< Jeremiah 14 >
1 The word of Jehovah that came to Jeremiah concerning the drought.
Ko e folofola ʻa Sihova, naʻe hoko kia Selemaia ʻaia ʻoku kau ki he honge,
2 Judah mourneth, and the gates thereof languish, they are black unto the ground; and the cry of Jerusalem goeth up.
“ʻOku mamahi ʻa Siuta, pea ʻoku vaivai hono ngaahi matapā; ʻoku nau ʻai ʻae tauangaʻa koeʻuhi ko e fonua; pea kuo ʻalu hake ʻae tangi ʻo Selūsalema.
3 And their nobles send their little ones for water: they come to the pits, they find no water; they return with their vessels empty; they are ashamed, they are confounded, and have covered their heads.
Naʻe fekau ʻe he houʻeiki ʻenau fānau iiki ki he vai: kuo nau hoko ki he ngaahi luo, ka ʻoku ʻikai ʻilo ai ha vai; kuo nau liliu mo ʻenau ngeʻesi ipu; naʻa nau mā ʻaupito mo puputuʻu, pea fakapulou honau ʻulu.
4 Because the ground is chapt, for there hath been no rain on the earth, the ploughmen are ashamed, they cover their heads.
Koeʻuhi naʻe māfaʻafaʻa ʻae kelekele, he naʻe ʻikai ha ʻuha ki he fonua, pea mā ʻae kau tangata keli, ʻonau fakapulou honau ʻulu.
5 For the hind also calveth in the field, and forsaketh [its young], because there is no grass.
ʻIo, naʻe fāʻeleʻi ʻae manu, pea liʻaki hono ʻuhiki ʻi he ngoue, koeʻuhi naʻe ʻikai ha mohuku.
6 And the wild asses stand on the heights, they snuff up the wind like jackals; their eyes fail, because there is no herbage.
Pea naʻe tuʻu ʻae fanga ʻasi hehengi ʻi he ngaahi potu māʻolunga, ʻo folo hifo ʻae matangi ʻo hangē ko e fanga talākoni; naʻe vaivai honau mata, koeʻuhi naʻe ʻikai ha mohuku.
7 Jehovah, though our iniquities testify against us, do thou act for thy name's sake; for our backslidings are many — we have sinned against thee.
ʻE Sihova, ‘Neongo kuo talatalaakiʻi ʻakimautolu ʻemau angahala, ke ke ngāue koe koeʻuhi ko ho huafa: he kuo lahi ʻemau fakaholomui; kuo mau fai kovi kiate koe.
8 Thou hope of Israel, its Saviour in the time of trouble, why wilt thou be as a stranger in the land, and as a traveller that turneth aside to stay a night?
ʻA koe ko e falalaʻanga ʻo ʻIsileli, ko hono Fakamoʻui ʻi he ʻaho ʻoe mamahi, ko e hā te ke tatau ai mo e muli ʻi he fonua, pea hangē ko e tangata fononga ʻoku afe atu ke nofo ʻi he pō pe taha?
9 Why wilt thou be as a man astonished, as a mighty man that cannot save? Yet thou, Jehovah, art in the midst of us, and we are called by thy name: leave us not.
Ko e hā ʻoku ke hangē ai ko e tangata ʻoku mohe maʻu, ʻo hangē ko e tangata mālohi ʻoku ʻikai faʻa fakamoʻui? Ka ko koe, ʻE Sihova, ʻoku ke ʻiate kimautolu, pea ʻoku ui ʻakimautolu ʻi ho huafa; ʻoua naʻa ke liʻaki ʻakimautolu.’”
10 Thus saith Jehovah to this people: Even so have they loved to wander, they have not refrained their feet; and Jehovah hath no delight in them: now will he remember their iniquity, and visit their sins.
ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova ki he kakai ni, “ʻOku pehē ʻenau fie ʻalu fano pe, naʻe ʻikai te nau taʻofi honau vaʻe, ko ia ʻoku ʻikai maʻu ʻakinautolu ʻe Sihova; te ne manatu eni ki heʻenau hia, pea ʻaʻahi ki heʻenau ngaahi angahala.”
11 And Jehovah said unto me, Pray not for this people for their good.
Pea naʻe pehē ʻe Sihova kiate au, “ʻOua naʻa hūfia ʻae kakai ni ke nau lelei.
12 When they fast, I will not hear their cry; and when they offer up burnt-offering and oblation, I will not accept them: for I will consume them by sword, and by famine, and by pestilence.
ʻE ʻikai te u fanongo ki heʻenau tangi ʻi heʻenau ʻaukai; pea ʻoka nau ka fai ʻae feilaulau tutu, pe ha feilaulau uite, ʻe ʻikai te u maʻu ʻakinautolu; ka te u fakaʻauha ʻaki ʻakinautolu ʻae heletā, pea mo e honge, pea mo e mahaki fakaʻauha.”
13 And I said, Alas, Lord Jehovah! Behold, the prophets say unto them, Ye shall not see the sword, neither shall ye have famine; for I will give you assured peace in this place.
Pea naʻaku toki pehē ʻeau. “ʻOiauē! ʻE ʻEiki Sihova! Vakai, ʻoku pehē ʻe he kau palōfita kiate kinautolu, ʻE ʻikai te mou mamata ki he heletā, pe ki he honge; ka te u foaki kiate kimoutolu ʻae fiemālie moʻoni ʻi he potu ni.”
