Isaiah 8
1 And Jehovah said to me, Take thee a great tablet, and write thereon with a man's style, concerning Maher-shalal-hash-baz.
El Señor me dijo: “Toma una tabla grande y escribe en ella con pluma de hombre: ‘Para Maher Shalal Hash Baz’;
2 And I took unto me to witness, sure witnesses, Urijah the priest, and Zechariah the son of Jeberechiah.
y tomaré para mí testigos fieles que den testimonio: El sacerdote Urías, y Zacarías, hijo de Jeberecías”.
3 And I came near to the prophetess, and she conceived and bore a son; and Jehovah said unto me, Call his name, Maher-shalal-hash-baz.
Fui a la profetisa, y ella concibió y dio a luz un hijo. Entonces Yahvé me dijo: “Llámalo ‘Maher Shalal Hash Baz’.
4 For before the lad knoweth to cry, My father! and, My mother! the riches of Damascus and the spoil of Samaria shall be taken away before the king of Assyria.
Porque antes de que el niño sepa decir: ‘Mi padre’ y ‘Mi madre’, las riquezas de Damasco y el saqueo de Samaria serán llevados por el rey de Asiria.”
5 And Jehovah spoke again to me, saying,
El Señor me habló de nuevo, diciendo:
6 Forasmuch as this people refuseth the waters of Shiloah which flow softly, and rejoiceth in Rezin and in the son of Remaliah,
“Porque este pueblo ha rechazado las aguas de Siloé que van suavemente, y se regocija en Rezín y en el hijo de Remalías;
7 therefore behold, the Lord will bring up upon them the waters of the river, strong and many, the king of Assyria and all his glory; and he shall mount up over all his channels, and go over all his banks:
ahora, pues, he aquí que el Señor trae sobre ellos la poderosa crecida del río: el rey de Asiria y toda su gloria. Subirá por todos sus cauces, y desbordará todas sus riberas.
8 and he shall pass through Judah; he shall overflow it and go further, he shall reach even to the neck; and the stretching out of his wings shall fill the breadth of thy land, O Immanuel!
Arrasará con Judá. Se desbordará y pasará. Llegará hasta el cuello. El despliegue de sus alas llenará la anchura de tu tierra, oh Emanuel.
9 Rage, ye peoples, and be broken in pieces! And give ear, all ye distant parts of the earth: Gird yourselves, and be broken in pieces; gird yourselves, and be broken in pieces!
¡Armad un escándalo, pueblos, y destrozaos! Escuchad, todos los que venís de países lejanos: ¡vestid la batalla y sed destrozados! ¡Vestíos para la batalla, y sed destrozados!
10 Settle a plan, and it shall come to nought; speak a word, and it shall not stand: for God is with us.
Haced consejo juntos, y quedará en nada; hablad la palabra, y no se mantendrá, porque Dios está con nosotros.”
11 For Jehovah spoke thus to me with a strong hand, and he instructed me not to walk in the way of this people, saying,
Porque Yahvé me habló de esto con mano fuerte, y me instruyó para que no siguiera el camino de este pueblo, diciendo:
12 Ye shall not say, Conspiracy, of everything of which this people saith, Conspiracy; and fear ye not their fear, and be not in dread.
“No llames conspiración a todo lo que este pueblo llama conspiración. No temas sus amenazas ni te dejes aterrorizar.
13 Jehovah of hosts, him shall ye sanctify; and let him be your fear, and let him be your dread.
El Señor de los Ejércitos es a quien debes respetar como santo. A él es a quien debes temer. A él es a quien debes temer.
14 And he will be for a sanctuary; and for a stone of stumbling, and for a rock of offence to both the houses of Israel, for a gin and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
Él será un santuario, pero para ambas casas de Israel será una piedra de tropiezo y una roca que los haga caer. Para el pueblo de Jerusalén, será una trampa y un lazo.
15 And many among them shall stumble, and fall, and be broken, and snared, and taken.
Muchos tropezarán con él, caerán, se romperán, quedarán atrapados y serán capturados.”
16 Bind up the testimony, seal the law among my disciples.
Envuelve el pacto. Sella la ley entre mis discípulos.
17 And I will wait for Jehovah, who hideth his face from the house of Jacob; and I will look for him.
Esperaré a Yahvé, que esconde su rostro de la casa de Jacob, y lo buscaré.
18 Behold, I and the children that Jehovah hath given me are for signs and for wonders in Israel, from Jehovah of hosts, who dwelleth in mount Zion.
He aquí que yo y los hijos que Yahvé me ha dado somos para señales y prodigios en Israel de parte de Yahvé de los Ejércitos, que habita en el monte Sión.
19 And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto the necromancers and unto the soothsayers, who chirp and who mutter, [say, ] Shall not a people seek unto their God? [Will they go] for the living unto the dead?
Cuando os dicen: “Consultad con los que tienen espíritus familiares y con los magos, que gorjean y que murmuran”, ¿no debería un pueblo consultar a su Dios? ¿Deben consultar a los muertos en nombre de los vivos?
20 To the law and the testimony! If they speak not according to this word, for them there is no daybreak.
¡Vuelvan a la ley y al pacto! Si no hablan conforme a esta palabra, ciertamente no hay mañana para ellos.
21 And they shall pass through it, hard pressed and hungry; and it shall come to pass when they are hungry, they will fret themselves, and curse their king and their God, and will gaze upward:
Pasarán por ella, muy angustiados y hambrientos. Sucederá que cuando tengan hambre, se preocuparán y maldecirán a su rey y a su Dios. Volverán sus rostros hacia arriba,
22 and they will look to the earth; and behold, trouble and darkness, gloom of anguish; and they shall be driven into thick darkness.
entonces mirarán a la tierra y verán la angustia, las tinieblas y la oscuridad de la angustia. Se verán sumidos en densas tinieblas.
