Job 33
1 Howbeit, Job, I pray thee, hear mine utterances, and hearken to all my words.
Ascolta dunque, Giobbe, i miei discorsi, ad ogni mia parola porgi l'orecchio.
2 Behold now, I have opened my mouth, my tongue speaketh in my palate,
Ecco, io apro la bocca, parla la mia lingua entro il mio palato.
3 My words shall be of the uprightness of my heart, and my lips shall utter knowledge purely.
Il mio cuore dirà sagge parole e le mie labbra parleranno chiaramente.
4 The Spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.
Lo spirito di Dio mi ha creato e il soffio dell'Onnipotente mi dà vita.
5 If thou canst, answer me; array [thy words] before me: take thy stand.
Se puoi, rispondimi, prepàrati davanti a me, stà pronto.
6 Behold, before God I am as thou; I also am formed out of the clay.
Ecco, io sono come te di fronte a Dio e anch'io sono stato tratto dal fango:
7 Behold, my terror shall not make thee afraid, nor my burden be heavy upon thee.
ecco, nulla hai da temere da me, né graverò su di te la mano.
8 Surely thou hast spoken in my hearing, and I have heard the voice of [thy] words: —
Non hai fatto che dire ai miei orecchi e ho ben udito il suono dei tuoi detti:
9 I am clean without transgression; I am pure, and there is no iniquity in me;
«Puro son io, senza peccato, io sono mondo, non ho colpa;
10 Lo, he findeth occasions of hostility against me, he counteth me for his enemy;
ma egli contro di me trova pretesti e mi stima suo nemico;
11 He putteth my feet in the stocks, he marketh all my paths.
pone in ceppi i miei piedi e spia tutti i miei passi!».
12 Behold, I will answer thee in this, thou art not right; for God is greater than man.
Ecco, in questo ti rispondo: non hai ragione. Dio è infatti più grande dell'uomo.
13 Why dost thou strive against him? for he giveth not account of any of his matters.
Perché ti lamenti di lui, se non risponde ad ogni tua parola?
14 For God speaketh once, and twice, — [and man] perceiveth it not —
Dio parla in un modo o in un altro, ma non si fa attenzione.
15 In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, in slumberings upon the bed;
Parla nel sogno, visione notturna, quando cade il sopore sugli uomini e si addormentano sul loro giaciglio;
16 Then he openeth men's ears, and sealeth their instruction,
apre allora l'orecchio degli uomini e con apparizioni li spaventa,
17 That he may withdraw man [from his] work, and hide pride from man.
per distogliere l'uomo dal male e tenerlo lontano dall'orgoglio,
18 He keepeth back his soul from the pit, and his life from passing away by the sword.
per preservarne l'anima dalla fossa e la sua vita dalla morte violenta.
19 He is chastened also with pain upon his bed, and with constant strife in his bones;
Lo corregge con il dolore nel suo letto e con la tortura continua delle ossa;
20 And his life abhorreth bread, and his soul dainty food;
quando il suo senso ha nausea del pane, il suo appetito del cibo squisito;
21 His flesh is consumed away from view, and his bones that were not seen stick out;
quando la sua carne si consuma a vista d'occhio e le ossa, che non si vedevano prima, spuntano fuori,
22 And his soul draweth near to the pit, and his life to the destroyers.
quando egli si avvicina alla fossa e la sua vita alla dimora dei morti.
23 If there be a messenger with him, an interpreter, one among a thousand, to shew unto man his duty;
Ma se vi è un angelo presso di lui, un protettore solo fra mille, per mostrare all'uomo il suo dovere,
24 Then he will be gracious unto him, and say, Deliver him from going down to the pit: I have found a ransom.
abbia pietà di lui e dica: «Scampalo dallo scender nella fossa, ho trovato il riscatto»,
25 His flesh shall be fresher than in childhood; he shall return to the days of his youth.
allora la sua carne sarà più fresca che in gioventù, tornerà ai giorni della sua adolescenza:
26 He shall pray unto God, and he will receive him with favour; and he shall see his face with shoutings, and he will render unto man his righteousness.
supplicherà Dio e questi gli userà benevolenza, gli mostrerà il suo volto in giubilo, e renderà all'uomo la sua giustizia.
27 He will sing before men, and say, I have sinned, and perverted what was right, and it hath not been requited to me;
Egli si rivolgerà agli uomini e dirà: «Avevo peccato e violato la giustizia, ma egli non mi ha punito per quel che meritavo;
28 He hath delivered my soul from going into the pit, and my life shall see the light.
mi ha scampato dalla fossa e la mia vita rivede la luce».
29 Lo, all these [things] worketh God twice, thrice, with man,
Ecco, tutto questo fa Dio, due volte, tre volte con l'uomo,
30 To bring back his soul from the pit, that he may be enlightened with the light of the living.
per sottrarre l'anima sua dalla fossa e illuminarla con la luce dei viventi.
31 Mark well, Job, hearken unto me; be silent, and I will speak.
Attendi, Giobbe, ascoltami, taci e io parlerò:
32 If thou hast anything to say, answer me; speak, for I desire to justify thee.
ma se hai qualcosa da dire, rispondimi, parla, perché vorrei darti ragione;
33 If not, hearken thou unto me; be silent, and I will teach thee wisdom.
se no, tu ascoltami e io ti insegnerò la sapienza.
