John 6
1 After these things Jesus went away beyond the sea of Galilee, [or] of Tiberias,
Hierauf begab sich Jesus auf die andere Seite des Sees von Galiläa oder von Tiberias.
2 and a great crowd followed him, because they saw the signs which he wrought upon the sick.
Eine große Volksmenge begleitete ihn dorthin, weil sie die Zeichen sahen, die er an den Kranken tat.
3 And Jesus went up into the mountain, and there sat with his disciples:
Jesus ging dann auf die Berghöhe und blieb dort mit seinen Jüngern.
4 but the passover, the feast of the Jews, was near.
Das jüdische Passahfest aber stand nahe bevor.
5 Jesus then, lifting up his eyes and seeing that a great crowd is coming to him, says to Philip, Whence shall we buy loaves that these may eat?
Als nun Jesus seine Augen aufhob und eine große Volksmenge zu sich kommen sah, sprach er zu Philippus: "Woher sollen wir Brot kaufen, damit diese alle zu essen haben?"
6 But this he said trying him, for he knew what he was going to do.
- So fragte er aber nur, um ihn zu prüfen; denn er selbst wußte schon, was er tun wollte. —
7 Philip answered him, Loaves for two hundred denarii are not sufficient for them, that each may have some little [portion].
Philippus antwortete ihm: "Für zweihundert Silberlinge Brot wäre nicht genug für sie; da würde jeder nur ein kleines Stück bekommen."
8 One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, says to him,
Einer seiner Jünger, Andreas, der Bruder des Simon Petrus, sprach zu ihm:
9 There is a little boy here who has five barley loaves and two small fishes; but this, what is it for so many?
"Hier ist ein Knabe, der hat fünf Gerstenbrote und zwei Fische. Doch was ist das für so viele?"
10 [And] Jesus said, Make the men sit down. Now there was much grass in the place: the men therefore sat down, in number about five thousand.
Jesus aber gebot: "Laßt die Leute sich auf den Boden lagern!" Es war dort nämlich reicher Graswuchs. Da lagerten sich an Männern ungefähr fünftausend.
11 And Jesus took the loaves, and having given thanks, distributed [them] to those that were set down; and in like manner of the small fishes as much as they would.
Nun nahm Jesus die Brote, sprach das Dankgebet und ließ sie den Gelagerten austeilen. Ebenso verfuhr er mit den Fischen; und jeder nahm davon, soviel er wollte.
12 And when they had been filled, he says to his disciples, Gather together the fragments which are over and above, that nothing may be lost.
Als sie gesättigt waren, sprach er zu seinen Jüngern: "Sammelt die übriggebliebenen Brocken, damit nichts umkomme!"
13 They gathered [them] therefore together, and filled twelve hand-baskets full of fragments of the five barley loaves, which were over and above to those that had eaten.
Das taten sie und füllten von den fünf Gerstenbroten zwölf große Körbe mit Brocken, die beim Essen übriggeblieben waren.
14 The men therefore, having seen the sign which Jesus had done, said, This is truly the prophet which is coming into the world.
Als die Leute erfuhren, welches Zeichen er getan hatte, da sprachen sie: "Dies ist wahrhaftig der Prophet, der in die Welt kommen soll!"
15 Jesus therefore knowing that they were going to come and seize him, that they might make [him] king, departed again to the mountain himself alone.
Da aber Jesus merkte, daß sie kommen und ihn mit Gewalt wegführen wollten, um ihn zum König zu machen, zog er sich ganz allein aufs neue ins Gebirge zurück.
16 But when evening was come, his disciples went down to the sea,
Am späten Abend gingen seine Jünger an den See hinab.
17 and having gone on board ship, they went over the sea to Capernaum. And it had already become dark, and Jesus had not come to them,
Sie stiegen in ein Boot und machten sich auf die Fahrt nach Kapernaum, das am anderen Ufer des Sees lag. Es war schon dunkel geworden, und Jesus war noch immer nicht zu ihnen zurückgekehrt.
18 and the sea was agitated by a strong wind blowing.
Der See aber wurde durch einen starken Wind heftig aufgeregt.
19 Having rowed then about twenty-five or thirty stadia, they see Jesus walking on the sea and coming near the ship; and they were frightened.
