< Job 17 >

1 My breath is corrupt, my days are extinct, the graves are mine.
“ʻOku ʻeho ʻeku mānava, kuo ʻosi hoku ngaahi ʻaho, ʻoku tali ʻae ngaahi luo kiate au.
2 Are there not mockers around me? and doth [not] mine eye abide in their provocation?
‌ʻIkai ʻoku ʻiate au ʻae kau manuki? Pea ʻikai ʻoku nofomaʻu ʻi hoku ʻao ʻenau ʻahiʻahi kovi?
3 Lay down now [a pledge], be thou surety for me with thyself: who is he that striketh hands with me?
“Ko eni, ke tuku hifo, ke ai haʻaku fakamoʻoni meiate koe; ko hai ia te ma tā nima mo au?
4 For thou hast hidden their heart from understanding; therefore thou wilt not exalt [them].
He kuo ke fufū honau loto mei he ʻilo: ko ia ʻe ʻikai ai te ke hakeakiʻi ʻakinautolu.
5 He that betrayeth friends for a prey — even the eyes of his children shall fail.
Ko ia ʻoku ne lea lapu ki hono kāinga, ʻe vaivai ʻae mata ʻo ʻene fānau ʻaʻana.
6 And he hath made me a proverb of the peoples; and I am become one to be spit on in the face.
“Kuo ne tuku au ko e taukaeʻanga ʻoe kakai; ka naʻaku tatau muʻa mo e meʻa faiva.
7 And mine eye is dim by reason of grief, and all my members are as a shadow.
Kuo nenefu hoku mata ko e meʻa ʻi he mamahi, pea ko e ata pe ʻa hoku kupuʻi sino kotoa pē.
8 Upright men [shall be] astonished at this, and the innocent shall be stirred up against the ungodly;
‌ʻE ofo ʻae kakai angatonu ʻi he meʻa ni, pea ko e taʻeangahala te ne ueʻi ia ki he mālualoi.
9 But the righteous shall hold on his way, and he that hath clean hands shall increase in strength.
‌ʻE fakakukafi foki ʻae māʻoniʻoni ʻi hono hala, pea ko ia ʻoku nima maʻa ʻe fakahoko ʻe ia ʻae mālohi ki he mālohi.
10 But as for you all, pray come on again; and I shall not find one wise man among you.
Ka ko kimoutolu kotoa pē, mou foki ʻo ʻalu: he ʻoku ʻikai te u faʻa ʻilo ha taha ʻoku poto ʻiate kimoutolu.
11 My days are past, my purposes are broken off, the cherished thoughts of my heart.
Kuo ʻosi hoku ngaahi ʻaho, kuo motuhi ʻeku ngaahi tuʻutuʻuni, ʻio, ʻaia naʻaku loto ki ai.
12 They change the night into day; the light [they imagine] near in presence of the darkness.
‌ʻOku nau liliu ʻae pō ko e ʻaho: ʻoku fuonounou ʻae maama ko e meʻa ʻi he fakapoʻuli.
13 If I wait, Sheol is my house; I spread my bed in the darkness: (Sheol h7585)
Kapau te u tatali, ko hoku fale ʻae faʻitoka pē: kuo ngaohi hoku mohenga ʻi he fakapoʻuli. (Sheol h7585)
14 I cry to the grave, Thou art my father! to the worm, My mother, and my sister!
Kuo u pehē ki he popo, ‘Ko ʻeku tamai koe:’ pea ki he kelemutu, ‘Ko ʻeku faʻē,’ mo ‘hoku tuofefine.’
15 And where is then my hope? yea, my hope, who shall see it?
Pea kofaʻā eni ʻa ʻeku ʻamanaki lelei? ʻIo, ko ʻeku ʻamanaki lelei, ko hai te ne mamata ki ai?
16 It shall go down to the bars of Sheol, when [our] rest shall be together in the dust. (Sheol h7585)
‌ʻE ʻalu hifo ia ki he ngaahi tāpuni ʻoe luo, ʻoka tau ka mālōlō fakataha ʻi he efu. (Sheol h7585)
