Job 31
1 I made a covenant with mine eyes; and how should I fix my regard upon a maid?
“Hice un pacto con mis ojos; ¿cómo debería entonces mirar con lujuria a una mujer joven?
2 For what would have been [my] portion of God from above, and what the heritage of the Almighty from on high?
Porque lo que es la porción de Dios en lo alto, y la herencia del Todopoderoso en las alturas?
3 Is not calamity for the unrighteous? and misfortune for the workers of iniquity?
¿No es una calamidad para los injustos, y el desastre a los obreros de la iniquidad?
4 Doth not he see my ways, and number all my steps?
No ve mis caminos, y contar todos mis pasos?
5 If I have walked with falsehood, and my foot hath hasted to deceit,
“Si he andado con falsedad, y mi pie se ha apresurado a engañar
6 (Let me be weighed in an even balance, and God will take knowledge of my blamelessness; )
(que me pesen en una balanza uniforme, para que Dios conozca mi integridad);
7 If my step have turned out of the way, and my heart followed mine eyes, and if any blot cleaveth to my hands;
si mi paso se ha desviado del camino, si mi corazón caminara tras mis ojos, si alguna mancha se ha pegado a mis manos,
8 Let me sow, and another eat; and let mine offspring be rooted out.
entonces déjame sembrar, y que otro coma. Sí, que el producto de mi campo sea desarraigado.
9 If my heart have been enticed unto a woman, so that I laid wait at my neighbour's door,
“Si mi corazón ha sido seducido por una mujer, y he esperado en la puerta de mi vecino,
10 Let my wife grind for another, and let others bow down upon her.
que muela para otro mi mujer, y otros se encorven sobre ella.
11 For this is an infamy; yea, it is an iniquity [to be judged by] the judges:
Porque eso sería un crimen atroz. Sí, sería una iniquidad ser castigado por los jueces,
12 For it is a fire that consumeth to destruction, and would root out all mine increase.
porque es un fuego que consume hasta la destrucción, y que me arrancaría de raíz todo mi aumento.
13 If I have despised the cause of my bondman or of my bondmaid, when they contended with me,
“Si he despreciado la causa de mi siervo o de mi sirvienta, cuando contendían conmigo,
14 What then should I do when God riseth up? and if he visited, what should I answer him?
¿Qué haré entonces cuando Dios se levante? Cuando me visite, ¿qué le responderé?
15 Did not he that made me in the womb make him? and did not One fashion us in the womb?
¿Acaso no lo hizo el que me hizo en el vientre? ¿No se nos formó en el vientre materno?
16 If I have withheld the poor from [their] desire, or caused the eyes of the widow to fail;
“Si he retenido a los pobres de su deseo, o han hecho fallar los ojos de la viuda,
17 Or have eaten my morsel alone, so that the fatherless ate not thereof,
o haber comido mi bocado solo, y el huérfano no ha comido de ella
18 (For from my youth he grew up with me as with a father, and I have guided the [widow] from my mother's womb; )
(no, desde mi juventud creció conmigo como con un padre, La he guiado desde el vientre de mi madre);
19 If I have seen any perishing for want of clothing, or any needy without covering;
si he visto a alguno perecer por falta de ropa, o que los necesitados no tenían cobertura;
20 If his loins have not blessed me, and if he were not warmed with the fleece of my lambs;
si su corazón no me ha bendecido, si no se ha calentado con el vellón de mi oveja;
21 If I have lifted up my hand against an orphan, because I saw my help in the gate:
si he levantado mi mano contra los huérfanos, porque vi mi ayuda en la puerta;
22 [Then] let my shoulder fall from the shoulder-blade, and mine arm be broken from the bone!
entonces dejé caer mi hombro desde el omóplato, y que mi brazo se rompa desde el hueso.
23 For calamity from God was a terror to me, and by reason of his excellency I was powerless.
Porque la calamidad de Dios es un terror para mí. Por su majestad, no puedo hacer nada.
24 If I have made gold my hope, or said to the fine gold, My confidence!
“Si he hecho del oro mi esperanza, y han dicho al oro fino: “Tú eres mi confianza”.
25 If I rejoiced because my wealth was great, and because my hand had gotten much;
Si me he alegrado porque mi riqueza era grande, y porque mi mano se había vuelto mucho;
26 If I beheld the sun when it shone, or the moon walking in brightness,
si he visto el sol cuando brillaba, o la luna moviéndose con esplendor,
27 And my heart have been secretly enticed, so that my mouth kissed my hand:
y mi corazón ha sido seducido en secreto, y mi mano lanzó un beso de mi boca;
28 This also would be an iniquity for the judge, for I should have denied the God who is above.
esto también sería una iniquidad que sería castigada por los jueces, porque habría negado al Dios que está arriba.
29 If I rejoiced at the destruction of him that hated me, and exulted when evil befell him;
“Si me he alegrado de la destrucción del que me odiaba, o me levanté cuando el mal lo encontró
30 (Neither have I suffered my mouth to sin by asking his life with a curse; )
(Ciertamente no he permitido que mi boca peque pidiendo su vida con una maldición);
31 If the men of my tent said not, Who shall find one that hath not been satisfied with his meat? —
si los hombres de mi tienda no han dicho, ¿Quién puede encontrar a alguien que no se haya saciado con su carne?
32 The stranger did not lodge without; I opened my doors to the pathway.
(el extranjero no ha acampado en la calle, pero he abierto mis puertas al viajero);
33 If I covered my transgressions as Adam, by hiding mine iniquity in my bosom,
si como Adán he cubierto mis transgresiones, ocultando mi iniquidad en mi corazón,
34 Because I feared the great multitude, and the contempt of families terrified me, so that I kept silence, and went not out of the door, ...
porque temía a la gran multitud, y el desprecio de las familias me aterrorizó, así que guardé silencio, y no salí de la puerta...
35 Oh that I had one to hear me! Behold my signature: let the Almighty answer me! And let mine opponent write an accusation!
¡ojalá tuviera uno que me escuchara! ¡He aquí mi firma! ¡Que el Todopoderoso me responda! ¡Que el acusador escriba mi acusación!
36 Would I not take it upon my shoulder? I would bind it on to me [as] a crown;
Seguramente lo llevaría al hombro, y lo ataría a mí como una corona.
37 I would declare unto him the number of my steps; as a prince would I come near to him.
Yo le declararía el número de mis pasos. Me acercaría a él como un príncipe.
38 If my land cry out against me, and its furrows weep together;
Si mi tierra grita contra mí, y sus surcos lloran juntos;
39 If I have eaten the fruits thereof without money, and have tormented to death the souls of its owners:
si he comido sus frutos sin dinero, o han hecho que sus propietarios pierdan la vida,
40 Let thistles grow instead of wheat, and tares instead of barley. The words of Job are ended.
deja que los cardoscrezcan en lugar del trigo, y stinkweed en lugar de cebada”. Las palabras de Job han terminado.
