Jeremiah 2
1 And the word of Jehovah came to me, saying,
யெகோவாவின் வார்த்தை எனக்கு வந்தது:
2 Go and cry in the ears of Jerusalem, saying, Thus saith Jehovah: I remember for thee the kindness of thy youth, the love of thine espousals, when thou wentest after me in the wilderness, in a land not sown.
“நீ போய் எருசலேமிலுள்ளவர்கள் கேட்கத்தக்கதாய் இதை பிரசித்தப்படுத்து: “யெகோவா சொல்வது இதுவே: “‘உன் வாலிப காலத்தில் உனக்கிருந்த பக்தி எனக்கு ஞாபகத்தில் இருக்கிறது. நீ மணமகளாய் இருந்தபோது என்னில் நீ எவ்வளவாய் அன்பு வைத்தாய். பாலைவனத்திலும், விதைக்கப்படாத நிலத்திலும் நீ என்னைப் பின்பற்றினாய்.
3 Israel was holiness unto Jehovah, the first-fruits of his increase: all that devour him are guilty; evil shall come upon them, saith Jehovah.
இஸ்ரயேல் யெகோவாவுக்குப் பரிசுத்தமும், அவருடைய அறுவடையின் முதற்கனியுமாயிருந்தது. இஸ்ரயேலை விழுங்கினவர்கள் யாவரும் குற்றவாளிகள் ஆக்கப்பட்டார்கள், பெருந்துன்பமும் அவர்களை மேற்கொண்டது,’” என்று யெகோவா அறிவிக்கிறார்.
4 Hear the word of Jehovah, house of Jacob, and all the families of the house of Israel.
யாக்கோபின் வீட்டாரே! இஸ்ரயேல் வீட்டு வம்சங்களே! நீங்கள் எல்லோரும் யெகோவாவின் வார்த்தையைக் கேளுங்கள்.
5 Thus saith Jehovah: What injustice have your fathers found in me, that they are gone far from me, and have walked after vanity, and become vain?
யெகோவா சொல்வது இதுவே: “உங்கள் முற்பிதாக்கள் என்னில் என்ன குற்றத்தைக் கண்டார்கள், அவர்கள் என்னைவிட்டு ஏன் இவ்வளவு தூரமாய் போனார்கள்? அவர்கள் பயனற்ற விக்கிரகங்களைப் பின்பற்றி, தாங்களும் பயனற்றவர்களானார்கள்.
6 And they said not, Where is Jehovah, that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, that led us in the wilderness, in a land of deserts and of pits, in a land of drought and of the shadow of death, in a land that no one passeth through, and where no man dwelleth?
‘எகிப்திலிருந்து எங்களைக் கொண்டுவந்த யெகோவா எங்கே? பள்ளங்களும், பாலைவனங்களும் உள்ள நாடாகிய வறண்ட வனாந்திரத்தின் வழியாக எங்களை வழிநடத்தியவர் எங்கே? ஒருவரும் பிரயாணம் செய்யாததும், ஒருவரும் குடியிராததுமான வறட்சியும் இருளும் உள்ள நாட்டின் வழியாக வழிநடத்திய யெகோவா எங்கே?’ என்று அவர்கள் கேட்கவில்லையே?
7 And I brought you into a fruitful land, to eat the fruit thereof and the good thereof; and ye entered and defiled my land, and made my heritage an abomination.
நான் உங்களை ஒரு செழிப்பான நாட்டின் பலனையும், அதன் நிறைவான விளைச்சலையும் சாப்பிடும்படி அங்கு கொண்டுவந்தேன். ஆனால் நீங்களோ, வந்து என்னுடைய நாட்டைக் கறைப்படுத்தி, என் உரிமைச்சொத்தையும் அருவருப்பாக்கினீர்கள்.
8 The priests said not, Where is Jehovah? and they that handled the law knew me not; and the shepherds transgressed against me; and the prophets prophesied by Baal, and walked after [things that] do not profit.
‘யெகோவா எங்கே?’ என்று ஆசாரியர்கள் கேட்கவில்லை; வேதத்தை போதிக்கிறவர்கள் என்னை அறியவில்லை; தலைவர்கள் எனக்கெதிராக கலகம் செய்தார்கள். இறைவாக்கு உரைப்போர் பயனற்ற விக்கிரகங்களைப் பின்பற்றி, பாகாலின் பெயரால் இறைவாக்கு கூறினார்கள்.
9 Therefore will I yet plead with you, saith Jehovah, and with your children's children will I plead.
“ஆகையினால் திரும்பவும் உனக்கெதிராக குற்றம் சுமத்துகிறேன்” என்று யெகோவா அறிவிக்கிறார். மேலும் அவர், “உன் பிள்ளைகளின் பிள்ளைகளுக்கெதிராகவும் குற்றம் சுமத்துவேன்.
