Job 15
1 And Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said,
Sitten teemanilainen Elifas lausui ja sanoi:
2 Should a wise man answer with windy knowledge, and fill his belly with the east wind,
"Vastaako viisas tuulta pieksämällä, täyttääkö hän rintansa itätuulella?
3 Reasoning with unprofitable talk, and with speeches which do no good?
Puolustautuuko hän puheella, joka ei auta, ja sanoilla, joista ei ole hyötyä?
4 Yea, thou makest piety of none effect, and restrainest meditation before God.
Itse jumalanpelonkin sinä teet tyhjäksi ja rikot hartauden Jumalaa rukoilevilta.
5 For thy mouth uttereth thine iniquity, and thou hast chosen the tongue of the crafty.
Sillä sinun pahuutesi panee sanat suuhusi, ja sinä valitset viekasten kielen.
6 Thine own mouth condemneth thee, and not I; and thy lips testify against thee.
Oma suusi julistaa sinut syylliseksi, enkä minä; omat huulesi todistavat sinua vastaan.
7 Art thou the first man that was born? and wast thou brought forth before the hills?
Sinäkö synnyit ihmisistä ensimmäisenä, luotiinko sinut ennenkuin kukkulat?
8 Hast thou listened in the secret council of God? And hast thou absorbed wisdom for thyself?
Oletko sinä kuulijana Jumalan neuvottelussa ja anastatko viisauden itsellesi?
9 What knowest thou that we know not? [what] understandest thou which is not in us?
Mitä sinä tiedät, jota me emme tietäisi? Mitä sinä ymmärrät, jota me emme tuntisi?
10 Both the greyheaded and the aged are with us, older than thy father.
Onpa meidänkin joukossamme harmaapää ja vanhus, isääsi iällisempi.
11 Are the consolations of God too small for thee? and the word gently spoken to thee?
Vähäksytkö Jumalan lohdutuksia ja sanaa, joka sinua piteli hellävaroin?
12 Why doth thy heart carry thee away? and why do thine eyes wink?
Miksi sydämesi tempaa sinut mukaansa, miksi pyörivät silmäsi,
13 That thou turnest thy spirit against God, and lettest words go out of thy mouth?
niin että käännät kiukkusi Jumalaa vastaan ja syydät suustasi sanoja?
14 What is man, that he should be pure? and he that is born of a woman, that he should be righteous?
Kuinka voisi ihminen olla puhdas, kuinka vaimosta syntynyt olla vanhurskas!
15 Behold, he putteth no trust in his holy ones, and the heavens are not pure in his sight:
Katso, pyhiinsäkään hän ei luota, eivät taivaatkaan ole puhtaat hänen silmissänsä,
16 How much less the abominable and corrupt, — man, that drinketh unrighteousness like water!
saati sitten ihminen, inhottava ja kelvoton, joka juo vääryyttä niinkuin vettä.
17 I will shew thee, listen to me; and what I have seen I will declare;
Minä julistan sinulle, kuule minua, minä kerron, mitä olen nähnyt,
18 Which wise men have told from their fathers, and have not hidden;
mitä viisaat ilmoittavat, salaamatta, mitä olivat isiltänsä saaneet,
19 Unto whom alone the earth was given, and no stranger passed among them.
niiltä, joille yksin maa oli annettuna ja joiden seassa ei muukalainen liikkunut:
20 All his days the wicked man is tormented, and numbered years are allotted to the violent.
'Jumalattomalla on tuska koko elämänsä ajan, ne vähät vuodet, jotka väkivaltaiselle on määrätty.
21 The sound of terrors is in his ears: in prosperity the destroyer cometh upon him.
Kauhun äänet kuuluvat hänen korvissansa, keskellä rauhaakin hänet yllättää hävittäjä.
22 He believeth not that he shall return out of darkness, and he is singled out for the sword.
Ei usko hän pääsevänsä pimeydestä, ja hän on miekalle määrätty.
23 He wandereth abroad for bread, — where may it be? He knoweth that the day of darkness is ready at his hand.
Hän harhailee leivän haussa: missä sitä on? Hän tuntee, että hänen vierellään on valmiina pimeyden päivä.
24 Distress and anguish make him afraid; they prevail against him, as a king ready for the battle.
Tuska ja ahdistus kauhistuttavat häntä, masentavat hänet niinkuin kuningas valmiina hyökkäykseen.
25 For he hath stretched out his hand against God, and strengthened himself against the Almighty:
Koska hän ojensi kätensä Jumalaa vastaan ja pöyhkeili Kaikkivaltiasta vastaan,
26 He runneth against him, with [outstretched] neck, with the thick bosses of his bucklers;
ryntäsi häntä vastaan niska jäykkänä, taajain kilvenkupurainsa suojassa;
27 For he hath covered his face with his fatness, and gathered fat upon [his] flanks.
koska hän kasvatti ihraa kasvoihinsa ja teki lanteensa lihaviksi,
28 And he dwelleth in desolate cities, in houses that no man inhabiteth, which are destined to become heaps.
asui hävitetyissä kaupungeissa, taloissa, joissa ei ollut lupa asua,
29 He shall not become rich, neither shall his substance continue, and their possessions shall not extend upon the earth.
jotka olivat määrätyt jäämään raunioiksi, sentähden hän ei rikastu, eikä hänen omaisuutensa ole pysyväistä, eikä hänen viljansa notkistu maata kohden.
30 He shall not depart out of darkness; the flame shall dry up his branches; and by the breath of his mouth shall he go away.
Ei hän pääse pimeydestä; tulen liekki kuivuttaa hänen vesansa, ja hän hukkuu hänen suunsa henkäyksestä.
31 Let him not trust in vanity: he is deceived, for vanity shall be his recompense;
Älköön hän turvatko turhuuteen-hän pettyy; sillä hänen voittonsa on oleva turhuus.
32 It shall be complete before his day, and his branch shall not be green.
Mitta täyttyy ennen aikojaan, eikä hänen lehvänsä vihannoi.
33 He shall shake off his unripe grapes as a vine, and shall cast his flower as an olive.
Hän on niinkuin viinipuu, joka pudottaa raakaleensa, niinkuin öljypuu, joka varistaa kukkansa.
34 For the family of the ungodly shall be barren, and fire shall consume the tents of bribery.
Sillä jumalattoman joukkio on hedelmätön, ja tuli kuluttaa lahjustenottajan majat.
35 They conceive mischief, and bring forth iniquity, and their belly prepareth deceit.
He kantavat tuhoa ja synnyttävät turmiota, ja heidän kohtunsa valmistaa petosta.'"
