Job 39
1 Knowest thou the time when the wild goats of the rock bring forth? dost thou mark the calving of the hinds?
Sai tu il tempo che le camozze delle rocce figliano? Hai tu osservato quando le cerve partoriscono?
2 Dost thou number the months that they fulfil? and knowest thou the time when they bring forth?
Annoveri tu i mesi del termine del lor portato, E sai tu il tempo che devono figliare?
3 They bow themselves, they give birth to their young ones, they cast out their pains;
Elle si chinano, fanno scoppiar fuori il lor feto, Si alleviano delle lor doglie.
4 Their young ones become strong, they grow up in the open field, they go forth, and return not unto them.
I lor figli son gagliardi, crescono per le biade, Escono fuori, e non ritornano [più] a quelle.
5 Who hath sent out the wild ass free? and who hath loosed the bands of the onager,
Chi ne ha mandato libero l'asino salvatico, E chi ha sciolti i suoi legami?
6 Whose house I made the wilderness, and the salt plain his dwellings?
A cui io ho ordinato il deserto per casa; E per abitazioni, i luoghi salsugginosi.
7 He laugheth at the tumult of the city, and heareth not the shouts of the driver;
Egli si beffa dello strepito della città; Egli non ode gli schiamazzi del sollecitator delle opere.
8 The range of the mountains is his pasture, and he searcheth after every green thing.
I monti, ch'egli va spiando, [sono] il suo pasco; Ed egli va ricercando qualunque verdura.
9 Will the buffalo be willing to serve thee, or will he lodge by thy crib?
Il liocorno ti vorrà egli servire? Si riparerà egli presso alla tua mangiatoia?
10 Canst thou bind the buffalo with his cord in the furrow? or will he harrow the valleys after thee?
Legherai tu il liocorno con la sua fune, [per farlo arare] al solco? Erpicherà egli le valli dietro a te?
11 Wilt thou put confidence in him, because his strength is great? and wilt thou leave thy labour to him?
Ti fiderai tu in lui, perchè la sua forza [è] grande? E gli rimetterai tu il tuo lavoro?
12 Wilt thou trust him to bring home thy seed, and gather it into thy threshing-floor?
Ti fiderai tu in lui ch'egli ti renda la [ricolta della] tua sementa, E ch'egli te l'accolga nella tua aia?
13 The wing of the ostrich beats joyously — But is it the stork's pinion and plumage?
Le ale de' paoni son esse vaghe [per opera tua?] Od [ha da te] lo struzzolo le penne e la piuma?
14 For she leaveth her eggs to the earth, and warmeth them in the dust,
[Fai tu] ch'egli abbandoni le sue uova in su la terra, E che le lasci scaldare in su la polvere?
15 And forgetteth that the foot may crush them, or that the beast of the field may trample them.
E che dimentichi che il piè [d'alcuno] le schiaccerà, Ovvero che le fiere della campagna le calpesteranno?
16 She is hardened against her young ones, as though they were not hers; her labour is in vain, without her concern.
Egli è spietato inverso i suoi figli, come [se] non [fosser] suoi; Indarno è la sua fatica, [egli è] senza tema;
17 For God hath deprived her of wisdom, and hath not furnished her with understanding.
Perciocchè Iddio l'ha privo di senno, E non l'ha fatto partecipe d'intendimento.
18 What time she lasheth herself on high, she scorneth the horse and his rider.
Quando egli si solleva in alto, Egli si beffa del cavallo, e di colui che lo cavalca.
19 Hast thou given strength to the horse? hast thou clothed his neck with the quivering mane?
Hai tu data la forza al cavallo? Hai tu adorna la sua gola di fremito?
20 Dost thou make him to leap as a locust? His majestic snorting is terrible.
Lo spaventerai tu come una locusta? Il suo magnifico nitrire [è] spaventevole.
21 He paweth in the valley, and rejoiceth in [his] strength; he goeth forth to meet the armed host.
Egli raspa nella valle, si rallegra della [sua] forza, Esce ad incontrare le armi.
22 He laugheth at fear, and is not affrighted; neither turneth he back from before the sword.
Egli si beffa della paura, e non si spaventa, E non si volge indietro per la spada.
23 The quiver rattleth upon him, the glittering spear and the javelin.
Il turcasso, e la folgorante lancia, E lo spuntone gli risuonano addosso.
24 He swalloweth the ground with fierceness and rage, and cannot contain himself at the sound of the trumpet:
D'impazienza e di stizza [pare ch'egli voglia] trangugiar la terra; E non può credere che [sia] il suon della tromba.
25 At the noise of the trumpets he saith, Aha! and he smelleth the battle afar off, the thunder of the captains, and the shouting.
Come prima la tromba ha sonato, egli dice: Aha, Aha; Da lontano annasa la battaglia, Lo schiamazzo de' capitani; e le grida.
26 Doth the hawk fly by thine intelligence, [and] stretch his wings toward the south?
È per il tuo senno che lo sparviere vola? Che spiega le sue ali verso il mezzodì?
27 Doth the eagle mount up at thy command, and make his nest on high?
L'aquila si leva ella ad alto per lo tuo comandamento? E [fai tu] ch'ella faccia il suo nido in luoghi elevati?
28 He inhabiteth the rock and maketh his dwelling on the point of the cliff, and the fastness:
Ella dimora e si ripara nelle rupi, Nelle punte delle rocce, ed in luoghi inaccessibili.
29 From thence he spieth out the prey, his eyes look into the distance;
Di là ella spia il pasto, Gli occhi suoi mirano da lontano.
30 And his young ones suck up blood; and where the slain are, there is he.
I suoi aquilini ancora sorbiscono il sangue, E dove sono corpi morti, quivi ella si ritrova.
