James 2
1 My brethren, do not have the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, [Lord] of glory, with respect of persons:
೧ನನ್ನ ಸಹೋದರರೇ, ಮಹಿಮೆಯುಳ್ಳ ನಮ್ಮ ಕರ್ತನಾದ ಯೇಸು ಕ್ರಿಸ್ತನಲ್ಲಿ ನಂಬಿಕೆಯಿಟ್ಟವರಾದ ನೀವು ಪಕ್ಷಪಾತಿಗಳಾಗಿರಬಾರದು.
2 for if there come unto your synagogue a man with a gold ring in splendid apparel, and a poor man also come in in vile apparel,
೨ಹೇಗೆಂದರೆ ಒಬ್ಬ ಮನುಷ್ಯನು ಚಿನ್ನದ ಉಂಗುರಗಳನ್ನು ಮತ್ತು ಉತ್ತಮವಾದ ವಸ್ತ್ರಗಳನ್ನೂ ಹಾಕಿಕೊಂಡು ನಿಮ್ಮ ಸಭೆಯೊಳಗೆ ಬಂದಾಗ ಮತ್ತು ಒಬ್ಬ ಬಡ ಮನುಷ್ಯನು ಕೊಳಕು ಬಟ್ಟೆಗಳನ್ನು ಧರಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಬಂದಾಗ,
3 and ye look upon him who wears the splendid apparel, and say, Do thou sit here well, and say to the poor, Do thou stand there, or sit here under my footstool:
೩ನೀವು ಉತ್ತಮವಾದ ವಸ್ತ್ರಗಳನ್ನು ಧರಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಬಂದಿರುವವನನ್ನು ಗೌರವದಿಂದ ನೋಡಿ ಅವನಿಗೆ “ನೀವು ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ಗೌರವ ಆಸನದಲ್ಲಿ ಕುಳಿತುಕೊಳ್ಳಿರಿ” ಎಂತಲೂ, ಆ ಬಡ ಮನುಷ್ಯನಿಗೆ “ನೀನು ಅಲ್ಲಿ ನಿಂತುಕೋ” ಇಲ್ಲವೇ “ಇಲ್ಲಿ ನನ್ನ ಕಾಲ್ಮಣೆಯ ಬಳಿ ಕುಳಿತುಕೋ” ಎಂತಲೂ ಹೇಳಿದರೆ,
4 have ye not made a difference among yourselves, and become judges having evil thoughts?
೪ನೀವು ನಿಮ್ಮ ನಿಮ್ಮಲ್ಲಿ ಭೇದಭಾವ ಮಾಡುವವರಾಗಿದ್ದು, ತಾರತಮ್ಯ ಆಲೋಚನೆಗಳಂತೆ ನಡೆಯುವ ನಿರ್ಧಾರ ಮಾಡುವವರಾಗಿರುತ್ತೀರಿ ಅಲ್ಲವೇ?
5 Hear, my beloved brethren: Has not God chosen the poor as to the world, rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom, which he has promised to them that love him?
೫ನನ್ನ ಪ್ರಿಯ ಸಹೋದರರೇ, ಕೇಳಿರಿ ದೇವರು ಈ ಲೋಕದಲ್ಲಿನ ಬಡವರನ್ನು ನಂಬಿಕೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಐಶ್ವರ್ಯವಂತರನ್ನಾಗಿಯೂ, ತನ್ನನ್ನು ಪ್ರೀತಿಸುವವರಿಗೆ ತಾನು ವಾಗ್ದಾನ ಮಾಡಿದ ರಾಜ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ಬಾಧ್ಯರಾಗಿಯೂ ಇರಬೇಕೆಂದು ಆರಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲಿಲ್ಲವೇ?
