Job 21
1 And Job answered and said,
Job contestó:
2 Hear attentively my speech, and let this replace your consolations.
“Por favor, escuchen atentamente lo que digo; eso sería un consuelo que podrían darme.
3 Suffer me and I will speak; and after I have spoken, mock on!
Tengan paciencia conmigo; déjenme hablar. Después de que haya habladao, pueden seguir burlándose de mí.
4 As for me, is my complaint to a man? or wherefore should not my spirit be impatient?
¿Me estoy quejando de la gente? Por supuesto que no. ¿Por qué no debería estar impaciente?
5 Mark me, and be astonished, and lay the hand upon the mouth.
Mírenme. ¿No están horrorizados? Tápense la boca con la mano en señal de asombro.
6 Even when I think [thereon], I am affrighted, and trembling taketh hold of my flesh.
Cada vez que pienso en lo que me ha pasado me horrorizo y tiemblo de miedo.
7 Wherefore do the wicked live, grow old, yea, become mighty in power?
“¿Por qué siguen viviendo los malvados, que envejecen y son cada vez más poderosos?
8 Their seed is established with them in their sight, and their offspring before their eyes.
Sus hijos están con ellos; ven crecer a sus nietos.
9 Their houses are safe from fear, neither is the rod of God upon them.
Viven en sus casas con seguridad; no tienen miedo. Dios no usa su vara para golpearlos.
10 Their bull gendereth, and faileth not; their cow calveth, and casteth not her calf.
Sus toros siempre crían con éxito; sus vacas paren terneros y no abortan.
11 They send forth their little ones like a flock, and their children dance.
Sacan a jugar a sus pequeños como si fueran corderos; sus niños bailan alrededor.
12 They shout to the tambour and harp, and rejoice at the sound of the pipe.
Cantan acompañados de la pandereta y la lira; celebran con la música de la flauta.
Viven felices y bajan al sepulcro en paz. (Sheol h7585)
14 And they say unto God, Depart from us, for we desire not the knowledge of thy ways!
Sin embargo, le dicen a Dios: ‘¡Vete lejos! No queremos saber nada de ti.
15 What is the Almighty that we should serve him? and what are we profited if we pray unto him?
¿Quién se cree el Todopoderoso para que le sirvamos como esclavos? ¿Qué beneficio hay para nosotros si le oramos?’
16 Behold, their prosperity is not in their hand. The counsel of the wicked be far from me!
Esa gente cree que hace su propia fortuna, pero yo no acepto su forma de pensar.
17 How often is the lamp of the wicked put out, and cometh their calamity upon them? Doth he distribute sorrows [to them] in his anger?
“Cuántas veces se apaga la lámpara de los malvados? ¿Cuántas veces les sobreviene el desastre? ¿Cuántas veces castiga Dios a los impíos en su cólera?
18 Do they become as stubble before the wind, and as chaff that the storm carrieth away?
¿Son arrastrados como paja en el viento? ¿Viene un tornado y se los lleva?
19 God layeth up [the punishment of] his iniquity for his children; he rewardeth him, and he shall know [it]:
Algunos dicen: ‘Dios guarda el castigo de la gente para sus hijos’. Pero yo digo: ‘Dios debería castigar a esas personas para que aprendan de ello’.
20 His eyes shall see his destruction, and he shall drink of the fury of the Almighty.
Que ellos mismos vean su destrucción y beban profundamente de la ira de Dios.
21 For what pleasure should he have in his house after him, when the number of his months is cut off?
Porque no les importará lo que les ocurra a sus familias una vez que hayan muerto.
22 Can any teach God knowledge? And he it is that judgeth those that are high.
“¿Puede alguien enseñarle a Dios algo que no sepa ya, puesto que él es quien juzga incluso a los seres celestiales?
23 One dieth in his full strength, being wholly at ease and quiet;
Una persona muere con buena salud, totalmente cómoda y segura.
24 His sides are full of fat, and the marrow of his bones is moistened;
Su cuerpo está gordo por haber comido bien; sus huesos aún son fuertes.
25 And another dieth in bitterness of soul, and hath not tasted good:
Otro muere después de una vida miserable sin haber experimentado la felicidad.
26 Together they lie down in the dust, and the worms cover them.
Sin embargo, ambos son enterrados en el mismo polvo; son tratados de igual manera en la muerte, comidos por los gusanos.
27 Lo, I know your thoughts, and the devices ye wrongfully imagine against me.
“Sé lo que piensan y sus planes para hacerme mal.
28 For ye say, Where is the house of the noble? and where the tent of the dwellings of the wicked?
Pueden preguntarme: ‘¿Dónde está la casa del gran hombre? ¿Dónde está el lugar donde viven los malvados?’
29 Have ye not asked the wayfarers? and do ye not regard their tokens:
¿No le han preguntado a los viajeros? ¿No le prestan atención a lo que dicen?
30 That the wicked is reserved for the day of calamity? They are led forth to the day of wrath.
La gente malvada se salva en tiempos de desastre; es rescatada del día del juicio.
31 Who shall declare his way to his face? and who shall repay him what he hath done?
¿Quién cuestiona sus acciones? ¿Quién les paga por lo que han hecho?
32 Yet is he carried to the graves, and watch is kept over the tomb.
Cuando finalmente mueren y son llevados al cementerio, su tumba está custodiada. La tierra de la tumba los cubre suavemente.
33 The clods of the valley are sweet unto him; and every man followeth suit after him, as there were innumerable before him.
Todo el mundo asiste a sus funerales; una enorme procesión de gente viene a presentar sus últimos respetos.
34 How then comfort ye me in vain? Your answers remain perfidious.
¿Por qué tratan de consolarme con tonterías? Sus respuestas no son más que una sarta de mentiras!”
