Luke 24
1 But on the morrow of the sabbath, very early indeed in the morning, they came to the tomb, bringing the aromatic spices which they had prepared.
Le jour du sabbat, elles se reposèrent, selon le commandement; mais, le premier jour de la semaine, à l'aube, elles se rendirent au tombeau, portant les aromates qu'elles avaient préparés.
2 And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre.
Elles trouvèrent qu'on avait roulé la pierre loin du sépulcre,
3 And when they had entered they found not the body of the Lord Jesus.
et, étant entrées, elles ne trouvèrent point le corps du Seigneur Jésus.
4 And it came to pass as they were in perplexity about it, that behold, two men suddenly stood by them in shining raiment.
Elles ne savaient qu'en penser, lorsque leur apparurent deux hommes vêtus d'habits d'une éclatante blancheur.
5 And as they were filled with fear and bowed their faces to the ground, they said to them, Why seek ye the living one among the dead?
Comme elles étaient saisies de frayeur, et qu'elles baissaient la tête vers la terre, ils leur dirent: «Pourquoi cherchez-vous parmi les morts celui qui est vivant?
6 He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spoke to you, being yet in Galilee,
Il n'est point ici, mais il est ressuscité. Rappelez- vous la manière dont il vous a parlé, quand, étant encore en Galilée,
7 saying, The Son of man must be delivered up into the hands of sinners, and be crucified, and rise the third day.
il vous disait qu'il fallait que le Fils de l'homme fût livré entre les mains des pécheurs, qu'il fût crucifié, et qu'il ressuscitât le troisième jour.»
8 And they remembered his words;
Alors, elles se ressouvinrent des paroles de Jésus,
9 and, returning from the sepulchre, related all these things to the eleven and to all the rest.
et, à leur retour du sépulcre, elles rapportèrent toutes ces choses aux Onze et à tous les autres disciples.
10 Now it was Mary of Magdala, and Johanna, and Mary the [mother] of James, and the others with them, who told these things to the apostles.
Celles qui leur firent ce rapport, étaient Marie Madeleine, Jeanne, Marie, mère de Jacques, et les autres femmes qui étaient avec elles;
11 And their words appeared in their eyes as an idle tale, and they disbelieved them.
mais les apôtres ne virent dans ce rapport que des rêveries et ne crurent point ces femmes.
12 But Peter, rising up, ran to the sepulchre, and stooping down he sees the linen clothes lying there alone, and went away home, wondering at what had happened.
[Toutefois Pierre se leva, courut au sépulcre, et, s'étant baissé, il vit les bandes qui étaient à terre, toutes seules, et s'en retourna chez lui, surpris de ce qui était arrivé.]
13 And behold, two of them were going on the same day to a village distant sixty stadia from Jerusalem, called Emmaus;
Ce même jour, deux disciples allaient dans un village nommé Emmaüs, éloigné de Jérusalem de soixante stades;
14 and they conversed with one another about all these things which had taken place.
et ils s'entretenaient de tous ces événements.
15 And it came to pass as they conversed and reasoned, that Jesus himself drawing nigh, went with them;
Pendant qu'ils parlaient et discutaient, Jésus lui-même s'approcha, et fit route avec eux.
16 but their eyes were holden so as not to know him.
Mais ils avaient comme un bandeau sur les yeux, de sorte qu'ils ne le reconnurent point.
17 And he said to them, What discourses are these which pass between you as ye walk, and are downcast?
Il leur dit: «De quoi vous entretenez-vous chemin faisant?... et vous êtes tout tristes.»
18 And one [of them], named Cleopas, answering said to him, Thou sojournest alone in Jerusalem, and dost not know what has taken place in it in these days?
L'un d'eux, qui s'appelait Cléopas, lui répondit: «Tu es bien le seul dans Jérusalem, qui ne sache pas ce qui s'est passé ces derniers jours.»
19 And he said to them, What things? And they said to him, The things concerning Jesus the Nazaraean, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people;
— «Et quoi?» leur dit-il. Ils lui répondirent: «Ce qui est arrivé à Jésus de Nazareth, qui était un prophète puissant en oeuvres et en paroles, devant Dieu et devant tout le peuple:
20 and how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him up to [the] judgment of death and crucified him.
comment nos principaux sacrificateurs et nos sénateurs l'ont livré pour être condamné à mort, et l'ont crucifié.
21 But we had hoped that he was [the one] who is about to redeem Israel. But then, besides all these things, it is now, to-day, the third day since these things took place.
Pour nous, nous espérions que ce serait lui qui délivrerait Israël; mais, après tout cela, voici le troisième jour, aujourd'hui, que ces événements se sont passés.
22 And withal, certain women from amongst us astonished us, having been very early at the sepulchre,
Il est vrai que des femmes qui sont avec nous, nous ont extraordinairement surpris: elles s'étaient rendues au point du jour au sépulcre,
23 and, not having found his body, came, saying that they also had seen a vision of angels, who say that he is living.
et, n'ayant point trouvé son corps, elles sont venues dire que des anges leur sont apparus, et qu'ils le disent vivant.
24 And some of those with us went to the sepulchre, and found it so, as the women also had said, but him they saw not.
Quelques-uns des nôtres sont allés au sépulcre, ils ont trouvé toutes choses comme les femmes l’avaient annoncé; mais lui, ils ne l’ont pas vu.»
25 And he said to them, O senseless and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken!
Alors il leur dit: «Hommes dépourvus de sens, esprits lents à croire tout ce qu'ont dit les prophètes!
