g86)
Y ¿qué decir de ti, Capernaúm? ¿Serás exaltada hasta el cielo? No, ¡Tú irás al Hades! Si los milagros que hice entre ustedes hubieran sido hechos en Sodoma, aún hoy existiría Sodoma. (Hadēs g86)
24 But I say to you, that it shall be more tolerable for [the] land of Sodom in judgment-day than for thee.
¡Pero te digo que a Sodoma le irá mejor en el Día del Juicio que a ti!”
25 At that time, Jesus answering said, I praise thee, Father, Lord of the heaven and of the earth, that thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them to babes.
Entonces Jesús oró: “Te alabo, Padre, Señor del cielo y de la tierra, porque has ocultado estas cosas de las mentes de los inteligentes y sabios. Por el contrario, las has revelado a personas comunes.
26 Yea, Father, for thus has it been well-pleasing in thy sight.
¡Sí, Padre, te complaciste en hacerlo así!
27 All things have been delivered to me by my Father, and no one knows the Son but the Father, nor does any one know the Father, but the Son, and he to whom the Son may be pleased to reveal [him].
El Padre lo ha confiado todo en mis manos, y ninguno entiende verdaderamente al Hijo, excepto el Padre, y nadie entiende verdaderamente al Padre, excepto el Hijo, y aquellos a quienes el Hijo elige para mostrarles al Padre.
28 Come to me, all ye who labour and are burdened, and I will give you rest.
Vengan a mí todos ustedes que luchan y están cargados. Yo les daré descanso.
29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am meek and lowly in heart; and ye shall find rest to your souls;
Acepten mi yugo, y aprendan de mí. Porque yo soy bondadoso y tengo un corazón humilde, y en mí encontrarán el descanso que necesitan.
30 for my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
Pues mi yugo es suave, y mi carga es ligera”.
