Judges 15
1 And it came to pass after a time, in the days of the wheat-harvest, that Samson visited his wife with a kid of the goats. And he said, I will go in to my wife into the chamber; but her father would not suffer him to go in.
Nach einiger Zeit aber, in den Tagen der Weizenernte, wollte Simson seine Frau besuchen, indem er ihr ein Ziegenböckchen mitbrachte; er dachte dabei: »Ich will zu meiner Frau in die Frauenwohnung gehen.« Doch ihr Vater gestattete ihm nicht hineinzugehen,
2 And her father said, I verily thought that thou didst utterly hate her; therefore I gave her to thy companion. Is not her younger sister fairer than she? Let her, I pray thee, be thine instead of her.
sondern sagte: »Ich mußte doch fest annehmen, daß du nichts mehr von ihr wissen wolltest; daher habe ich sie einem von deinen Hochzeitsgenossen zur Frau gegeben. Aber ihre jüngere Schwester ist noch schöner als sie: die soll deine Frau werden an ihrer Statt!«
3 And Samson said to them, This time I am blameless toward the Philistines, though I do them harm.
Da erwiderte ihnen Simson: »Diesmal haben mir die Philister nichts vorzuwerfen, wenn ich ihnen einen Denkzettel gebe!«
4 And Samson went and caught three hundred jackals, and took torches, and turned tail to tail, and put a torch in the midst between the two tails.
Er ging also hin und fing dreihundert Füchse, nahm dann Feuerbrände, kehrte Schwanz gegen Schwanz und brachte einen Feuerbrand mitten zwischen je zwei Schwänzen an.
5 And he set the torches on fire, and let [them] run into the standing corn of the Philistines, and burnt up both the shocks, and also the standing corn, and the olive gardens.
Hierauf zündete er die Feuerbrände an, jagte die Tiere in die Kornfelder der Philister und setzte dadurch sowohl die Garbenhaufen als auch das auf dem Halm stehende Getreide und selbst die Weinberge und Ölbaumgärten in Brand.
6 And the Philistines said, Who has done this? And they answered, Samson, the son-in-law of the Timnite, because he took his wife and gave her to his companion. And the Philistines came up, and burned her and her father with fire.
Als nun die Philister fragten: »Wer hat das getan?«, hieß es: »Simson, der Schwiegersohn des Thimniters, weil der ihm seine Frau genommen und sie einem von seinen Hochzeitsgenossen gegeben hat.« Da kamen die Philister herangezogen und verbrannten sie samt ihres Vaters Hause.
7 And Samson said to them, If ye act thus, for a certainty I will avenge myself on you, and then I will cease.
Simson aber sagte zu ihnen: »Wenn ihr es so treibt, will ich nicht eher ruhen, als bis ich mich an euch gerächt habe!«
8 And he smote them hip and thigh with a great slaughter. And he went down and dwelt in the cleft of the cliff Etam.
Hierauf richtete er sie mit Schlägen so zu, daß kein gesundes Glied an ihnen blieb; dann ging er hinab und nahm seinen Wohnsitz in der Felsenkluft von Etham.
9 And the Philistines went up, and encamped in Judah, and spread themselves in Lehi.
Da zogen die Philister hinauf, lagerten sich in Juda und breiteten sich bei Lehi aus.
10 And the men of Judah said, Why are ye come up against us? And they said, To bind Samson are we come up, to do to him as he has done to us.
Als nun die Judäer fragten: »Warum seid ihr gegen uns heraufgezogen?«, antworteten sie: »Um Simson gefangenzunehmen, sind wir hergekommen; wir wollen ihm Gleiches mit Gleichem vergelten.«
11 Then three thousand men of Judah went down to the cleft of the cliff Etam, and said to Samson, Knowest thou not that the Philistines rule over us? And what is this that thou hast done to us? And he said to them, As they did to me, so have I done to them.
Da zogen dreitausend Mann aus Juda nach der Felsenkluft von Etham hinab und sagten zu Simson: »Weißt du nicht, daß die Philister Herren über uns sind? Was hast du uns da angerichtet!« Simson antwortete ihnen: »Wie sie mir getan, so habe ich ihnen wieder getan.«
12 And they said to him, We are come down to bind thee, that we may give thee into the hand of the Philistines. And Samson said to them, Swear to me that ye will not fall on me yourselves.
Da sagten sie zu ihm: »Wir sind hergekommen, um dich zu binden und dich den Philistern auszuliefern.« Simson entgegnete ihnen: »Leistet mir einen Schwur, daß ihr selbst mich nicht erschlagen wollt!«
13 And they spoke to him, saying, No; but we will bind thee fast, and deliver thee into their hand; but we certainly shall not put thee to death. And they bound him with two new cords, and brought him up from the cliff.
Sie antworteten ihm: »Nein, wir wollen dich nur binden und dich ihnen dann ausliefern; aber töten wollen wir dich nicht.« Darauf banden sie ihn mit zwei neuen Stricken und führten ihn aus der Felsenkluft weg hinauf.
14 When he came to Lehi, the Philistines shouted against him. And the Spirit of Jehovah came upon him, and the cords that were on his arms became as threads of flax that are burned with fire, and his bands loosed from off his hands.
Als er nun bis Lehi gekommen war und die Philister seine Ankunft mit Jubelgeschrei begrüßten, da kam der Geist des HERRN über ihn, so daß die Stricke an seinen Armen wie Flachsfäden wurden, die vom Feuer versengt sind, und seine Fesseln ihm an den Händen zergingen.
15 And he found a fresh jawbone of an ass, and put forth his hand and took it, and slew with it a thousand men.
Als er dann einen noch frischen Eselskinnbacken fand, streckte er seine Hand aus, ergriff ihn und erschlug damit tausend Mann.
16 And Samson said, With the jawbone of an ass, a heap, two heaps, With the jawbone of an ass have I slain a thousand men.
Da rief Simson aus: »Mit dem Eselskinnbacken habe ich sie gründlich geschoren! Mit dem Eselskinnbacken habe ich tausend Mann erschlagen!«
17 And it came to pass when he had ended speaking, that he cast away the jawbone out of his hand, and called that place Ramath-Lehi.
Als er diese Worte ausgerufen hatte, warf er den Kinnbacken weg; und man nannte jenen Ort seitdem »Kinnbackenhöhe«.
18 And he was very thirsty, and called on Jehovah, and said, Thou hast given by the hand of thy servant this great deliverance, and now shall I die for thirst, and fall into the hand of the uncircumcised?
Nun aber dürstete ihn sehr; daher betete er laut zum HERRN: »Du hast durch die Hand deines Knechtes diesen großen Sieg herbeigeführt, und nun soll ich verdursten und den Heiden in die Hände fallen?«
19 And God clave the hallow rock which was in Lehi, and water came out of it. And he drank, and his spirit came again, and he revived. Therefore its name was called En-hakkore, which is in Lehi to this day.
Da spaltete Gott die Vertiefung in dem Kinnbacken, so daß Wasser daraus hervorfloß; und als er getrunken hatte, kehrten seine Lebensgeister zurück, und er erholte sich wieder; daher nannte man (jenen Ort) »Quelle des Rufers«; sie befindet sich bei Lehi noch heutigen Tages. –
20 And he judged Israel in the days of the Philistines twenty years.
Er war dann zwanzig Jahre lang Richter in Israel zur Zeit der Herrschaft der Philister.
