Jeremiah 42
1 And all the captains of the forces, and Johanan the son of Kareah, and Jezaniah the son of Hoshaiah, and all the people from the least even to the greatest,
Da nahten alle Heeresobersten mit Johanan, dem Sohne Kareahs, und Asarja, dem Sohne Hofajas, und allem Volke vom Kleinsten bis zum Größten
2 came near and said unto Jeremiah the prophet, Let, we beseech thee, our supplication come before thee, and pray for us unto Jehovah thy God, for all this remnant (for we are left a few of many, as thine eyes do behold us);
und sprachen zum Propheten Jeremia: Laß doch unsere Bitte bei dir Erhörung finden und bete für uns zu Jahwe, deinem Gotte, für diesen ganzen Überrest, - denn unser sind nur wenige von vielen übrig geblieben, wie du selbst hier an uns siehst, -
3 that Jehovah thy God may shew us the way wherein we should walk, and the thing that we should do.
und es möge uns Jahwe, dein Gott, den Weg kund thun, auf dem wir gehen, und die Weisung, die wir ausführen sollen!
4 And Jeremiah the prophet said unto them, I have heard; behold, I will pray unto Jehovah your God according to your words; and it shall come to pass [that] whatsoever thing Jehovah shall answer you, I will declare it unto you: I will keep nothing back from you.
Der Prophet Jeremia aber antwortete ihnen: Gut! So will ich denn zu Jahwe, eurem Gotte, beten, wie ihr wünscht, und den ganzen Bescheid, den Jahwe euch giebt, will ich euch kund thun; nicht ein Wort werde ich euch vorenthalten.
5 And they said to Jeremiah, Jehovah be a true and faithful witness amongst us, if we do not even according to all the word for which Jehovah thy God shall send thee to us.
Sie aber sprachen zu Jeremia: Jahwe soll wahrhaftiger und zuverlässiger Zeuge wider uns sein, wenn wir nicht genau der Weisung gemäß handeln werden, mit der Jahwe, dein Gott, dich zu uns sendet;
6 Whether it be good or whether it be evil, we will hearken unto the voice of Jehovah our God, to whom we send thee; that it may be well with us when we hearken unto the voice of Jehovah our God.
es sei Gutes oder Schlimmes, - auf das Gebot Jahwes, unseres Gottes, zu dem wir dich jetzt senden, wollen wir hören, damit es uns wohl ergehe, weil wir auf das Gebot Jahwes, unseres Gottes hören!
7 And it came to pass at the end of ten days, that the word of Jehovah came unto Jeremiah.
Nach Ablauf von zehn Tagen nun, da erging das Wort Jahwes an Jeremia,
8 And he called Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that were with him, and all the people from the least even unto the greatest,
und er berief Johanan, den Sohn Kareahs, samt allen Heeresobersten, die bei ihm waren, und allem Volke, vom Kleinsten bis zum Größten,
9 and said unto them, Thus saith Jehovah the God of Israel, to whom ye sent me to present your supplication before him:
und sprach zu ihnen: So spricht Jahwe, der Gott Israels, zu dem ihr mich gesandt habt, damit ich euer Gebet vor ihn brächte:
10 If ye will still abide in this land, then will I build you, and not overthrow [you], and I will plant you, and not pluck [you] up; for I repent me of the evil that I have done unto you.
Wenn ihr in diesem Lande bleiben werdet, so will ich euch aufbauen und nicht wieder einreißen und euch einpflanzen und nicht wieder ausreißen; denn ich habe genug an dem Unheil, das ich euch angethan habe.
11 Be not afraid of the king of Babylon, of whom ye are afraid: be not afraid of him, saith Jehovah; for I will be with you to save you, and to deliver you from his hand.
Ihr braucht euch nicht vor dem Könige von Babel zu fürchten, vor dem ihr nun in Furcht seid, - ihr braucht euch nicht vor ihm zu fürchten, ist der Spruch Jahwes; denn ich bin mit euch, euch zu helfen und euch aus seinen Händen zu erretten.
12 And I will grant mercies to you, that he may have mercy upon you, and cause you to return to your own land.
Ich will euch bei ihm Erbarmen finden lassen, daß er sich euer erbarmt und euch auf euren Grund und Boden zurückkehren läßt.