6 But ye have despised the poor [man]. Do not the rich oppress you, and [do not] they drag you before [the] tribunals?
೬ನೀವಾದರೋ ಬಡವರನ್ನು ಅವಮಾನಪಡಿಸಿದ್ದೀರಿ. ನಿಮ್ಮನ್ನು ಬಾಧಿಸಿ ನ್ಯಾಯಸ್ಥಾನದ ಮುಂದೆ ಎಳೆದುಕೊಂಡು ಹೋಗುವವರು ಐಶ್ವರ್ಯವಂತರಲ್ಲವೋ?
7 And [do not] they blaspheme the excellent name which has been called upon you?
೭ನೀವು ಕರೆಯಲ್ಪಟ್ಟ ಆ ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠವಾದ ನಾಮವನ್ನು ದೂಷಿಸುವವರು ಅವರಲ್ಲವೋ?
8 If indeed ye keep [the] royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well.
೮ಆದರೂ ಧರ್ಮಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಕ್ಕೆ ಸರಿಯಾಗಿ “ನಿನ್ನ ನೆರೆಯವನನ್ನು ನಿನ್ನಂತೆಯೇ ಪ್ರೀತಿಸಬೇಕು” ಎಂಬ ರಾಜಾಜ್ಞೆಯನ್ನು ನೆರವೇರಿಸುವವರಾದರೆ, ನೀವು ಒಳ್ಳೆಯದನ್ನೇ ಮಾಡುವವರಾಗಿರುವಿರಿ.
9 But if ye have respect of persons, ye commit sin, being convicted by the law as transgressors.
೯ಒಂದು ವೇಳೆ ಅದನ್ನು ಬಿಟ್ಟು ನೀವು ಪಕ್ಷಪಾತಿಗಳಾಗಿದ್ದರೆ ಪಾಪಮಾಡುವವರಾಗಿದ್ದು ಅಪರಾಧಿಗಳೆಂದು ಧರ್ಮಶಾಸ್ತ್ರದ ಪ್ರಕಾರ ತೀರ್ಮಾನಿಸಲ್ಪಡುತ್ತೀರಿ.
10 For whoever shall keep the whole law and shall offend in one [point], he has come under the guilt of [breaking] all.
೧೦ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಯಾರಾದರೂ ಧರ್ಮಶಾಸ್ತ್ರವನ್ನೆಲ್ಲಾ ಕೈಕೊಂಡು ನಡೆದು ಅದರಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದೇ ಒಂದು ವಿಷಯದಲ್ಲಿ ತಪ್ಪಿದರೆ ಅಂಥವರು ಎಲ್ಲಾ ವಿಷಯಗಳಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ಅಪರಾಧಿಯಾಗಿರುತ್ತಾರೆ.
11 For he who said, Thou shalt not commit adultery, said also, Thou shalt not kill. Now if thou dost not commit adultery, but killest, thou art become transgressor of [the] law.
೧೧ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ವ್ಯಭಿಚಾರ ಮಾಡಬಾರದೆಂದು ಹೇಳಿದವನೇ ನರಹತ್ಯ ಮಾಡಬಾರದೆಂತಲೂ ಹೇಳಿದನು. ಆದಕಾರಣ ನೀನು ವ್ಯಭಿಚಾರಮಾಡದೆ ಇದ್ದರೂ ನರಹತ್ಯ ಮಾಡಿದರೆ ಧರ್ಮಶಾಸ್ತ್ರವನ್ನು ಮೀರಿದವನಾಗಿರುತ್ತಿ.
12 So speak ye, and so act, as those that are to be judged by [the] law of liberty;
೧೨ನೀವು ಬಿಡುಗಡೆಯನ್ನುಂಟು ಮಾಡುವ ಧರ್ಮಶಾಸ್ತ್ರದ ಪ್ರಕಾರ ತೀರ್ಪುಹೊಂದುವವರಿಗೆ ತಕ್ಕಂತೆ ಮಾತನಾಡಿರಿ ಮತ್ತು ವಿಧೇಯರಾಗಿರಿ.
