Joshua 5
1 And it came to pass when all the kings of the Amorites, who were beyond the Jordan westward, and all the kings of the Canaanites, who were by the sea, heard that Jehovah had dried up the waters of the Jordan from before the children of Israel, until they had passed over, that their heart melted, and there was no spirit in them any more, because of the children of Israel.
Als nun alle Könige der Amoriter, die diesseits des Jordan gegen Westen wohnten, und alle Könige der Kanaaniter am Meere hörten, wie der HERR das Wasser des Jordan vor den Kindern Israel ausgetrocknet hatte, bis sie hinübergezogen waren, verzagte ihr Herz, und es blieb kein Mut mehr in ihnen vor den Kindern Israel.
2 At that time Jehovah said to Joshua, Make thee stone-knives, and circumcise again the children of Israel the second time.
Zu der Zeit sprach der HERR zu Josua: Mache dir scharfe Messer und beschneide die Kinder Israel wiederum, zum zweitenmal.
3 And Joshua made him stone-knives, and circumcised the children of Israel at the hill of Araloth.
Da machte sich Josua scharfe Messer und beschnitt die Kinder Israel auf dem Hügel Aralot.
4 And this is the cause why Joshua circumcised [them]: all the people that had come out of Egypt, the males, all the men of war, had died in the wilderness on the way, after they came out of Egypt.
Und das ist die Ursache, warum Josua sie beschnitt: Alles Volk männlichen Geschlechts, alle Kriegsleute, waren in der Wüste auf dem Wege gestorben, nachdem sie aus Ägypten gezogen waren.
5 For all the people that came out were circumcised; but all the people that were born in the wilderness on the way, after they came out of Egypt, [them] had they not circumcised.
Das ganze Volk, das auszog, war zwar beschnitten; aber alles Volk, das in der Wüste auf dem Wege geboren war, nach dem Auszug aus Ägypten, war nicht beschnitten.
6 For the children of Israel had walked forty years in the wilderness, till the whole nation of men of war had perished who had come out of Egypt, who had not hearkened to the voice of Jehovah; to whom Jehovah had sworn that he would not show them the land which Jehovah had sworn unto their fathers that he would give us, a land flowing with milk and honey.
Denn die Kinder Israel wanderten vierzig Jahre lang in der Wüste, bis das ganze Geschlecht, die Kriegsleute, die aus Ägypten gezogen, umgekommen waren, weil sie der Stimme des HERRN nicht gehorcht hatten; wie denn der HERR ihnen geschworen, daß sie das Land nicht sehen sollten, welches uns zu geben der HERR ihren Vätern geschworen hatte, ein Land, das von Milch und Honig fließt.
7 And their sons [whom] he raised up in their stead, them Joshua circumcised, for they were uncircumcised, because they had not circumcised them on the way.
Derselben Kinder nun, die der HERR an ihrer Statt erweckt hatte, beschnitt Josua; denn sie waren unbeschnitten, weil man sie auf dem Wege nicht beschnitten hatte.
8 And it came to pass when the whole nation had finished being circumcised, that they abode in their place in the camp, till they were whole.
Als nun das ganze Volk beschnitten war, blieben sie an ihrem Ort im Lager, bis sie heil wurden.
9 And Jehovah said to Joshua, This day have I rolled away the reproach of Egypt from off you. And the name of the place was called Gilgal to this day.
Und der HERR sprach zu Josua: Heute habe ich die Schande Ägyptens von euch abgewälzt. Darum wurde jener Ort Gilgal genannt bis auf diesen Tag.
10 And the children of Israel encamped in Gilgal, and held the passover on the fourteenth day of the month, at even, in the plains of Jericho.
Während nun die Kinder Israel sich in Gilgal lagerten, hielten sie das Passah am vierzehnten Tage des Monats am Abend auf der Ebene von Jericho.
11 And they ate of the old corn of the land on the morrow after the passover, unleavened loaves, and roasted [corn] on that same day.
Und sie aßen von den Früchten des Landes am Tage nach dem Passah, nämlich ungesäuertes Brot und geröstetes Korn, an eben diesem Tage.
12 And the manna ceased on the morrow, when they had eaten of the old corn of the land; and there was no more manna for the children of Israel; and they ate of the produce of the land of Canaan that year.
Und das Manna hörte auf am folgenden Tage, da sie von der Frucht des Landes aßen; und es gab für die Kinder Israel kein Manna mehr, sondern in jenem Jahre aßen sie von den Früchten des Landes Kanaan.
13 And it came to pass when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, there stood a man before him with his sword drawn in his hand. And Joshua went to him, and said to him: Art thou for us, or for our enemies?
Es begab sich aber, als Josua bei Jericho war, daß er seine Augen erhob und sich umsah; und siehe, ein Mann stand ihm gegenüber, der hatte ein bloßes Schwert in seiner Hand. Und Josua ging zu ihm und sprach zu ihm: Gehörst du uns an oder unsern Feinden?
14 And he said, No; for [as] captain of the army of Jehovah am I now come. Then Joshua fell upon his face to the earth, and worshipped, and said to him, What saith my lord unto his servant?
Er sprach: Nein, sondern ich bin der Fürst über das Heer des HERRN; jetzt bin ich gekommen! Da fiel Josua auf sein Angesicht zur Erde und betete an und sprach zu ihm: Was sagt mein Herr seinem Knechte?
15 And the captain of Jehovah's army said to Joshua, Loose thy sandal from off thy foot: for the place whereon thou standest is holy. And Joshua did so.
Und der Fürst über das Herr des HERRN sprach zu Josua: Ziehe deine Schuhe aus von deinen Füßen; denn der Ort, darauf du stehst, ist heilig! Und Josua tat also.