13 But if ye say, We will not dwell in this land; so as not to hearken unto the voice of Jehovah your God,
Falls ihr aber denkt: Wir wollen nicht in diesem Lande bleiben! indem ihr auf das Gebot Jahwes, eures Gottes, nicht hört,
14 saying, No; but we will go into the land of Egypt, where we shall see no war, nor hear the sound of the trumpet, nor have hunger for bread; and there will we dwell;
vielmehr sprecht: Nein! sondern nach Ägypten wollen wir ziehen, daß wir nicht Krieg erleben und Trompetenschall hören und nach Brot hungern müssen, und dort wollen wir bleiben! -
15 — and now, therefore, hear the word of Jehovah, ye remnant of Judah: thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel: If ye really set your faces to enter into Egypt, and go to sojourn there,
nun denn, so hört das Wort Jahwes, ihr von Juda Übriggebliebenen: So spricht Jahwe der Heerscharen, der Gott Israels: Wenn ihr wirklich Miene macht, nach Ägypten zu ziehen, und hinzieht, um dort als Fremdlinge zu weilen,
16 then it shall come to pass, that the sword which ye fear shall overtake you there in the land of Egypt, and the famine, whereof ye are afraid, shall follow hard after you there in Egypt; and there ye shall die.
so soll das Schwert, vor dem ihr euch jetzt fürchtet, euch dort erreichen in Ägypten, und der Hunger, vor dem euch jetzt bangt, wird euch dorthin auf den Fersen folgen nach Ägypten, und dort sollt ihr umkommen.
17 And it shall be that all the men that have set their faces to go into Egypt to sojourn there shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence; and none of them shall remain or escape from the evil that I will bring upon them.
Und alle Männer, die Miene machen, nach Ägypten zu ziehen, um dort als Fremdlinge zu weilen, sollen durch das Schwert, den Hunger und die Pest umkommen, und keinem von ihnen soll's gelingen, vor dem Unheil, das ich über sie kommen lassen will, zu entfliehen und sich zu retten.
18 For thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel: As mine anger and my fury have been poured forth upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so shall my fury be poured forth upon you, when ye shall enter into Egypt; and ye shall be an execration, and an astonishment, and a curse, and a reproach, and ye shall see this place no more.
Denn so spricht Jahwe der Heerscharen, der Gott Israels: Gleichwie sich mein Zorn und mein Grimm über die Bewohner Jerusalems ergossen hat, also soll sich mein Grimm über euch ergießen, wenn ihr nach Ägypten zieht, und ihr sollt zu einem Gegenstande der Verwünschung und des Entsetzens, des Fluchs und der Beschimpfung werden und diese Gegend nicht wiedersehen!
19 Jehovah hath said concerning you, the remnant of Judah, Go ye not into Egypt. Know certainly that I have admonished you this day.
So hat euch nun, ihr von Juda Übriggebliebenen, Jahwe geboten: Ihr sollt nicht nach Ägypten ziehen! Merkt euch wohl, daß ich euch heute verwarnt habe;
20 For ye deceived yourselves in your own souls, when ye sent me unto Jehovah your God, saying, Pray for us unto Jehovah our God; and according to all that Jehovah our God shall say, so declare unto us, and we will do it.
denn ihr betrogt euch selbst damit, daß ihr mich zu Jahwe, eurem Gotte sandtet, indem ihr spracht: Bete für uns zu Jahwe, unserem Gott, und gieb uns genau nach dem Bescheide, den Jahwe, unser Gott erteilen wird, Kunde, damit wir darnach handeln!
21 And I have this day declared [it] to you; but ye have not obeyed the voice of Jehovah your God, nor anything for which he hath sent me unto you.
Ich habe ihn euch nun heute kundgethan, aber ihr habt auf das Gebot Jahwes, eures Gottes, nicht gehört und zwar in Bezug auf alles das, womit er mich an euch gesandt hat.
22 And now know certainly that ye shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence, in the place whither ye desire to go to sojourn.
Und nun - so merkt euch wohl, daß ihr durch das Schwert, den Hunger und die Pest umkommen werdet an dem Orte, wohin es euch gefällt zu ziehen, um dort als Fremdlinge zu weilen.