10 For pass over to the isles of Chittim, and see; and send unto Kedar, and consider diligently, and see if there have been such a thing.
சைப்பிரஸின் கரைக்குக் கடந்துபோய்ப் பாருங்கள். கேதாருக்கு ஆள் அனுப்பி உற்றுக் கவனியுங்கள். இதைப்போன்ற ஒரு காரியம் எப்பொழுதாவது நடந்திருந்ததோ என்று பாருங்கள்:
11 Hath a nation changed [its] gods? and they are no gods; — but my people have changed their glory for that which doth not profit.
எந்த நாடாவது தனது தெய்வங்களை மாற்றியதுண்டா? ஆனால் என் மக்களோ, அவர்களுடைய மகிமையாகிய எனக்குரிய இடத்தில் பயனற்ற விக்கிரகங்களை எனக்கு பதிலாக மாற்றிக்கொண்டார்கள். ஆயினும் அவை தெய்வங்கள் அல்லவே.
12 Be astonished, ye heavens, at this, and shudder; be amazed very much, saith Jehovah.
வானங்களே, இதைக்குறித்து வியப்படையுங்கள். பெரிதான பயங்கரத்தினால் நடுங்குங்கள்” என்று யெகோவா அறிவிக்கிறார்.
13 For my people have committed two evils: they have forsaken me, the fountain of living waters, to hew them out cisterns, broken cisterns that hold no water.
“என் மக்கள் இரண்டு பாவங்களைச் செய்திருக்கிறார்கள்: ஜீவத்தண்ணீர் ஊற்றாகிய என்னை கைவிட்டார்கள். தங்களுக்கென சொந்தமான தொட்டிகளை வெட்டிக்கொண்டார்கள். அவைகளோ தண்ணீர் நிற்காத வெடிப்புள்ள தொட்டிகள்.
14 Is Israel a bondman? Is he a home-born [slave]? Why is he become a spoil?
இஸ்ரயேல் ஒரு கூலியாளோ? அவன் பிறப்பிலே அடிமையாகவே பிறந்தானோ? பின் ஏன் அவன் இவ்வாறு கொள்ளைப்பொருளானான்?
15 The young lions roared against him, they gave forth their voice, and they made his land desolate: his cities are burned, without inhabitant.
சிங்கங்கள் கர்ஜித்தன; அவைகள் அவனைப் பார்த்து உறுமியது. இஸ்ரயேலுடைய நாட்டை அவை பாழாக்கிவிட்டன; அவனுடைய பட்டணங்கள் எரிக்கப்பட்டுக் கைவிடப்பட்டுள்ளன.
16 Even the children of Noph and Tahapanes have fed on the crown of thy head.
அத்துடன், தக்பானேஸ் மெம்பிஸ் பட்டணங்களின் மனிதர் உன்னுடைய தலையின் உச்சியையும் நொறுக்கினார்கள்.
17 Hast thou not procured this unto thyself, in that thou hast forsaken Jehovah thy God, at the time he was leading thee in the way?
உங்கள் இறைவனாகிய யெகோவா உங்களை வழிநடத்தியபோது, அவரை நீங்கள் கைவிட்டதினால் அல்லவா இவற்றை நீங்களே உங்கள்மேல் கொண்டுவந்தீர்கள்?
18 And now, what hast thou to do with the way of Egypt, to drink the waters of Shihor? And what hast thou to do with the way of Assyria, to drink the waters of the River?
இப்போது நைல் நதியின் தண்ணீரைக் குடிக்க ஏன் எகிப்திற்குப் போகிறீர்கள்? ஐபிராத்து நதியின் தண்ணீரைக் குடிக்க ஏன் அசீரியாவுக்குப் போகிறீர்கள்?
19 Thine own wickedness chastiseth thee, and thy backslidings reprove thee: know then and see that it is an evil thing and bitter that thou hast forsaken Jehovah thy God, and that my fear is not in thee, saith the Lord, Jehovah of hosts.
உன் கொடுமை உன்னைத் தண்டிக்கும்; உன் பின்மாற்றம் உன்னைக் கண்டிக்கும். உன் இறைவனாகிய யெகோவாவைக் கைவிட்டு, அவருக்குப் பயமின்றி நடப்பது எவ்வளவு தீமையும், கசப்புமான செயல் என்பதைக் கவனித்து உணர்ந்துகொள்” என்று யெகோவா, சேனைகளின் யெகோவா அறிவிக்கிறார்.
20 For of old thou hast broken thy yoke, [and] burst thy bands; and thou saidst, I will not serve. For upon every high hill, and under every green tree, thou bowest down, playing the harlot.