Als sie nun etwa zweieinhalb bis drei Seemeilen gefahren waren, sahen sie, wie Jesus auf dem See wandelte und sich ihrem Boot näherte. Da erschraken sie.
20 But he says to them, It is I: be not afraid.
Er aber rief ihnen zu: "Ich bin's, fürchtet euch nicht!"
21 They were willing therefore to receive him into the ship; and immediately the ship was at the land to which they went.
Nun wollten sie ihn in das Boot aufnehmen. Da war das Boot mit einemmal am Land und zwar an der Stelle, wohin sie fahren wollten.
22 On the morrow the crowd which stood on the other side of the sea, having seen that there was no other little ship there except that into which his disciples had got, and that Jesus had not gone with his disciples into the ship, but [that] his disciples had gone away alone;
Tags darauf erfuhren die Leute, die am jenseitigen Ufer des Sees geblieben waren, es sei nur ein einziges Fahrzeug dagewesen, Jesus aber habe es nicht zugleich mit seinen Jüngern bestiegen, sondern seine Jünger seien allein abgefahren.
23 (but other little ships out of Tiberias came near to the place where they ate bread after the Lord had given thanks; )
Andere Boote kamen unterdes aus Tiberias; die landeten nahe bei der Stätte, wo die Leute nach dem Dankgebet des Herrn das Brot gegessen hatten.
24 when therefore the crowd saw that Jesus was not there, nor his disciples, they got into the ships, and came to Capernaum, seeking Jesus.
Da nun die Menge sah, daß weder Jesus noch seine Jünger dort waren, bestiegen sie auch die Boote und fuhren nach Kapernaum, um Jesus dort zu suchen.
25 And having found him the other side of the sea, they said to him, Rabbi, when art thou arrived here?
Als sie ihn hier auf der anderen Seite des Sees fanden, fragten sie ihn: "Meister, wann bist du hier angekommen?"
26 Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say to you, Ye seek me not because ye have seen signs, but because ye have eaten of the loaves and been filled.
Jesus antwortete ihnen: "Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch: Ihr sucht mich nicht deshalb auf, weil ihr Wunderzeichen gesehen, sondern weil ihr von den Broten gegessen habt und satt geworden seid.
27 Work not [for] the food which perishes, but [for] the food which abides unto life eternal, which the Son of man shall give to you; for him has the Father sealed, [even] God. (aiōnios g166)
Müht euch nicht um vergängliche Speise, sondern um die Speise, die bis ins ewige Leben vorhält und die der Menschensohn euch geben wird! Denn ihn hat Gott der Vater dazu beglaubigt." (aiōnios g166)
28 They said therefore to him, What should we do that we may work the works of God?
Da fragten sie ihn: "Was müssen wir denn tun, um die von Gott gewollten Werke zu verrichten?"
29 Jesus answered and said to them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he has sent.
Jesus antwortete ihnen: "Dies ist das von Gott gewollte Werk, daß ihr glauben sollt an den, den er gesandt hat."
30 They said therefore to him, What sign then doest thou that we may see and believe thee? what dost thou work?
Da fragten sie ihn: "Was für ein Zeichen tust du denn, damit wir's sehen und an dich gläubig werden? Wie weist du dich aus?
31 Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, as it is written, He gave them bread out of heaven to eat.
Unsere Väter haben in der Wüste das Manna gegessen, wie geschrieben steht: Er gab ihnen Himmelsbrot zu essen."
32 Jesus therefore said to them, Verily, verily, I say to you, [It is] not Moses that has given you the bread out of heaven; but my Father gives you the true bread out of heaven.
Jesus erwiderte ihnen: "Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch: Nicht Mose hat euch das Himmelsbrot gegeben, sondern mein Vater gibt euch das wahre Himmelsbrot.
33 For the bread of God is he who comes down out of heaven and gives life to the world.
Denn Gottes Brot kommt vom Himmel herab und gibt der Welt das Leben."
34 They said therefore to him, Lord, ever give to us this bread.
Da sprachen sie zu ihm: "Herr, gib uns stets solches Brot!"
35 [And] Jesus said to them, I am the bread of life: he that comes to me shall never hunger, and he that believes on me shall never thirst at any time.