14 And Jehovah said unto me, The prophets prophesy falsehood in my name; I have not sent them, neither have I commanded them, nor spoken unto them: they prophesy unto you a false vision, and divination, and a thing of nought, and the deceit of their heart.
Pea naʻe pehē ʻe Sihova kiate au, “ʻOku kikite loi ʻi hoku huafa ʻae kau palōfita: naʻe ʻikai te u fekau ʻakinautolu, pe tala kiate kinautolu, pea naʻe ʻikai te u lea kiate kinautolu: kuo nau lea ʻaki ʻae misi loi mo e kikite kākā, mo e meʻa vaʻinga, pea mo e kākā ʻo honau loto.
15 Therefore thus saith Jehovah concerning the prophets that prophesy in my name, and I sent them not, and who say, Sword and famine shall not be in this land: By sword and by famine shall those prophets be consumed;
Ko ia ʻoku pehē ai ʻe Sihova ki he kau palōfita ʻoku kikite ʻi hoku huafa, pea naʻe ʻikai te u fekau ʻakinautolu, ka ʻoku nau pehē, ʻE ʻikai hoko ʻae heletā mo e honge ki he fonua ni; ʻe fakaʻauha ʻae kau palōfita, ko ia ʻi he heletā pea mo e honge.
16 and the people to whom they prophesy shall be cast out in the streets of Jerusalem, because of the famine and the sword; and there shall be none to bury them, them, their wives, and their sons, and their daughters; and I will pour their wickedness upon them.
Pea ʻe lī ki he ngaahi hala ʻo Selūsalema ʻae kakai ʻoku nau kikite ki ai, koeʻuhi ko e honge pea mo e heletā; pea ʻe ʻikai ha taha ke tanu ʻakinautolu, ko kinautolu mo honau ngaahi uaifi, mo honau ngaahi foha, pea mo honau ngaahi ʻofefine: he te u lilingi kiate kinautolu ʻenau angahala.”
17 And thou shalt say this word unto them: Let mine eyes run down with tears, night and day, and not cease; for the virgin daughter of my people is broken with a great breach, with a very grievous blow.
Ko ia ke ke fakahā ʻae lea ni kiate kinautolu: “Ke tafe hifo ʻi he ʻaho mo e pō ʻae loʻimata mei hoku mata, pea ʻoua naʻa tuku ia: koeʻuhi kuo maumauʻi ʻae ʻofefine tāupoʻou ʻo hoku kakai ʻaki ʻae maumauʻi lahi, pea mo e tā mamahi ʻaupito.
18 If I go forth into the field, behold the slain with the sword! and if I enter into the city, behold them that pine away with famine! For both prophet and priest shall go about into a land that they know not.
Kapau te u ʻalu atu ki he ngoue, ʻoku ou mamata kiate kinautolu naʻe tāmateʻi ʻaki ʻae heletā! Pea kapau te u hū ki he kolo, ʻoku ou mamata kiate kinautolu ʻoku mate ʻi he honge! Ka ʻoku ʻalu fano pe ʻi he fonua ʻae palōfita mo e taulaʻeiki, ke fai fakatau, ʻo ʻikai [te nau ]tokanga.”
19 — Hast thou then utterly rejected Judah? Doth thy soul loathe Zion? Why hast thou smitten us, and there is no healing for us? Peace is looked for, and there is no good, — and a time of healing, and behold terror!
Kuo ke liʻaki ʻaupito ʻa Siuta? Kuo fakaliliʻa ho laumālie ki Saione? Ko e hā kuo ke taaʻi ai ʻakimautolu, pea ʻoku ʻikai ha fakamoʻui? Naʻa mau ʻamanaki ki he fiemālie, ka ʻoku ʻikai ha lelei; ki he ʻaho fakamoʻui, kae vakai ko e mamahi pe.
20 Jehovah, we acknowledge our wickedness, the iniquity of our fathers; for we have sinned against thee.
ʻE Sihova, ʻoku mau vete ʻemau angahala, pea mo e hia ʻa ʻemau ngaahi tamai: he kuo mau fai angahala kiate koe.
21 For thy name's sake, do not spurn [us], do not disgrace the throne of thy glory: remember, break not thy covenant with us.
ʻOua naʻa ke fakaliliʻa kiate kimautolu, koeʻuhi ko ho huafa, ʻoua naʻa fakaongoongo koviʻi ʻae ʻafioʻanga ʻo ho nāunau: ke ke manatuʻi, pea ʻoua naʻa fakataʻeʻaonga hoʻo fuakava mo kimautolu.
22 Are there any among the vanities of the nations that can cause rain? or can the heavens give showers? Art not thou HE, Jehovah, our God? And we wait upon thee; for thou hast made all these things.
ʻOku ai ha taha ʻi he ngaahi vaʻinga ʻoe hiteni te ne faʻa fakatō ha ʻuha? Pe faʻa foaki hifo ʻe he ngaahi langi ʻae ʻuha? ʻIkai ko koe ia, ʻE Sihova ko homau ʻOtua? Ko ia te mau ʻamanaki lelei kiate koe: he kuo ke ngaohi ʻae ngaahi meʻa ni kotoa pē.