26 Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into his glory?
Ne fallait-il pas que le Messie passât par ces souffrances pour entrer dans sa gloire?»
27 And having begun from Moses and from all the prophets, he interpreted to them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.
Puis, commençant par Moïse, et poursuivant par tous les prophètes, il leur expliqua, dans toutes les Ecritures, ce qui le concernait.
28 And they drew near to the village where they were going, and he made as though he would go farther.
Cependant ils approchèrent du village où ils se rendaient, et comme l’étranger paraissait vouloir aller plus loin,
29 And they constrained him, saying, Stay with us, for it is toward evening and the day is declining. And he entered in to stay with them.
ils le pressèrent de s'arrêter, disant: «Reste avec nous; car voici le soir, et le jour a déjà baissé; »et il entra dans le village pour rester avec eux.
30 And it came to pass as he was at table with them, having taken the bread, he blessed, and having broken it, gave it to them.
Quand il se mit à table avec eux, il prit le pain, et ayant prononcé la bénédiction, il le rompit, et le leur donna:
31 And their eyes were opened, and they recognised him. And he disappeared from them.
alors leurs yeux se dessillèrent; ils le reconnurent; mais il disparut de devant leurs yeux.
32 And they said to one another, Was not our heart burning in us as he spoke to us on the way, [and] as he opened the scriptures to us?
Ils se dirent l'un à l'autre: «Notre coeur n'était-il pas tout brûlant au dedans de nous, lorsqu'il nous parlait en chemin, et qu'il nous expliquait les Écritures?»
33 And rising up the same hour, they returned to Jerusalem. And they found the eleven, and those with them, gathered together,
Et, se levant à l'heure même, ils retournèrent à Jérusalem. Ils trouvèrent réunis les Onze et leurs compagnons,
34 saying, The Lord is indeed risen and has appeared to Simon.
qui leur dirent: «Le Seigneur est réellement ressuscité, et il est apparu à Simon.»
35 And they related what [had happened] on the way, and how he was made known to them in the breaking of bread.
Ils racontèrent à leur tour, ce qui leur était arrivé en chemin, et comment ils l'avaient reconnu au moment où il avait rompu le pain.
36 And as they were saying these things, he himself stood in their midst, and says to them, Peace [be] unto you.
Pendant qu'ils s'entretenaient ainsi, lui-même parut au milieu d'eux.
37 But they, being confounded and being frightened, supposed they beheld a spirit.
Frappés de stupeur et d'effroi, ils crurent voir un esprit;
38 And he said to them, Why are ye troubled? and why are thoughts rising in your hearts?
et Jésus leur dit: «Pourquoi êtes-vous troublés? Pourquoi vous faites-vous des idées folles?
39 behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself. Handle me and see, for a spirit has not flesh and bones as ye see me having.
Voyez mes mains et mes pieds: c'est bien moi. Palpez-moi, et considérez qu'un esprit n'a ni chair ni os, comme vous voyez que j'en ai.»
40 And having said this he shewed them his hands and his feet.
[Après avoir ainsi parlé, il leur montra ses mains et ses pieds.]
41 But while they yet did not believe for joy, and were wondering, he said to them, Have ye anything here to eat?
Comme la joie les rendait encore incrédules, et qu'ils ne revenaient pas de leur surprise, il leur dit: «Avez-vous ici quelque chose à manger?»
42 And they gave him part of a broiled fish and of a honeycomb;
Ils lui présentèrent un morceau de poisson rôti et un rayon de miel.
43 and he took it and ate before them.
Il les prit, et les mangea devant eux.
44 And he said to them, These [are] the words which I spoke to you while I was yet with you, that all that is written concerning me in the law of Moses and prophets and psalms must be fulfilled.
Puis il leur, dit: «C'est là ce que je vous annonçais quand j'étais encore avec vous; je vous disais qu'il fallait que s'accomplit tout ce qui est écrit de moi dans la Loi de Moïse, dans les Prophètes et dans les Psaumes.»
45 Then he opened their understanding to understand the scriptures,
Alors il leur ouvrit l'esprit, afin qu'ils entendissent les Ecritures.
46 and said to them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved the Christ to suffer, and to rise from among the dead the third day;
Et il leur dit: «C'est ainsi qu'il est écrit que le Messie souffrirait, et qu'il ressusciterait des morts le troisième jour,
47 and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name to all the nations beginning at Jerusalem.
et qu'on prêcherait en son nom la repentance et le pardon des péchés à toutes les nations, en commençant par Jérusalem.
48 And ye are witnesses of these things.
Vous êtes témoins de ces faits.
49 And behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you; but do ye remain in the city till ye be clothed with power from on high.
Maintenant, je vais vous envoyer ce que mon Père vous a promis; pour vous, demeurez tranquillement dans la ville, jusqu'à ce que vous soyez revêtus d'une puissance qui vient d'en haut.»
50 And he led them out as far as Bethany, and having lifted up his hands, he blessed them.
Il les emmena hors de la ville, jusqu’à Béthanie; et, élevant les mains, il les bénit.
51 And it came to pass as he was blessing them, he was separated from them and was carried up into heaven.
Pendant qu'il les bénissait, il se sépara d'eux.
52 And they, having done him homage, returned to Jerusalem with great joy,
Pour eux, ils s'en retournèrent à Jérusalem, pleins d'une grande joie;
53 and were continually in the temple praising and blessing God.
et ils étaient continuellement dans le temple, louant et bénissant Dieu.
