Jeremiah 3
1 They say, If a man put away his wife, and she go from him, and become another man's, shall he return unto her again? Would not that land be utterly polluted? But thou hast committed fornication with many lovers; yet return to me, saith Jehovah.
Il dit: Quand un homme répudie sa femme, et qu'elle le quitte, et devient la femme d'un autre, peut-il revenir à elle? le pays ne serait-il pas profané? Et toi, tu t'es livrée à nombre d'amants, et tu reviendrais auprès de moi? dit l'Éternel.
2 Lift up thine eyes unto the heights and see, where hast thou not been lain with? In the ways hast thou sat for them, as an Arab in the wilderness; and thou hast polluted the land with thy fornications and with thy wickedness.
Lève les yeux vers les hauteurs, et vois! Où n'as-tu pas été impudique? Sur les chemins tu les attendais, telle que l'Arabe dans le désert, et tu souillas le pays par tes prostitutions et ta méchanceté.
3 And the showers have been withholden, and there hath been no latter rain; but thou hast a harlot's forehead, thou refusest to be ashamed.
Aussi les rosées furent-elles supprimées, et les dernières pluies ne vinrent-elles pas; mais tu as eu un front de prostituée, et tu as refusé de rougir.
4 Wilt thou not from this time cry unto me, My father, thou art the guide of my youth?
Maintenant, n'est-ce pas? tu me dis: « Mon père! tu fus l'ami de ma jeunesse. Sera-t-Il toujours irrité?
5 Will he keep [his anger] for ever? Will he preserve it perpetually? Behold, thou hast spoken and hast done evil things, and thou art [so] determined.
gardera-t-Il sa colère à jamais? » Voilà ce que tu dis, et tu commets le crime, et le consommes!
6 And Jehovah said unto me in the days of Josiah the king, Hast thou seen what backsliding Israel hath done? She hath gone up upon every high mountain and under every green tree, and there hath committed fornication.
Et l'Éternel me parla dans le temps du roi Josias: Vois-tu ce qu'a fait la rebelle Israël? Elle est allée sur toutes les hautes montagnes et sous tous les arbres verts, et elle s'est prostituée là.
7 And I said, After she hath done all these [things], she will return unto me; but she returned not. And her sister Judah, the treacherous, saw [it].
Et je disais: Après avoir fait toutes ces choses elle reviendra à moi; mais elle n'est point revenue. Et sa perfide sœur Juda l'a vu.
8 And I saw that when for all the causes wherein backsliding Israel committed adultery I had put her away, and given her a bill of divorce, yet the treacherous Judah, her sister, feared not, but went and committed fornication also.
Et quoique pour cette raison, à cause de l'adultère de la rebelle Israël, je l'eusse répudiée, lui donnant sa lettre de divorce, j'ai vu que cependant la perfide Juda, sa sœur, n'a point eu de crainte, et est allée se prostituer elle aussi.
9 And it came to pass through the lightness of her fornication that she polluted the land, and committed adultery with stones and with stocks.
Or cela était arrivé à cause de sa criante impudicité, car elle avait souillé le pays, et commis adultère avec la pierre et avec le bois.
10 And even for all this her treacherous sister Judah hath not returned unto me with her whole heart, but with falsehood, saith Jehovah.
Malgré tout cela, sa perfide sœur Juda n'est point revenue à moi de tout son cœur, mais avec hypocrisie, dit l'Éternel.
11 And Jehovah said unto me, Backsliding Israel hath shewn herself more just than treacherous Judah.
Et l'Éternel me dit: La rebelle Israël est innocente auprès de la perfide Juda.
12 Go and proclaim these words toward the north, and say, Return, thou backsliding Israel, saith Jehovah: I will not make my face dark upon you; for I am merciful, saith Jehovah; I will not keep [anger] for ever.
Va, et proclame ces paroles vers le nord et dis: Reviens, rebelle Israël! dit l'Éternel; je ne prendrai point pour vous un air sombre, car je suis clément, dit l'Éternel, et mon ressentiment n'est pas éternel.
13 Only acknowledge thine iniquity, that thou hast transgressed against Jehovah thy God, and hast turned thy ways hither and thither to the strangers under every green tree; and ye have not hearkened to my voice, saith Jehovah.
