Joshua 5
1 And it came to pass when all the kings of the Amorites, who were beyond the Jordan westward, and all the kings of the Canaanites, who were by the sea, heard that Jehovah had dried up the waters of the Jordan from before the children of Israel, until they had passed over, that their heart melted, and there was no spirit in them any more, because of the children of Israel.
Και ότε ήκουσαν πάντες οι βασιλείς των Αμορραίων, οι πέραν του Ιορδάνου προς δυσμάς, και πάντες οι βασιλείς των Χαναναίων, οι παρά την θάλασσαν, ότι ο Κύριος απεξήρανε τα ύδατα του Ιορδάνου απ' έμπροσθεν των υιών Ισραήλ εωσού διέβησαν, διελύθησαν αι καρδίαι αυτών· και δεν έμεινε πλέον εις αυτούς πνοή, από του φόβου των υιών Ισραήλ.
2 At that time Jehovah said to Joshua, Make thee stone-knives, and circumcise again the children of Israel the second time.
Κατ' εκείνον τον καιρόν είπεν ο Κύριος προς τον Ιησούν, Κάμε εις σεαυτόν λιθίνας μαχαίρας κοπτεράς, και περίτεμε εκ δευτέρου τους υιούς Ισραήλ.
3 And Joshua made him stone-knives, and circumcised the children of Israel at the hill of Araloth.
Και έκαμεν ο Ιησούς εις εαυτόν λιθίνας μαχαίρας κοπτεράς, και περιέτεμε τους υιούς Ισραήλ επί του βουνού των ακροβυστιών.
4 And this is the cause why Joshua circumcised [them]: all the people that had come out of Egypt, the males, all the men of war, had died in the wilderness on the way, after they came out of Egypt.
Και η αιτία, διά την οποίαν ο Ιησούς έκαμε την περιτομήν, είναι ότι πας ο λαός ο εξελθών εξ Αιγύπτου, τα αρσενικά, πάντες οι άνδρες του πολέμου, απέθανον εν τη ερήμω καθ' οδόν, αφού εξήλθον εξ Αιγύπτου.
5 For all the people that came out were circumcised; but all the people that were born in the wilderness on the way, after they came out of Egypt, [them] had they not circumcised.
Και πας ο λαός ο εξελθών ήτο περιτετμημένος· πας δε ο λαός όστις εγεννήθη εν τη ερήμω καθ' οδόν, αφού εξήλθον εξ Αιγύπτου, δεν είχε περιτμηθή.
6 For the children of Israel had walked forty years in the wilderness, till the whole nation of men of war had perished who had come out of Egypt, who had not hearkened to the voice of Jehovah; to whom Jehovah had sworn that he would not show them the land which Jehovah had sworn unto their fathers that he would give us, a land flowing with milk and honey.
Διότι τεσσαράκοντα έτη περιήρχοντο οι υιοί Ισραήλ εν τη ερήμω, εωσού ετελεύτησαν πας ο λαός, οι άνδρες του πολέμου, οι εξελθόντες εξ Αιγύπτου, επειδή δεν υπήκουσαν εις την φωνήν του Κυρίου· προς τους οποίους ο Κύριος ώμοσεν, ότι δεν θέλει αφήσει αυτούς να ίδωσι την γην, την οποίαν ώμοσεν ο Κύριος προς τους πατέρας αυτών ότι θέλει δώσει εις ημάς, γην ρέουσαν γάλα και μέλι.
7 And their sons [whom] he raised up in their stead, them Joshua circumcised, for they were uncircumcised, because they had not circumcised them on the way.
Αντί δε τούτων αντικατέστησε τους υιούς αυτών, τους οποίους ο Ιησούς περιέτεμε· διότι ήσαν απερίτμητοι, επειδή δεν είχον περιτέμει αυτούς καθ' οδόν.
8 And it came to pass when the whole nation had finished being circumcised, that they abode in their place in the camp, till they were whole.
Και αφού ετελείωσαν περιτέμνοντες πάντα τον λαόν, εκάθηντο εις τους τόπους αυτών εν τω στρατοπέδω, εωσού ιατρεύθησαν.
9 And Jehovah said to Joshua, This day have I rolled away the reproach of Egypt from off you. And the name of the place was called Gilgal to this day.
Και είπε Κύριος προς τον Ιησούν, Ταύτην την ημέραν αφήρεσα αφ' υμών τον ονειδισμόν της Αιγύπτου. Διά τούτο ωνομάσθη ο τόπος εκείνος Γάλγαλα έως της σήμερον.
10 And the children of Israel encamped in Gilgal, and held the passover on the fourteenth day of the month, at even, in the plains of Jericho.
Και οι υιοί Ισραήλ εστρατοπέδευσαν εν Γαλγάλοις και έκαμον το πάσχα τη δεκάτη τετάρτη του μηνός προς το εσπέρας, εις τας πεδιάδας της Ιεριχώ.
11 And they ate of the old corn of the land on the morrow after the passover, unleavened loaves, and roasted [corn] on that same day.
Και τη επαύριον του πάσχα έφαγον άζυμα από του σίτου της γης, και σίτον πεφρυγμένον την αυτήν εκείνην ημέραν.
12 And the manna ceased on the morrow, when they had eaten of the old corn of the land; and there was no more manna for the children of Israel; and they ate of the produce of the land of Canaan that year.
Και τη επαύριον αφού έφαγον από του σίτου της γης, εξέλιπε το μάννα· και δεν είχον πλέον μάννα οι υιοί Ισραήλ, αλλ' έτρωγον από των γεννημάτων της γης Χαναάν τον ενιαυτόν εκείνον.
13 And it came to pass when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, there stood a man before him with his sword drawn in his hand. And Joshua went to him, and said to him: Art thou for us, or for our enemies?
Και ότε ο Ιησούς ήτο πλησίον της Ιεριχώ, ύψωσε τους οφθαλμούς αυτού και είδε, και ιδού, ίστατο κατέναντι αυτού άνθρωπος και η ρομφαία αυτού ήτο γεγυμνωμένη εν τη χειρί αυτού· και προσελθών ο Ιησούς είπε προς αυτόν, Ημέτερος είσαι ή των υπεναντίων ημών;
14 And he said, No; for [as] captain of the army of Jehovah am I now come. Then Joshua fell upon his face to the earth, and worshipped, and said to him, What saith my lord unto his servant?
Ο δε είπεν, Ουχί· αλλ' εγώ Αρχιστράτηγος της δυνάμεως του Κυρίου τώρα ήλθον. Και έπεσεν ο Ιησούς επί την γην κατά πρόσωπον αυτού και προσεκύνησε, και είπε προς αυτόν, Τι προστάζει ο κύριός μου εις τον δούλον αυτού;
15 And the captain of Jehovah's army said to Joshua, Loose thy sandal from off thy foot: for the place whereon thou standest is holy. And Joshua did so.
Και ο Αρχιστράτηγος της δυνάμεως του Κυρίου είπε προς τον Ιησούν, Λύσον το υπόδημά σου εκ των ποδών σου· διότι ο τόπος, επί του οποίου ίστασαι, είναι άγιος. Και ο Ιησούς έκαμεν ούτω.