13 for judgment [will be] without mercy to him that has shewn no mercy. Mercy glories over judgment.
೧೩ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ಕರುಣೆ ತೋರಿಸದೆ ಇರುವವನಿಗೆ ನ್ಯಾಯತೀರ್ಪಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಕರುಣೆಯು ತೋರಿಸಲ್ಪಡುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಕರುಣೆಯು ನ್ಯಾಯತೀರ್ಪಿನ ಮೇಲೆ ಜಯ ಹೊಂದುತ್ತದೆ.
14 What [is] the profit, my brethren, if any one say he have faith, but have not works? can faith save him?
೧೪ನನ್ನ ಸಹೋದರರೇ, ಒಬ್ಬನು ತನಗೆ ನಂಬಿಕೆಯುಂಟೆಂದು ಹೇಳಿಕೊಂಡು ತಕ್ಕ ಕ್ರಿಯೆಗಳಿಲ್ಲದವನಾಗಿದ್ದರೆ ಪ್ರಯೋಜನವೇನು? ಅಂಥ ನಂಬಿಕೆಯು ಅವನನ್ನು ರಕ್ಷಿಸುವುದೋ?
15 Now if a brother or a sister is naked and destitute of daily food,
೧೫ನಿಮ್ಮಲ್ಲಿ ಒಬ್ಬ ಸಹೋದರನಿಗೆ ಇಲ್ಲವೆ ಒಬ್ಬ ಸಹೋದರಿಗೆ ಉಡಲು ಬಟ್ಟೆಯೂ ಮತ್ತು ದಿನನಿತ್ಯದ ಆಹಾರವೂ ಅಗತ್ಯವಾಗಿರುವಾಗ,
16 and one from amongst you say to them, Go in peace, be warmed and filled; but give not to them the needful things for the body, what [is] the profit?
೧೬ನಿಮ್ಮಲ್ಲಿ ಒಬ್ಬನು ಅವರಿಗೆ ದೈಹಿಕ ಅವಶ್ಯಕತೆಗಳನ್ನು ಪೂರೈಸದೆ “ಸಮಾಧಾನದಿಂದ ಹೋಗಿರಿ, ಬೆಚ್ಚಗೆ ಬೆಂಕಿಕಾಯಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಿ, ಹೊಟ್ಟೆ ತುಂಬಾ ಊಟಮಾಡಿ” ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದರೆ ಪ್ರಯೋಜನವೇನು?
17 So also faith, if it have not works, is dead by itself.
೧೭ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಕ್ರಿಯೆಗಳಿಲ್ಲದ ನಂಬಿಕೆಯು ನಿರ್ಜೀವವಾದದು.
18 But some one will say, Thou hast faith and I have works. Shew me thy faith without works, and I from my works will shew thee my faith.
೧೮ಆದರೂ ಒಬ್ಬನು; “ನಿನಗೆ ನಂಬಿಕೆಯುಂಟು ಮತ್ತು ನನಗೆ ಕ್ರಿಯೆಗಳುಂಟು” ನೀನು ಕ್ರಿಯೆಗಳಿಲ್ಲದೆ ನಿನ್ನ ನಂಬಿಕೆಯನ್ನು ನನಗೆ ತೋರಿಸು. ನಾನು ನನ್ನ ಕ್ರಿಯೆಗಳ ಮುಖಾಂತರ ನನ್ನ ನಂಬಿಕೆಯನ್ನು ತೋರಿಸುತ್ತೇನೆ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳುವನಲ್ಲವೇ.
19 Thou believest that God is one. Thou doest well. The demons even believe, and tremble.
೧೯ದೇವರು ಒಬ್ಬನೇ ಎಂದು ನೀನು ನಂಬುತ್ತೀ; ಹಾಗೆ ನಂಬುವುದು ಸರಿ. ಆದರೆ ದೆವ್ವಗಳು ಸಹ ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ನಂಬಿ ಹೆದರಿ ನಡುಗುತ್ತವೆ.