“வெகுகாலத்துக்கு முன்பே உன்னுடைய நுகத்தை முறித்து, உன் கட்டுகளை அறுத்துவிட்டேன். ‘நான் உமக்குப் பணிசெய்யமாட்டேன்’ என்று நீ சொன்னாய். உண்மையாகவே நீ ஒவ்வொரு உயர்ந்த குன்றின்மேலும், ஒவ்வொரு பச்சையான மரத்தின் கீழும், ஒரு வேசியாகக் கிடந்தாய்.
21 And I, — I had planted thee a noble vine, wholly a right seed; how then art thou turned into the degenerate shoots of a strange vine unto me?
நான் உன்னை திறமையானதும், தவறாது பலன் தருவதுமான சிறந்த திராட்சைக் கொடியாக நாட்டியிருந்தேனே. அப்படியிருக்க நீ எப்படி எனக்கு விரோதமாக ஒரு பயனற்ற காட்டுத் திராட்சையாக மாறினாய்?
22 For though thou wash thee with nitre, and take thee much potash, thine iniquity is marked before me, saith the Lord Jehovah.
நீ உன்னை உப்புச் சோடாவினால் கழுவி, அதிக சவுக்காரத்தை உபயோகித்தாலும், உன் குற்றத்தின் கறை நீங்காமல் என் முன்னே இருக்கிறது” என்று ஆண்டவராகிய யெகோவா அறிவிக்கிறார்.
23 How sayest thou, I am not defiled, I have not gone after the Baals? See thy way in the valley, acknowledge what thou hast done — a swift dromedary traversing her ways!
“‘நான் கறைப்படவில்லை; பாகால் தெய்வங்களின் பின்னே ஓடவில்லை’ என்று நீ எப்படிச் சொல்லலாம்? பள்ளத்தாக்கில் எவ்வாறு நடந்துகொண்டாய் என்று பார். நீ செய்தவற்றை எண்ணிப்பார்; நீ எல்லா திக்குகளிலும் ஓடித்திரிகிற பெண் ஒட்டகம்.
24 — a wild ass, used to the wilderness, that snuffeth up the wind in her desire! In her ardour, who shall turn her away? All they that seek her will not weary themselves; in her month they shall find her.
நீ காமவெறியால் காற்றை மோப்பம் பிடித்துத் திரிந்து, பாலைவனத்திற்குப் பழகிப்போன ஒரு காட்டுக் கழுதை. அது வேட்கைகொள்ளும் காலத்தில் அதை அடக்குகிறவன் யார்? அதற்குப்பின் செல்லும் எந்த ஆண் கழுதையும் களைப்படைய வேண்டியதில்லை; புணரும் காலத்தில் அவைகள் அதைக் கண்டுகொள்ளும்.
25 Withhold thy foot from being unshod, and thy throat from thirst. But thou saidst, There is no hope; no, for I love strangers, and after them will I go.
உன் பாதங்கள் வெறுமையாகி உன் தொண்டை வறளும்வரையும் அந்நிய தெய்வங்களைத் தேடி ஓடாதே என்றேன். ஆனால் நீயோ, ‘அது பிரயோசனமற்றது! நான் அந்நிய தெய்வங்களையே நேசிக்கிறேன். அவற்றிற்குப் பின்னாலேயே நான் போவேன்’ என்று சொன்னாய்.
26 As a thief is ashamed when he is found, so shall the house of Israel be ashamed — they, their kings, their princes, and their priests, and their prophets —
“ஒரு திருடன் தான் பிடிபடும்போது அவமானப்படுவதுபோல், இஸ்ரயேல் வீடும் அவமானப்பட்டது. அவர்களும், அவர்களுடைய அரசர்களும், அவர்களின் அதிகாரிகளும், ஆசாரியரும், இறைவாக்கு உரைப்போரும் அவமானப்பட்டிருக்கிறார்கள்.
27 saying to a stock, Thou art my father; and to a stone, Thou hast brought me forth; for they have turned the back unto me, and not the face; and in the time of their trouble they will say, Arise, and save us!
அவர்கள் ஒரு மரத்துண்டைப் பார்த்து, ‘நீ என் தந்தை’ என்றும், ஒரு கல்லைப் பார்த்து, ‘நீ என்னைப் பெற்றாய்’ என்றும் சொல்கிறார்கள். அவர்கள் தங்கள் முகங்களையல்ல, முதுகுகளையே எனக்கு திருப்பிக் காட்டினார்கள்; இப்படியிருந்தும் அவர்கள் ஆபத்திலிருக்கும்போது, ‘நீர் வந்து எங்களைக் காப்பாற்றும்’ என்று சொல்கிறார்கள்.
28 Where then are thy gods that thou hast made for thyself? let them arise, if they can save thee in the time of thy trouble: for as the number of thy cities, are thy gods, O Judah.
