Jeremiah 13
1 Thus said Jehovah unto me: Go and buy thee a linen girdle, and put it upon thy loins; but dip it not in water.
Voici ce que dit le Seigneur: Pars et achète-toi une ceinture de lin, et mets-la autour de tes reins, et elle ne passera pas l'eau.
2 And I bought a girdle according to the word of Jehovah, and put it upon my loins.
Et j'achetai la ceinture, selon la parole du Seigneur, et je la mis autour de mes reins.
3 And the word of Jehovah came unto me the second time, saying,
Et la parole du Seigneur vint à moi, disant:
4 Take the girdle that thou hast bought, which is upon thy loins, and arise, go to the Euphrates, and hide it there in a hole of the rock.
Prends la ceinture qui entoure tes reins, et lève-toi; puis va sur l'Euphrate, et en ce lieu cache-la dans une crevasse de rocher,
5 So I went and hid it by the Euphrates, as Jehovah had commanded me.
Et je partis, et je cachai la ceinture près de l'Euphrate, somme me l'avait commandé le Seigneur.
6 And it came to pass at the end of many days, that Jehovah said unto me, Arise, go to the Euphrates, and take the girdle from thence which I commanded thee to hide there.
Et ceci arriva bien des jours après, le Seigneur me dit: Lève-toi, et va sur l'Euphrate, et retire de ce lieu la ceinture que je t'ai ordonné d'y cacher.
7 And I went to the Euphrates, and digged, and took the girdle from the place where I had hid it; and behold, the girdle was spoiled, it was good for nothing.
Et j'allai sur l'Euphrate, et je creusai, et je retirai la ceinture du lieu où je l'avais enfouie, et voilà qu'elle était si consumée, qu'elle n'était plus bonne à rien.
8 And the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying,
Et la parole du Seigneur vint à moi, disant:
9 Thus saith Jehovah: After this manner will I spoil the pride of Judah, and the great pride of Jerusalem.
Voici ce que dit le Seigneur: Ainsi je consumerai l'orgueil de Juda et l'orgueil de Jérusalem,
10 This evil people, who refuse to hear my words, who walk in the stubbornness of their heart, and go after other gods, to serve them and to worship them, shall even be as this girdle which is good for nothing.
Et ce grand orgueil des hommes qui ne veulent point écouter ma parole, et qui ont marché à la nuit des dieux étrangers, pour les adorer et les servir. Et ils seront comme une ceinture qui n'est plus bonne à rien.
11 For as a girdle cleaveth to the loins of a man, so have I caused to cleave unto me the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah, saith Jehovah; that they might be unto me for a people, and for a name, and for a praise, and for a glory: but they would not hear.
Car de même qu'on attache une ceinture aux reins de l'homme, de même je m'étais attaché la maison d'Israël et toute la maison de Juda, pour qu'elles fussent mon peuple renommé, ma fierté et ma gloire; et ils ne m'ont point écouté.
12 And thou shalt speak unto them this word: Thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel, Every skin shall be filled with wine. And they will say unto thee, Do we not very well know that every skin shall be filled with wine?
Et tu diras à ce peuple: Chaque outre sera remplie de vin; et s'ils te disent: Ne savons-nous pas que chaque outre sera remplie de vin?
13 And thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith Jehovah: Behold, I will fill all the inhabitants of this land, and the kings that sit for David upon his throne, and the priests and the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, with drunkenness.
Tu leur diras: Ainsi dit le Seigneur: Voilà que je vais remplir de boisson enivrante ceux qui habitent cette terre, et leurs rois, fils de David assis sur le trône, et leurs prêtres, et tous les hommes de Juda et de Jérusalem;
14 And I will dash them one against another, both the fathers and the sons together, saith Jehovah; I will not pity, nor spare, nor have mercy so as not to destroy them.
Et je les disperserai tous: je séparerai le frère du frère, et le père de ses fils. Je n'en aurai point de regrets, dit le Seigneur, et je n'épargnerai personne, et je serai sans pitié en les détruisant.