Seulement reconnais ta faute, car tu t'es détachée de l'Éternel, ton Dieu, et tu as fais errer tes pas vers les étrangers sous tous les arbres verts, et vous n'avez point obéi à ma voix, dit l'Éternel.
14 Return, backsliding children, saith Jehovah; for I am a husband unto you, and I will take you, one of a city, and two of a family, and I will bring you to Zion.
Revenez, enfants rebelles, dit l'Éternel; car je suis votre Souverain, et je veux vous reprendre, un par ville, et deux par famille, et vous ramener à Sion;
15 And I will give you shepherds according to my heart, and they shall feed you with knowledge and understanding.
et je vous donnerai des bergers selon mon cœur, qui vous paîtront avec sagesse et intelligence.
16 And it shall come to pass, when ye are multiplied in the land and become fruitful, in those days, saith Jehovah, they shall say no more, Ark of the covenant of Jehovah! neither shall it come to mind, nor shall they remember it, nor shall they visit [it]; neither shall it be done any more.
Et quand un jour vous serez nombreux et multipliés dans le pays, dit l'Éternel, alors on ne parlera plus de l'arche de l'alliance de l'Éternel, elle ne viendra dans l'esprit de personne, et on n'y pensera plus; et on ne la regrettera plus, et on n'en fera pas une autre.
17 At that time they shall call Jerusalem the throne of Jehovah; and all the nations shall be gathered unto it, to the name of Jehovah, to Jerusalem; and they shall no more walk after the stubbornness of their evil heart.
Dans ce temps-là on appellera Jérusalem le trône de l'Éternel, et tous les peuples s'y rallieront au nom de l'Éternel à Jérusalem, et ils ne marcheront plus d'après la dureté de leur cœur mauvais.
18 In those days the house of Judah shall walk with the house of Israel; and they shall come together out of the land of the north, to the land which I caused your fathers to inherit.
En ces jours, la maison de Juda cheminera avec la maison d'Israël, et elles viendront ensemble du pays du septentrion dans le pays dont je mis en possession vos pères.
19 And as for me, I said, How shall I put thee among the children, and give thee the pleasant land, the goodly inheritance of the hosts of the nations? And I said, Thou shalt call me, My father; and shalt not turn away from following me.
Je disais alors: Quel rang tu auras entre les fils! et je te donnerai un pays délicieux, le plus magnifique héritage parmi les armées des nations. Je disais aussi: Vous m'appellerez « Mon père, » et vous ne vous détacherez pas de moi.
20 Surely [as] a woman treacherously departeth from her companion, so have ye dealt treacherously with me, O house of Israel, saith Jehovah.
Mais, comme une femme est infidèle à son amant, ainsi vous me fûtes infidèles, maison d'Israël, dit l'Éternel.
21 A voice is heard upon the heights, the weeping supplications of the children of Israel; for they have perverted their way, they have forgotten Jehovah their God.
Sur les hauteurs une voix se fait entendre: ce sont les pleurs des enfants d'Israël gémissant d'avoir pris des voies détournées, d'avoir oublié l'Éternel, leur Dieu.
22 — Return, backsliding children; I will heal your backslidings. ...Behold, we come unto thee; for thou art Jehovah our God.
Revenez, enfants rebelles, je veux réparer vos égarements.
23 Truly in vain [is salvation looked for] from the hills, [and] the multitude of mountains; truly in Jehovah our God is the salvation of Israel.
« Voici, nous venons à Toi, car tu es l'Éternel notre Dieu. Oui, c'est une déception que l'abondance qui vient des collines, qui vient des montagnes; oui, c'est dans l'Éternel, dans notre Dieu, qu'est la ressource d'Israël.
24 But shame hath devoured the labour of our fathers from our youth; their flocks and their herds, their sons and their daughters.
Mais l'infamie a consumé les profits de nos pères dès notre jeunesse, leurs brebis et leurs bœufs, leurs fils et leurs filles.
25 We lie down in our shame, and our confusion covereth us; for we have sinned against Jehovah our God, we and our fathers, from our youth even unto this day, and have not hearkened to the voice of Jehovah our God.
Nous sommes gisants dans notre infamie, et notre ignominie nous recouvre, car nous avons péché contre l'Éternel notre Dieu, nous et nos pères, dès notre jeunesse jusques aujourd'hui et nous n'avons point obéi à la voix de l'Éternel, notre Dieu. »