அப்படியெனில் நீங்கள் உங்களுக்கு உருவாக்கிக்கொண்ட தெய்வங்கள் எங்கே? நீங்கள் ஆபத்திலிருக்கும்போது அவை வந்து உங்களைக் காப்பாற்றட்டும்! ஏனெனில் யூதாவே, உன்னிடம் அநேக பட்டணங்கள் இருப்பதுபோல் அநேக தெய்வங்களும் உன்னிடத்தில் உண்டு.
29 Wherefore would ye contend with me? Ye all have transgressed against me, saith Jehovah.
“எனக்கெதிராக ஏன் குற்றம் சுமத்துகிறீர்கள்? நீங்கள் எல்லோரும் எனக்கெதிராக கலகம் செய்தீர்கள்” என்று யெகோவா அறிவிக்கிறார்.
30 In vain have I smitten your children: they received no correction. Your own sword hath devoured your prophets, like a destroying lion.
“உன் மக்களை நான் வீணாய் தண்டித்தேன்; நான் அவர்களை திருத்தியபோது அவர்கள் அதை ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளவில்லை. பசிகொண்ட ஒரு சிங்கத்தைப்போல உங்களுடைய வாளே உங்கள் இறைவாக்கினரை இரையாக்கி விழுங்கியது.
31 O generation, mark ye the word of Jehovah. Have I been a wilderness unto Israel, or a land of thick darkness? Wherefore say my people, We have dominion; we will come no more unto thee?
“இந்தச் சந்ததியிலுள்ள நீங்கள் யெகோவாவின் வார்த்தையைக் கவனியுங்கள்: “நான் இஸ்ரயேலுக்கு ஒரு பாலைவனமாய் இருந்தேனோ? அவர்களுக்கு நான் காரிருள் நிறைந்த நாடாக இருந்தேனோ? ‘நாங்கள் சுற்றித்திரிய சுதந்திரமுடையவர்கள்; இனி ஒருபோதும் உம்மிடம் வரமாட்டோம்’ என்று ஏன் என்னுடைய மக்கள் சொல்கிறார்கள்?
32 Doth a virgin forget her ornaments, a bride her attire? But my people have forgotten me days without number.
ஒரு இளம்பெண் தன் நகைகளை மறந்துவிடுவாளோ, ஒரு மணமகள் தனது திருமண ஆடைகளை மறந்துவிடுவாளோ? ஆயினும் என் மக்களோ எண்ணற்ற நாட்களாய் என்னை மறந்தார்கள்.
33 How dost thou trim thy way to seek love! Therefore hast thou also accustomed thy ways to wickedness.
நீ காதலர்களைத் தேடுவதில் எவ்வளவு கைதேர்ந்தவள்! பெண்களில் மிகவும் கேடானவர்களும் உன்னுடைய வழிகளிலிருந்து கற்றுக்கொள்ளலாம்.
34 Yea, in thy skirts is found the blood of the souls of the innocent poor, whom thou didst not encounter breaking in, but [it is found] upon all these.
உன் உடைகளிலே குற்றமற்ற ஏழைகளின் உயிர் இரத்தத்தை மனிதர் காண்கிறார்கள். இது, உன் வீட்டை அவர்கள் கன்னமிடும்போது சிந்தப்பட்ட இரத்தமல்ல. இப்படியெல்லாம் இருக்கும்போதும்,
35 And thou sayest, Indeed I am innocent; his anger will turn from me. Behold, I will enter into judgment with thee because thou sayest, I have not sinned.
நீ, ‘நான் குற்றமற்றவள்; அவரும் என்னுடன் கோபமாயிருக்கவில்லை’ என்று சொல்கிறாய். ஆனால், ‘நான் பாவம் செய்யவில்லை’ என்று நீ சொல்வதால் நான் உன்னை நியாயந்தீர்பேன்.
36 Why dost thou gad about so much, and change thy way? Thou shalt also be brought to shame by Egypt, as thou wast brought to shame by Assyria.
நீ உன் வழிகளை மாற்றிக்கொண்டு, அங்குமிங்குமாக ஏன் திரிகிறாய்? அசீரியாவினால் ஏமாற்றமடைந்ததுபோல, எகிப்தினாலும் ஏமாற்றமடைவாய்.
37 Thou shalt indeed go forth from her with thy hands upon thy head; for Jehovah hath rejected those thou confidest in, and thou shalt not prosper by them.
உன் தலையில் கைகளை வைத்துக்கொண்டு, அவ்விடத்தையும்விட்டுப் போவாய். ஏனெனில் நீ நம்பியிருக்கிறவர்களை யெகோவா புறக்கணித்துவிட்டார்; அவர்கள் உனக்கு ஒரு உதவியும் செய்யமாட்டார்கள்.