20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?
೨೦ಅವಿವೇಕಿಯೇ, ಕ್ರಿಯೆಗಳಿಲ್ಲದ ನಂಬಿಕೆಯು ವ್ಯರ್ಥವಾದದ್ದು ಎಂದು ನಿನಗೆ ಸಾಬಿತುಪಡಿಸಬೇಕೋ?
21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?
೨೧ನಮ್ಮ ಪಿತೃವಾದ ಅಬ್ರಹಾಮನು ತನ್ನ ಮಗನಾದ ಇಸಾಕನನ್ನು ಯಜ್ಞವೇದಿಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಅರ್ಪಿಸಿದಾಗ ನೀತಿವಂತನೆಂಬ ನಿರ್ಣಯವನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿದ್ದು ನಂಬಿಕೆಯ ಕ್ರಿಯೆಗಳಿಂದಲ್ಲವೇ?
22 Thou seest that faith wrought with his works, and that by works faith was perfected.
೨೨ಅವನ ನಂಬಿಕೆಯು ಕ್ರಿಯೆಗಳೊಂದಿಗೆ ಕಾರ್ಯಮಾಡಿತ್ತು ಮತ್ತು ಆ ಕ್ರಿಯೆಗಳಿಂದಲೇ ಅವನ ನಂಬಿಕೆಯ ಉದ್ದೇಶವು ನೆರವೇರಿತು ಎಂದು ಕಾಣುತ್ತೇವಲ್ಲಾ.
23 And the scripture was fulfilled which says, Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness, and he was called Friend of God.
೨೩“ಅಬ್ರಹಾಮನು ದೇವರನ್ನು ನಂಬಿದನು ಮತ್ತು ಆ ನಂಬಿಕೆ ಅವನ ಲೆಕ್ಕಕ್ಕೆ ನೀತಿಯೆಂದು ಎಣಿಸಲ್ಪಟ್ಟಿತು” ಎಂಬ ಧರ್ಮಶಾಸ್ತ್ರದ ಮಾತು ಹೀಗೆ ನೆರವೇರಿತು. ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ಅಬ್ರಹಾಮನು ದೇವರ ಸ್ನೇಹಿತನೆಂದು ಕರೆಯಲ್ಪಟ್ಟನು.
24 Ye see that a man is justified on the principle of works, and not on the principle of faith only.
೨೪ಆದುದರಿಂದ ಮನುಷ್ಯನು, ಕ್ರಿಯೆಗಳಿಂದ ನೀತಿವಂತನೆಂದು ನಿರ್ಣಯಿಸಲ್ಪಡುತ್ತಾನೆ ಹೊರತು ಬರೀ ನಂಬಿಕೆಯಿಂದಲ್ಲ ಎಂದು ನೋಡುತ್ತೀರಿ.
25 But was not in like manner also Rahab the harlot justified on the principle of works, when she had received the messengers and put [them] forth by another way?
೨೫ಅದೇ ರೀತಿಯಾಗಿ ವೇಶ್ಯೆಯಾದ ರಾಹಾಬಳು ಗೂಢಚಾರರನ್ನು ತನ್ನ ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸೇರಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು, ಬೇರೆ ದಾರಿಯಿಂದ ಅವರನ್ನು ಕಳುಹಿಸಿದ ಕ್ರಿಯೆಗಳಿಂದಲೇ ನೀತಿವಂತಳೆಂಬ, ನಿರ್ಣಯವನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿದಳಲ್ಲವೇ?
26 For as the body without a spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead.
೨೬ಆತ್ಮವಿಲ್ಲದ ದೇಹವು ಸತ್ತದ್ದಾಗಿರುವ ಪ್ರಕಾರವೇ ಕ್ರಿಯೆಗಳಿಲ್ಲದ ನಂಬಿಕೆಯೂ ಸತ್ತದ್ದಾಗಿದೆ.
