Job 24
1 Why are not times treasured up with the Almighty? why do not they that know him see his days?
Les temps ne sont pas cachés au Tout-Puissant; mais ceux qui le connaissent ignorent ses jours.
2 They remove the landmarks; they violently take away the flocks and pasture them;
Les uns ont transporté des bornes, ravi des troupeaux, et les ont fait paître.
3 They drive away the ass of the fatherless, they take the widow's ox for a pledge;
Ils ont chassé l’âne des pupilles, et ils ont enlevé pour gage le bœuf de la veuve.
4 They turn the needy out of the way: the afflicted of the land all hide themselves.
Ils ont détruit la voie du pauvre, et ils ont pareillement opprimé les hommes doux de la terre,
5 Lo, [as] wild asses in the desert, they go forth to their work, seeking early for the prey: the wilderness [yieldeth] them food for [their] children.
Les autres, comme les onagres dans le désert, sortent pour leur ouvrage; veillant à leur proie, ils préparent du pain à leurs enfants.
6 They reap in the field the fodder thereof, and they gather the vintage of the wicked;
Ils moissonnent le champ qui n’est pas à eux; ils vendangent la vigne de celui qu’ils ont opprimé par la force.
7 They pass the night naked without clothing, and have no covering in the cold;
Ils renvoient des hommes tout nus, enlevant les vêtements à ceux qui n’ont pas de quoi se couvrir pendant le froid,
8 They are wet with the showers of the mountains, and for want of a shelter embrace the rock...
Que les pluies des montagnes inondent, et qui n’ayant pas de vêtement, se réfugient dans des rochers.
9 They pluck the fatherless from the breast, and take a pledge of the poor:
Ils ont usé de violence, pillant des orphelins; et le pauvre peuple, ils l’ont dépouillé.
10 These go naked without clothing, and, hungry, they bear the sheaf;
À ceux qui étaient nus et qui allaient sans vêtements, et à ceux qui avaient faim, ils ont pris des épis.
11 They press out oil within their walls, they tread their winepresses, and suffer thirst.
Ils ont fait la méridienne au milieu des tas de fruits de ceux qui, après avoir foulé des pressoirs, avaient soif.
12 Men groan from out of the city, and the soul of the wounded crieth out; and God imputeth not the impiety.
Dans les villes, ils ont fait gémir les hommes, et l’âme des blessés a crié, et Dieu ne souffre pas que ce mal passe impuni.
13 There are those that rebel against the light; they know not the ways thereof, nor abide in the paths thereof.
Ils ont été rebelles à la lumière; ils n’ont pas connu les voies de Dieu, et ils ne sont pas revenus par ses sentiers,
14 The murderer riseth with the light, killeth the afflicted and needy, and in the night is as a thief.
L’homicide se lève dès le grand matin, il tue l’indigent et le pauvre; et pendant la nuit, il sera comme un voleur.
15 And the eye of the adulterer waiteth for the twilight, saying, No eye shall see me; and he putteth a covering on [his] face.
L’œil d’un adultère épie l’obscurité, disant: Aucun œil ne me verra; et il couvrira son visage.
16 In the dark they dig through houses; by day they shut themselves in; they know not the light:
Il perce des maisons dans les ténèbres, comme ils en étaient convenus pendant le jour; et ils n’ont pas connu la lumière.
17 For the morning is to them all [as] the shadow of death; for they are familiar with the terrors of the shadow of death.
Si tout d’un coup apparaît l’aurore, ils croient que c’est l’ombre de la mort; et ainsi dans les ténèbres, ils marchent comme à la lumière.
18 He is swift on the face of the waters; their portion is cursed on the earth: he turneth not unto the way of the vineyards.
Il est plus léger que la face de l’eau; maudite soit sa part sur la terre, et qu’il ne marche point par le chemin des vignes.
Qu’il passe des eaux des neiges à une excessive chaleur, et que jusques aux enfers son péché le conduise. (Sheol h7585)
20 The womb forgetteth him; the worm feedeth sweetly on him: he shall be no more remembered; and unrighteousness is broken as a tree, —
Que la miséricorde l’oublie; que les vers soient ses délices; qu’il ne soit point dans le souvenir des hommes; mais qu’il soit brisé comme un arbre infructueux.
21 He that despoileth the barren that beareth not, and doeth not good to the widow:
Car il a nourri la femme stérile, qui n’enfante pas, et il n’a pas fait de bien à la veuve.
22 He draweth also the mighty with his power; he riseth up, and no [man] is sure of life.
il a abattu des hommes forts par sa puissance; et lorsqu’il sera ferme, il ne croira pas en sa vie.
23 [God] setteth him in safety, and he resteth thereon; but his eyes are upon their ways.
Dieu lui a donné lieu de faire pénitence, et lui en abuse pour s’enorgueillir; mais les yeux de Dieu sont sur ses voies.
24 They are exalted for a little, and are no more; they are laid low; like all [other] are they gathered, and are cut off as the tops of the ears of corn.
Ils se sont élevés pour un moment, et ils ne subsisteront pas; ils seront humiliés comme toutes choses, puis ils seront emportés, et brisés comme des sommités d’épis.
25 If it be not so now, who will make me a liar, and make my speech nothing worth?
Que s’il n’en est pas ainsi, qui peut me convaincre d’avoir menti, et mettre devant Dieu mes paroles?