Jesus entgegnete ihnen: "Ich bin das Brot des Lebens. Wer zu mir kommt, den wird nie hungern, und wer an mich glaubt, den wird niemals dürsten.
36 But I have said to you, that ye have also seen me and do not believe.
Aber ich habe euch schon gesagt: Obwohl ihr mich gesehen habt, glaubt ihr doch nicht.
37 All that the Father gives me shall come to me, and him that comes to me I will not at all cast out.
Alles, was mir der Vater gibt, das wird zu mir kommen; und wer zu mir kommt, den will ich nicht hinausstoßen.
38 For I am come down from heaven, not that I should do my will, but the will of him that has sent me.
Denn ich bin vom Himmel herabgekommen, nicht um zu tun, was mir beliebt, sondern um den Willen dessen auszuführen, der mich gesandt hat.
39 And this is the will of him that has sent me, that of all that he has given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up in the last day.
Das aber ist der Wille des, der mich gesandt, daß ich nichts verlorengehen lasse von allem, was er mir gegeben hat, sondern es am Jüngsten Tag auferwecke.
40 For this is the will of my Father, that every one who sees the Son, and believes on him, should have life eternal; and I will raise him up at the last day. (aiōnios g166)
Denn dies ist meines Vaters Wille, daß jeder, der auf den Sohn schaut und an ihn glaubt, das ewige Leben habe und ich ihn am Jüngsten Tag auferwecke." (aiōnios g166)
41 The Jews therefore murmured about him, because he said, I am the bread which has come down out of heaven.
Da murrten die Juden über ihn, weil er gesagt hatte: "Ich bin das Brot, das vom Himmel herabgekommen ist."
42 And they said, Is not this Jesus the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we have known? how then does he say, I am come down out of heaven?
Sie sprachen: "Ist dieser Mann nicht Josefs Sohn, dessen Vater und Mutter wir kennen? Wie kann er denn jetzt sagen: 'Ich bin vom Himmel herabgekommen'?"
43 Jesus therefore answered and said to them, Murmur not among yourselves.
Jesus antwortete ihnen: "Murrt nicht untereinander!
44 No one can come to me except the Father who has sent me draw him, and I will raise him up in the last day.
Niemand kann zu mir kommen, wenn ihn nicht zieht der Vater, der mich gesandt hat, und ich will ihn dann am Jüngsten Tag auferwecken.
45 It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every one that has heard from the Father [himself], and has learned [of him], comes to me;
In den Schriften der Propheten findet sich die Stelle: Sie werden alle von Gott unterwiesen sein. Wer auf des Vaters Worte hört und von ihm lernt, der kommt zu mir.
46 not that any one has seen the Father, except he who is of God, he has seen the Father.
Damit will ich nicht sagen, daß jemand den Vater gesehen hätte. Nur der eine, der von Gott gekommen ist, nur der hat den Vater gesehen.
Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch: Wer glaubt, der hat ewiges Leben. (aiōnios g166)
48 I am the bread of life.
Ich bin das Brot des Lebens.
49 Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness and died.
Eure Väter haben einst in der Wüste das Manna gegessen und sind trotzdem gestorben.
50 This is the bread which comes down out of heaven, that one may eat of it and not die.
Hier ist das Brot, das vom Himmel herabkommt, damit man davon esse und nicht sterbe.
51 I am the living bread which has come down out of heaven: if any one shall have eaten of this bread he shall live for ever; but the bread withal which I shall give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world. (aiōn g165)
Ich bin das lebendige Brot, das vom Himmel herabgekommen ist. Wer von diesem Brot ißt, wird ewig leben. Das Brot aber, das ich geben werde, ist mein Fleisch: dies Brot gereicht der Welt zum Leben." (aiōn g165)
52 The Jews therefore contended among themselves, saying, How can he give us this flesh to eat?
Da gerieten die Juden in Aufregung. "Wie", so fragten sie, "kann uns dieser Mann sein Fleisch zu essen geben?"
53 Jesus therefore said to them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Unless ye shall have eaten the flesh of the Son of man, and drunk his blood, ye have no life in yourselves.
