Job 38
1 And Jehovah answered Job out of the whirlwind and said,
Entonces el Señor respondió a Job desde el torbellino:
2 Who is this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge?
“¿Quién es el que cuestiona mi sabiduría hablando con tanta ignorancia?
3 Gird up now thy loins like a man; and I will demand of thee, and inform thou me.
Prepárate, y sé fuerte, porque voy a interrogarte y debes responderme:
4 Where wast thou when I founded the earth? Declare, if thou hast understanding.
“¿Dónde estabas cuando puse los cimientos de la tierra? Dime, si tienes ese conocimiento.
5 Who set the measures thereof — if thou knowest? or who stretched a line upon it?
¿Quién decidió sus dimensiones? ¿No lo sabes? ¿Quién extendió una línea de medición?
6 Whereupon were the foundations thereof sunken? or who laid its corner-stone,
¿Sobre qué se apoyan sus cimientos? ¿Quién puso su piedra angular,
7 When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?
cuando las estrellas de la mañana cantaron juntas y todos los ángeles gritaban de alegría.
8 And who shut up the sea with doors, when it burst forth, issuing out of the womb?
“Quien fijó los límites del mar cuando nació?
9 When I made the cloud its garment, and thick darkness a swaddling band for it;
¿Quién la vistió de nubes y la envolvió en un manto de profunda oscuridad?
10 When I cut out for it my boundary, and set bars and doors,
Yo establecí sus límites, marcando sus fronteras.
11 And said, Hitherto shalt thou come and no further, and here shall thy proud waves be stayed?
Le dije: ‘Puedes venir aquí, pero no más lejos. Aquí es donde se detienen tus orgullosas olas’.
12 Hast thou since thy days commanded the morning? hast thou caused the dawn to know its place,
“Durante tu vida, ¿has ordenado alguna vez que comience la mañana?
13 That it might take hold of the ends of the earth, and the wicked might be shaken out of it?
¿Has dicho alguna vez a la aurora dónde debe aparecer para que se apodere de los rincones de la tierra y sacuda a los malvados?
14 It is changed like the signet-clay; and [all things] stand forth as in a garment:
La tierra se cambia como la arcilla bajo un sello; sus rasgos destacan como una prenda arrugada.
15 And from the wicked their light is withholden, and the uplifted arm is broken.
La ‘luz’ de los malvados les es quitada; sus actos de violencia son detenidos.
16 Hast thou entered as far as the springs of the sea? and hast thou walked in the recesses of the deep?
“¿Has entrado en las fuentes del mar? ¿Has explorado sus profundidades ocultas?
17 Have the gates of death been revealed unto thee? and hast thou seen the gates of the shadow of death?
¿Te han mostrado dónde están las puertas de la muerte? ¿Has visto las puertas de las tinieblas?
18 Hath thine understanding compassed the breadths of the earth? Declare if thou knowest it all.
¿Sabes hasta dónde se extiende la tierra? ¡Dime si sabes todo esto!
19 Where is the way to where light dwelleth? and the darkness, where is its place,
¿En qué dirección vive la luz? ¿Dónde habitan las tinieblas?
20 That thou shouldest take it to its bound, and that thou shouldest know the paths to its house?
¿Puedes llevarlas a casa? ¿Conoces el camino hacia donde viven?
21 Thou knowest, for thou wast then born, and the number of thy days is great!
¡Claro que lo sabes, porque ya habías nacido entonces! ¡Has vivido tanto tiempo!
22 Hast thou entered into the storehouses of the snow, and hast thou seen the treasuries of the hail,
“¿Has estado donde se guarda la nieve? ¿Has visto dónde se guarda el granizo?
23 Which I have reserved for the time of distress, for the day of battle and war?
Los he guardado para el tiempo de la angustia, para el día de la guerra y de la batalla.
24 By what way is the light parted, [and] the east wind scattered upon the earth?
¿Conoces el camino hacia donde viene la luz, o hacia donde sopla el viento del este sobre la tierra?
25 Who hath divided a channel for the rain-flood, and a way for the thunder's flash;
¿Quién abre un canal para que fluya la lluvia? ¿Quién crea un camino para el rayo?
26 To cause it to rain on the earth, where no one is; on the wilderness wherein there is not a man;
“¿Quién lleva la lluvia a una tierra deshabitada, a un desierto donde no vive nadie,
27 To satisfy the desolate and waste [ground], and to cause the sprout of the grass to spring forth?
para regar un páramo reseco y hacer crecer la hierba verde?
28 Hath the rain a father? or who begetteth the drops of dew?
¿Tiene la lluvia un padre? ¿Quién fue el padre de las gotas de rocío?
29 Out of whose womb cometh the ice? and the hoary frost of heaven, who bringeth it forth?
¿Quién fue la madre del hielo? ¿Tiene madre la escarcha del aire?
30 When the waters lie hidden as in stone, and the face of the deep holdeth fast together.
El agua se convierte en hielo duro como una roca; su superficie se congela.
31 Canst thou fasten the bands of the Pleiades, or loosen the cords of Orion?
¿Puedes unir las estrellas de las Pléyades? ¿Puedes soltar el cinturón de la constelación de Orión?
32 Dost thou bring forth the constellations each in its season? or dost thou guide the Bear with her sons?
¿Puedes guiar a las estrellas de Mazarot en el momento adecuado? ¿Puedes dirigir la constelación de la Osa Mayor y sus otras estrellas?
33 Knowest thou the ordinances of the heavens? dost thou determine their rule over the earth?
¿Conoces las leyes de los cielos? ¿Puedes aplicarlas a la tierra?
34 Dost thou lift up thy voice to the clouds, that floods of waters may cover thee?
“¿Puedes gritarles a las nubes y ordenarles que derramen lluvia sobre ti?
35 Dost thou send forth lightnings that they may go, and say unto thee, Here we are?
¿Puedes enviar rayos y dirigirlos, para que te respondan diciendo: ‘Aquí estamos’?
36 Who hath put wisdom in the inward parts? or who hath given understanding to the mind?
¿Quién ha puesto la sabiduría dentro de la gente? ¿Quién ha dado entendimiento a la mente?
37 Who numbereth the clouds with wisdom? or who poureth out the bottles of the heavens,
¿Quién es tan inteligente como para contar las nubes? ¿Quién puede voltear los cántaros de agua del cielo sobre sus lados
38 When the dust runneth as into a molten mass, and the clods cleave fast together?
cuando el polvo se ha cocido en una masa sólida?
39 Dost thou hunt the prey for the lioness, and dost thou satisfy the appetite of the young lions,
“¿Puedes cazar una presa para el león? ¿Puedes alimentar a los cachorros de león
40 When they crouch in [their] dens, [and] abide in the thicket to lie in wait?
cuando se agazapan en sus guaridas y acechan en los arbustos?
41 Who provideth for the raven his food, when his young ones cry unto God, [and] they wander for lack of meat?
¿Quién proporciona alimento al cuervo cuando sus crías claman a Dios, débiles de hambre?”
