Jeremiah 34
1 The word that came to Jeremiah from Jehovah, when Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and all his army, and all the kingdoms of the earth under his dominion, and all the peoples, fought against Jerusalem and against all the cities thereof, saying,
Palabra de Yahvé que fue dirigida a Jeremías, cuando Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, y todo su ejército, y todos los reinos de la tierra sometidos a su dominio, y todos los pueblos, hacían guerra contra Jerusalén y contra todas sus ciudades.
2 Thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel: Go and speak to Zedekiah king of Judah, and tell him, Thus saith Jehovah: Behold, I give this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall burn it with fire.
“Así dice Yahvé, el Dios de Israel: Ve y habla a Sedecías, rey de Judá, y dile: Esto declara Yahvé: He aquí que voy a entregar esta ciudad en poder del rey de Babilonia, el cual le pegará fuego.
3 And thou shalt not escape out of his hand, but shalt certainly be taken, and given into his hand; and thine eyes shall behold the eyes of the king of Babylon, and his mouth shall speak with thy mouth, and thou shalt go to Babylon.
Y tú no escaparás de sus manos, sino que infaliblemente serás tomado preso y entregado en su mano; y tus ojos verán los ojos del rey de Babilonia, y él te hablará boca a boca. A Babilonia irás.
4 Only, hear the word of Jehovah, O Zedekiah king of Judah. Thus saith Jehovah as to thee: Thou shalt not die by the sword;
Pero escucha la palabra de Yahvé, oh Sedecías, rey de Judá. Así dice Yahvé respecto de ti: No morirás a espada;
5 thou shalt die in peace, and with the burnings of thy fathers, the former kings that were before thee, so shall they burn for thee; and they will lament for thee, Ah, lord! for I have spoken the word, saith Jehovah.
morirás en paz; y como se quemaron perfumes en honor de tus padres, los reyes anteriores que te precedieron, así los quemarán para ti, y te harán lamentaciones, diciendo: «¡Ay, señor!» Porque Yo he decretado esto”, dice Yahvé.
6 And the prophet Jeremiah spoke all these words unto Zedekiah king of Judah, in Jerusalem.
El profeta Jeremías dijo todas estas palabras a Sedecías, rey de Judá, en Jerusalén.
7 And the king of Babylon's army fought against Jerusalem, and against all the cities of Judah that were left, against Lachish, and against Azekah; for these were amongst the cities of Judah, the fenced cities that were left.
Entretanto el ejército del rey de Babilonia atacaba a Jerusalén y todas las ciudades de Judá que habían quedado: a Laquís y a Asecá; porque de las ciudades fortificadas de Judá habían quedado solamente estas.
8 The word that came unto Jeremiah from Jehovah, after that king Zedekiah had made a covenant with all the people that were at Jerusalem, to proclaim liberty unto them:
Palabra de Yahvé que recibió Jeremías después que el rey Sedecías hizo un pacto con todo el pueblo que había en Jerusalén, proclamando entre ellos libertad,
9 that every man should let his bondman, and every man his bondmaid, the Hebrew and the Hebrewess, go free, that none should exact service of them, [that is, ] of a Jew his brother.
de tal manera que cada uno dejara ir libre a su esclavo hebreo y a su esclava hebrea, sin que nadie retuviera como esclavo a un judío, hermano suyo.
10 And all the princes and all the people that had entered into the covenant obeyed, every man letting his bondman and every man his bondmaid go free, that none should exact service of them any more: they obeyed, and let [them] go.
En efecto, todos los príncipes y todo el pueblo, que habían aceptado el pacto de dejar ir libre cada uno a su esclavo y a su esclava, consintieron en no retenerlos más como esclavos. Obedecieron, pues, y los dejaron ir.
11 But afterwards they turned, and caused the bondmen and the bondmaids whom they had let go free, to return, and brought them into subjection for bondmen and for bondmaids.
Pero después se arrepintieron y reclamaron de nuevo a los esclavos y a las esclavas que habían emancipado y los redujeron (otra vez) a servidumbre como esclavos y esclavas.
