Isaiah 58
1 Cry aloud, spare not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet, and declare unto my people their transgression, and to the house of Jacob their sins.
Crie de toute ta force, et ne cesse point; élève ta voix comme le son d'une trompette, et fais connaître ses péchés à mon peuple, et à la maison de Jacob ses iniquités.
2 Yet they seek me daily, and delight to know my ways, as a nation that doeth righteousness, and hath not forsaken the ordinance of their God; they ask of me the ordinances of righteousness, they take delight in approaching to God:
Ils me cherchent de jour en jour; ils désirent connaître mes voies comme un peuple qui a pratiqué la justice, et n'a point abandonné le jugement de son Dieu. Ils me demandent maintenant un jugement équitable, et ils désirent s'approcher de Dieu.
3 — Wherefore have we fasted, and thou seest not; have afflicted our soul, and thou takest no knowledge? Behold, in the day of your fast ye find what pleaseth [you], and exact all your labours.
Pourquoi, disent-ils, avons-nous jeûné sans que vous l'ayez vu? Pourquoi avons-nous humilié nos âmes sans que vous en ayez rien su? C'est qu'en vos jours de jeûne vous avez trouvé votre plaisir, et vous affligez tous tous ceux qui vous sont soumis.
4 Behold, ye have fasted for strife and debate, and to smite with the fist of wickedness; ye do not at present fast, to cause your voice to be heard on high.
Si vous jeûnez pour vous livrer à vos procès et à vos querelles, si vous frappez du poing le pauvre, à quel propos jeûnez-vous pour moi, comme aujourd'hui, criant et élevant la voix afin d'être entendus?
5 Is such the fast that I have chosen, a day for a man to afflict his soul, — that he should bow down his head as a bulrush, and spread sackcloth and ashes [under him]? Wilt thou call this a fast, and a day acceptable to Jehovah?
Je n'ai point choisi ce jeûne ni ce jour pour qu'un homme humilie son âme; cesse donc de courber ton cou comme un cerceau, de t'étendre sur la cendre et les cilices, et après cela d'appeler ce jeûne agréable à Dieu.
6 Is not this the fast which I have chosen: to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the thongs of the yoke, and to send forth free the crushed, and that ye break every yoke?
Ce n'est pas un tel jeûne que j'ai choisi, dit le Seigneur; mais romps tous tes liens avec l'iniquité; dénoue les nœuds des contrats violents; renvoie quittes ceux que tu as lésés; déchire toute obligation inique.
7 Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring to thy house the needy wanderers; when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh?
Romps ton pain avec l'affamé; recueille dans ta maison le pauvre sans abri. Si tu vois un homme nu, donne-lui des vêtements, et garde-toi de mépriser ceux de ta propre chair.
8 Then shall thy light break forth as the dawn, and thy health shall spring forth speedily; and thy righteousness shall go before thee, the glory of Jehovah shall be thy rearguard.
Alors ta lumière éclatera comme le matin; ta guérison sera prompte, ta justice te devancera, et la gloire de Dieu t'environnera.
9 Then shalt thou call, and Jehovah will answer; thou shalt cry, and he will say, Here I am. If thou take away from the midst of thee the yoke, the putting forth of the finger and the unjust speech,
Tu crieras alors, et Dieu t'exaucera; tu n'auras pas fini de parler qu'il te dira: Me voici. Si tu éloignes de toi les pièges et les votes injustes, et les paroles de murmure;
10 and thou proffer thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul: then shall thy light rise in the darkness, and thine obscurity be as midday;
Si tu donnes de bon cœur du pain à l'affamé; si tu rassasies l'âme du pauvre, alors ta lumière brillera dans les ténèbres, et tes ténèbres seront comme le midi.
11 and Jehovah will guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and strengthen thy bones; and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a water-spring, whose waters deceive not.
Et Dieu sera toujours avec toi; et tu seras rassasié selon les désirs de ton âme; et tes os seront pleins de moelle; ils seront comme un verger arrosé, comme une fontaine où l'eau ne tarit jamais.
12 And they [that come] of thee shall build the old waste places: thou shalt raise up the foundations [that have remained] from generation to generation; and thou shalt be called, Repairer of the breaches, restorer of frequented paths.
Et tes places, autrefois désertes, seront rebâties; et tes fondations dureront dans tous les siècles pour les générations des générations; et tu seras appelé le réparateur des haies détruites, et tu feras régner la paix en tes sentiers.
13 If thou turn back thy foot from the sabbath, [from] doing thy pleasure on my holy day, and call the sabbath a delight, the holy [day] of Jehovah, honourable; and thou honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking [idle] words;
Si tu défends à tes pieds de transgresser les sabbats pour ne point faire à ta volonté en un jour saint; si tu trouves des délices aux sabbats consacrés à Dieu; si tu t'abstiens de tes travaux; si aucun mot de colère ne sort de ta bouche;
14 then shalt thou delight thyself in Jehovah, and I will cause thee to ride on the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of Jehovah hath spoken.
Si tu mets ta confiance dans le Seigneur, il t'élèvera au-dessus des félicités de la terre; il te donnera pour te nourrir l'héritage de ton père Jacob; car ainsi a parlé la bouche du Seigneur.
