Job 39
1 Knowest thou the time when the wild goats of the rock bring forth? dost thou mark the calving of the hinds?
Kennst du die Zeit, wo die Felsgemsen werfen, und überwachst du das Kreißen der Hirschkühe?
2 Dost thou number the months that they fulfil? and knowest thou the time when they bring forth?
Zählst du die Monde, während derer sie trächtig sind, und weißt du die Zeit, wann sie gebären?
3 They bow themselves, they give birth to their young ones, they cast out their pains;
Sie kauern nieder, lassen ihre Jungen zur Welt kommen, entledigen sich leicht ihrer Geburtsschmerzen.
4 Their young ones become strong, they grow up in the open field, they go forth, and return not unto them.
Ihre Jungen erstarken, werden im Freien groß; sie laufen davon und kehren nicht wieder zu ihnen zurück.
5 Who hath sent out the wild ass free? and who hath loosed the bands of the onager,
Wer hat den Wildesel frei laufen lassen und wer die Bande dieses Wildfangs gelöst,
6 Whose house I made the wilderness, and the salt plain his dwellings?
dem ich die Steppe zur Heimat angewiesen habe und zur Wohnung die Salzgegend?
7 He laugheth at the tumult of the city, and heareth not the shouts of the driver;
Er lacht des Gewühls der Stadt, den lauten Zuruf des Treibers hört er nicht.
8 The range of the mountains is his pasture, and he searcheth after every green thing.
Was er auf den Bergen erspäht, ist seine Weide, und jedem grünen Halme spürt er nach.
9 Will the buffalo be willing to serve thee, or will he lodge by thy crib?
Wird der Büffel Lust haben, dir zu dienen oder nachts an deiner Krippe zu lagern?
10 Canst thou bind the buffalo with his cord in the furrow? or will he harrow the valleys after thee?
Kannst du den Büffel mit seinem Leitseil an die Furche binden, oder wird er über Talgründe die Egge hinter dir herziehen?
11 Wilt thou put confidence in him, because his strength is great? and wilt thou leave thy labour to him?
Darfst du ihm trauen, weil er große Kraft besitzt, und ihm deinen Ernteertrag überlassen?
12 Wilt thou trust him to bring home thy seed, and gather it into thy threshing-floor?
Darfst du ihm zutrauen, daß er deine Saat einbringen und sie auf deiner Tenne zusammenfahren werde?
13 The wing of the ostrich beats joyously — But is it the stork's pinion and plumage?
Die Straußenhenne schwingt fröhlich ihre Flügel: sind es aber des (liebevollen) Storches Schwingen und Gefieder?
14 For she leaveth her eggs to the earth, and warmeth them in the dust,
Nein, sie vertraut ihre Eier der Erde an und läßt sie auf dem Sande warm werden;
15 And forgetteth that the foot may crush them, or that the beast of the field may trample them.
denn sie denkt nicht daran, daß ein Fuß sie dort zerdrücken und ein wildes Tier sie zertreten kann.
16 She is hardened against her young ones, as though they were not hers; her labour is in vain, without her concern.
Hart behandelt sie ihre Jungen, als gehörten sie ihr nicht; ob ihre Mühe vergeblich ist, das kümmert sie nicht;
17 For God hath deprived her of wisdom, and hath not furnished her with understanding.
denn Gott hat ihr große Klugheit versagt und ihr keinen Verstand zugeteilt.
18 What time she lasheth herself on high, she scorneth the horse and his rider.
Doch sobald sie hoch auffährt zum Laufen, verlacht sie das Roß und seinen Reiter.
19 Hast thou given strength to the horse? hast thou clothed his neck with the quivering mane?
Gibst du dem Roß die gewaltige Stärke? Bekleidest du seinen Hals mit der wallenden Mähne?
20 Dost thou make him to leap as a locust? His majestic snorting is terrible.
Machst du es springen wie die Heuschrecke? Sein stolzes Schnauben – wie erschreckend!
21 He paweth in the valley, and rejoiceth in [his] strength; he goeth forth to meet the armed host.
Es scharrt den Boden im Blachfeld und freut sich seiner Kraft, zieht der gewappneten Schar entgegen.
22 He laugheth at fear, and is not affrighted; neither turneth he back from before the sword.
Es lacht über Furcht und erschrickt nicht, macht nicht kehrt vor dem Schwert;
23 The quiver rattleth upon him, the glittering spear and the javelin.
auf ihm klirrt ja der Köcher, blitzen der Speer und der Kurzspieß.
24 He swalloweth the ground with fierceness and rage, and cannot contain himself at the sound of the trumpet:
Mit Ungestüm und laut stampfend sprengt es im Fluge dahin und läßt sich nicht halten, wenn die Posaune erschallt;
25 At the noise of the trumpets he saith, Aha! and he smelleth the battle afar off, the thunder of the captains, and the shouting.
bei jedem Trompetenstoß ruft es ›Hui!‹ und wittert den Kampf von fern, den Donnerruf der Heerführer und das Schlachtgetöse.
26 Doth the hawk fly by thine intelligence, [and] stretch his wings toward the south?
Hebt der Habicht dank deiner Einsicht die Schwingen, breitet seine Flügel aus nach dem Süden zu?
27 Doth the eagle mount up at thy command, and make his nest on high?
Oder schwebt der Adler auf dein Geheiß empor und baut sein Nest in der Höhe?
28 He inhabiteth the rock and maketh his dwelling on the point of the cliff, and the fastness:
Auf Felsen wohnt er und horstet auf Felszacken und Bergspitzen;
29 From thence he spieth out the prey, his eyes look into the distance;
von dort späht er nach Beute aus: in weite Ferne blicken seine Augen;
30 And his young ones suck up blood; and where the slain are, there is he.
und seine Jungen schon verschlingen gierig das Blut, und wo Erschlagene liegen, da ist auch er.«