12 And the word of Jehovah came to Jeremiah from Jehovah, saying,
Entonces llegó a Jeremías esta palabra de Yahvé:
13 Thus saith Jehovah the God of Israel: I made a covenant with your fathers in the day that I brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage, saying,
“Así dice Yahvé; el Dios de Israel: Yo hice un pacto con vuestros padres el día que los saqué de la tierra de Egipto, de la casa de la servidumbre, y dije:
14 At the end of seven years ye shall let go every man his brother, a Hebrew, who hath sold himself unto thee; when he hath served thee six years, thou shalt let him go free from thee. But your fathers hearkened not unto me, neither inclined their ear.
Al cabo de siete años, cada uno de vosotros dará libertad a su hermano hebreo que le haya sido vendido; seis años te servirá, y luego le dejarás ir libre de tu casa. Mas vuestros padres no me obedecieron ni prestaron su oído.
15 And you, ye had this day turned, and had done right in my sight, in proclaiming liberty every man to his neighbour; and ye had made a covenant before me in the house which is called by my name:
Vosotros hoy os habéis convertido y habéis hecho lo recto a mis ojos, proclamando cada uno la libertad de su prójimo, y habéis hecho un pacto delante de Mí en la Casa sobre la cual ha sido invocado mi Nombre.
16 but ye have turned and profaned my name, and caused every man his bondman, and every man his bondmaid, whom ye had set at liberty at their pleasure, to return, and ye have brought them into subjection, to be unto you for bondmen and for bondmaids.
Pero os habéis vuelto atrás y habéis profanado mi nombre, reclamando cada cual a su esclavo y a su esclava que habíais dejado libres según su voluntad, y los habéis forzado a ser (otra vez) esclavos y esclavas.
17 Therefore thus saith Jehovah: Ye have not hearkened unto me, in proclaiming liberty, every man to his brother, and every man to his neighbour: behold, I proclaim a liberty for you, saith Jehovah, to the sword, to the pestilence, and to the famine; and I will give you over to be driven hither and thither among all the kingdoms of the earth.
Por eso, así dice Yahvé: Porque vosotros no me habéis escuchado y no habéis proclamado cada uno la libertad de su hermano y cada uno la libertad de su prójimo, he aquí que Yo anuncio a vosotros la libertad, dice Yahvé, (de elegir) entre la espada, la peste y el hambre, y haré de vosotros un objeto de horror entre todos los reinos de la tierra.
18 And I will give the men that have transgressed my covenant, who have not performed the words of the covenant which they had made before me, — the calf which they cut in twain, and passed between the parts thereof,
Y a los hombres que han violado mi pacto y no han cumplido las palabras del pacto que hicieron ante Mí, los haré semejantes al becerro que cortaron en dos partes para pasar por medio de ellas;
19 — the princes of Judah and the princes of Jerusalem, the eunuchs, and the priests, and all the people of the land, that passed between the parts of the calf;
(a saber) a los príncipes de Judá y a los príncipes de Jerusalén, a los eunucos, y a los sacerdotes, y a todo el pueblo del país, que pasaron por entre los trozos del becerro.
20 them will I give into the hand of their enemies and into the hand of them that seek their life; and their carcases shall be food for the fowl of the heavens and for the beasts of the earth.
Los entregaré en poder de sus enemigos, y en poder de los que atentan contra su vida; y sus cadáveres servirán de pasto a las aves del cielo y a las bestias de la tierra.
21 And Zedekiah king of Judah and his princes will I give into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of them that seek their life, and into the hand of the king of Babylon's army, which are gone up from you.
También a Sedecías, rey de Judá, y a sus príncipes los entregaré en poder de sus enemigos, en poder de los que quieren quitarles la vida, en poder del ejército del rey de Babilonia, que se ha retirado de vosotros.
22 Behold, I command, saith Jehovah, and I will cause them to return to this city; and they shall fight against it, and take it, and burn it with fire; and I will make the cities of Judah a desolation, without inhabitant.
He aquí que doy orden, dice Yahvé, y los volveré a traer contra esta ciudad; la combatirán, la tomarán y la entregarán a las llamas; y de las ciudades de Judá haré un desierto sin habitantes.
