Job 11
1 And Zophar the Naamathite answered and said,
Çophar de Naama prit la parole et dit:
2 Should not the multitude of words be answered? and should a man of much talk be justified?
Est-ce que ce flot de paroles n’appelle pas une réponse? Suffit-il d’être loquace pour avoir raison?
3 Should thy fictions make men hold their peace? and shouldest thou mock, and no one make [thee] ashamed?
Ton verbiage réduirait-il les gens au silence, et prodiguerais-tu l’ironie, sans que personne te confonde?
4 For thou sayest, My doctrine is pure, and I am clean in thine eyes.
Tu dis: "Pure est ma doctrine, je suis sans tache à tes yeux."
5 But oh that God would speak, and open his lips against thee;
Ah! Il serait à souhaiter que Dieu parlât, qu’il ouvrît ses lèvres pour te répondre!
6 And that he would shew thee the secrets of wisdom, how that they are the double of what is realised; and know that God passeth by [much] of thine iniquity!
Il te révélerait les mystères de la sagesse, car la vérité a de nombreux aspects; et tu reconnaîtrais que Dieu est loin de te compter toutes tes fautes.
7 Canst thou by searching find out God? canst thou find out the Almighty to perfection?
Prétends-tu pénétrer le secret insondable de Dieu, saisir la perfection du Tout-Puissant?
8 [It is as] the heights of heaven; what wilt thou do? deeper than Sheol; what canst thou know? (Sheol h7585)
Si elle a la hauteur des cieux, que peux-tu faire? Si elle dépasse la profondeur du Cheol, quelle connaissance en as-tu? (Sheol h7585)
9 The measure thereof is longer than the earth, and broader than the sea.
Elle est plus étendue en longueur que la terre, plus vaste que l’Océan!
10 If he pass by, and shut up, and call to judgment, who can hinder him?
Si Dieu s’avance, s’il enferme dans une geôle, s’il convoque une assemblée de justice, qui peut l’en détourner?
11 For he knoweth vain men, and seeth wickedness when [man] doth not consider it;
Car il connaît bien les gens pervers, il remarque l’iniquité sans même y regarder de près.
12 Yet a senseless man will make bold, though man be born [like] the foal of a wild ass.
Par là, l’homme au cerveau creux peut devenir intelligent et, cessant d’être un âne sauvage, naître à la dignité humaine.
13 If thou prepare thy heart and stretch out thy hands toward him,
Donc, si tu veux, toi, bien diriger ton cœur et étendre tes bras vers lui,
14 If thou put far away the iniquity which is in thy hand, and let not wrong dwell in thy tents;
si tu écartes le péché qui souille ta main, si tu bannis l’injustice de ta tente,
15 Surely then shalt thou lift up thy face without spot, and thou shalt be stedfast and shalt not fear:
aussitôt, tu pourras relever ton front exempt de tache; tu seras solide comma l’airain et n’auras rien à craindre.
16 For thou shalt forget misery; as waters that are passed away shalt thou remember it;
Bien plus, tu oublieras les maux passés, ou ne t’en souviendras que comme de l’onde écoulée.
17 And life shall arise brighter than noonday; though thou be enshrouded in darkness, thou shalt be as the morning,
Ton sort sera plus brillant que le soleil de midi, le sombre crépuscule luira pour toi comme le matin.
18 And thou shalt have confidence, because there shall be hope; and having searched about [thee], thou shalt take rest in safety.
Tu seras plein de confiance, car l’espoir renaîtra, tu feras ton inspection et te coucheras en sécurité.
19 Yea, thou shalt lie down, and none shall make thee afraid; and many shall seek thy favour.
Ton gîte ne sera troublé par personne, mais beaucoup rechercheront tes faveurs,
20 But the eyes of the wicked shall fail, and [all] refuge shall vanish from them, and their hope [shall be] the breathing out of life.
tandis que les yeux des méchants se consumeront, que tout refuge leur sera fermé, et que leur espoir, ce sera le dernier souffle d’un mourant.