Jesus antwortete: "Wahrlich, wahrlich, ich sage euch: Eßt ihr nicht das Fleisch des Menschensohnes und trinkt ihr nicht sein Blut, so habt ihr kein Leben in euch.
54 He that eats my flesh and drinks my blood has life eternal, and I will raise him up at the last day: (aiōnios g166)
Wer mein Fleisch ißt und mein Blut trinkt, der hat ewiges Leben, und den werde ich am Jüngsten Tag auferwecken. (aiōnios g166)
55 for my flesh is truly food and my blood is truly drink.
Denn mein Fleisch ist wirklich Speise, und mein Blut ist wirklich Trank.
56 He that eats my flesh and drinks my blood dwells in me and I in him.
Wer mein Fleisch ißt und mein Blut trinkt, der bleibt in mir, und ich bleibe in ihm.
57 As the living Father has sent me and I live on account of the Father, he also who eats me shall live also on account of me.
Wie mich der lebendige Vater gesandt hat und ich lebe, weil der Vater lebt, ebenso wird auch der, der mich ißt, leben, weil ich lebe.
58 This is the bread which has come down out of heaven. Not as the fathers ate and died: he that eats this bread shall live for ever. (aiōn g165)
So ist das Brot beschaffen, das vom Himmel herabgekommen ist. Dies Brot ist anders als das Manna, das eure Väter gegessen haben: sie sind trotzdem gestorben. Wer aber dies mein Brot ißt, der wird ewig leben." (aiōn g165)
59 These things he said in [the] synagogue, teaching in Capernaum.
Diese Worte sprach er, als er in dem Versammlungshaus zu Kapernaum lehrte.
60 Many therefore of his disciples having heard [it] said, This word is hard; who can hear it?
Viele nun von seinen Jüngern, die dies hörten, sagten: "Das ist eine unerträgliche Rede; wer kann die mit anhören?"
61 But Jesus, knowing in himself that his disciples murmur concerning this, said to them, Does this offend you?
Jesus merkte, daß seine Jünger mit seinen Worten unzufrieden waren, und er fragte sie: "Daran nehmt ihr Anstoß?
62 If then ye see the Son of man ascending up where he was before?
Was werdet ihr dann erst sagen, wenn ihr mit euern Augen seht, wie der Menschensohn dorthin emporsteigt, wo er einst gewesen ist?
63 It is the Spirit which quickens, the flesh profits nothing: the words which I have spoken unto you are spirit and are life.
Der Geist ist's, der lebendig macht. Das Fleisch hat keinen Wert. Die Worte, die ich zu euch geredet habe, sind Geist und Leben.
64 But there are some of you who do not believe. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and who would deliver him up.
Aber es gibt einige unter euch, die glauben nicht." — Denn Jesus wußte von Anfang an, wer nicht zum Glauben kommen und auch, wer ihn verraten würde. —
65 And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no one can come to me unless it be given to him from the Father.
Dann fuhr er fort: "Aus diesem Grund habe ich euch gesagt: Niemand kann zu mir kommen, wenn ihm der Vater nicht die Fähigkeit dazu verleiht."
66 From that [time] many of his disciples went away back and walked no more with him.
Dieser Rede wegen verließen ihn viele seiner Jünger und begleiteten ihn nicht mehr auf seinen Wanderungen.
67 Jesus therefore said to the twelve, Will ye also go away?
Da fragte Jesus die Zwölf: "Ihr wollt doch nicht auch weggehen?"
68 Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast words of life eternal; (aiōnios g166)
Simon Petrus antwortete ihm: "Herr, zu wem sollten wir gehen? Du hast Worte des ewigen Lebens; (aiōnios g166)
69 and we have believed and known that thou art the holy one of God.
und wir haben geglaubt und erkannt, daß du der Heilige Gottes bist."
70 Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you the twelve? and of you one is a devil.
Jesus erwiderte ihnen: "Habe ich nicht euch, die Zwölf, mir auserkoren? Und doch ist einer von euch ein Teufel!"
71 Now he spoke of Judas [the son] of Simon, Iscariote, for he [it was who] should deliver him up, being one of the twelve.
Damit meinte er den Judas, den Simons Sohn aus Kariot. Denn der sollte sein Verräter werden, und er war doch einer von den Zwölf.