15 Hear ye, and give ear, be not lifted up; for Jehovah hath spoken.
Écoutez, prêtez l'oreille, et ne vous élevez pas; car le Seigneur a parlé.
16 Give glory to Jehovah your God, before he cause darkness, and before your feet stumble upon the mountains of twilight; and ye shall look for light, but he will turn it into the shadow of death, and make [it] gross darkness.
Rendez gloire au Seigneur votre Dieu, avant la nuit, avant que vos pieds se heurtent à des montagnes de ténèbres. Et vous attendez la lumière; et ce sera l'ombre de la mort, et les hommes resteront dans l'obscurité.
17 And if ye will not hear it, my soul shall weep in secret places for [your] pride; and mine eye shall weep sore, and run down with tears, because Jehovah's flock is gone into captivity.
Si vous ne m'écoutez point, votre âme pleurera secrètement sur son orgueil, et vos yeux verseront des larmes, parce que le troupeau du Seigneur aura été meurtri.
18 Say unto the king and to the queen: Humble yourselves, sit down low; for from your heads shall come down the crown of your magnificence.
Dites au roi et aux princes: Humiliez-vous, prosternez-vous; car votre couronne de gloire a été enlevée de votre tête.
19 The cities of the south are shut up, and there is none to open [them]; all Judah is carried away captive: it is wholly carried away captive.
Les villes du midi ont été fermées, et il n'est resté personne pour les ouvrir. Juda a été transporté tout entier; ils ont tous été émigrants et captifs.
20 Lift up your eyes, and behold them that come from the north. Where is the flock that was given thee, thy beautiful flock?
Lève les yeux, Jérusalem, et vois ceux qui viennent de l'aquilon. Où est le troupeau qui t'a été donné? où sont les brebis qui faisaient ta gloire?
21 What wilt thou say when he shall visit thee, since thou thyself hast trained them to be princes in chief over thee? Shall not sorrows take thee, as a woman in travail?
Que diras-tu, quand ils te visiteront? C'est toi qui les as instruits contre toi, et tes leçons datent de loin. Ne seras-tu pas saisie de douleurs, comme la femme qui enfante?
22 And if thou say in thy heart, Wherefore come these things upon me? For the greatness of thine iniquity are thy skirts uncovered, [and] thy heels have suffered violence.
Et si tu dis en ton cœur: Pourquoi ces choses m'arrivent-elles? A cause de la multitude de tes iniquités; ta robe a été soulevée par derrière, pour que tes jambes reçoivent un châtiment infâme.
23 Can an Ethiopian change his skin, or a leopard his spots? [Then] may ye also do good, who are accustomed to do evil.
Quand un Éthiopien changera la couleur de sa peau, et la panthère sa bigarrure, vous pourrez faire le bien, vous qui n'avez appris que le mal.
24 And I will scatter them as stubble that passeth away by the wind of the wilderness.
Et je les ai dispersés comme des broussailles qu'emporte le vent du désert.
25 This shall be thy lot, thy measured portion from me, saith Jehovah; because thou hast forgotten me, and confided in falsehood.
Tel sera ton sort, tel sera ton partage pour m'avoir désobéi, dit le Seigneur. Comme tu m'as oublié pour mettre ton espérance en des mensonges,
26 Therefore will I also turn thy skirts over thy face, and thy shame shall be seen.
De même je relèverai ta robe sur ta face, et ton ignominie apparaîtra,
27 Thine adulteries, and thy neighings, the lewdness of thy fornication, on the hills, in the fields, — thine abominations, have I seen. Woe unto thee, Jerusalem! Wilt thou not be made clean? after how long a time yet?
Et tes adultères, et tes hennissements, et ta prostitution à des étrangers; j'ai vu tes abominations sur les collines et dans les champs. Malheur à toi, Jérusalem; car tu n'as pas été purifiée, pour marcher à ma suite. Et jusques à quand en sera-t-il ainsi?
