Isaiah 31
1 Woe to them that go down to Egypt for help, and depend on horses, and confide in chariots because [they are] many, and in horsemen because they are very strong; and who look not unto the Holy One of Israel, neither seek Jehovah!
GUAI a coloro che scendono in Egitto per soccorso, e si appoggiano sopra cavalli, e si confidano in carri, perchè [son] molti; e in cavalieri, perchè sono in grandissimo numero; e non riguardano al Santo d'Israele, e non cercano il Signore!
2 But he also is wise, and he bringeth evil, and recalleth not his words; and he will arise against the house of evildoers, and against the help of workers of iniquity.
E pure anch'egli [è] savio, ed ha fatto venire il male, e non ha rivocate le sue parole, e si è levato contro alla casa de' maligni, e contro al soccorso degli operatori di iniquità.
3 And the Egyptians are men, and not God, and their horses flesh, and not spirit; and Jehovah shall stretch forth his hand, and he that helpeth shall stumble, and he that is helped shall fall, and they all shall perish together.
Ma gli Egizi [sono] uomini, e non Dio; ed i lor cavalli [son] carne, e non ispirito. E il Signore stenderà la sua mano; onde l'aiutatore traboccherà, e l'aiutato caderà; e tutti insieme saran consumati.
4 For thus hath Jehovah said unto me: Like as the lion and the young lion growling over his prey, when a multitude of shepherds is called forth against him, is not afraid of their voice, nor giveth way before the multitude of them; so will Jehovah of hosts come down to war upon mount Zion, and on the hill thereof.
Ma, così mi ha detto il Signore: Siccome il leone ed il leoncello freme sopra la preda; e benchè si raduni a grida una moltitudine di pastori contro a lui, non però si spaventa per le lor grida, e non si umilia per lo strepito loro; così scenderà il Signor degli eserciti, per guerreggiare per lo monte di Sion, e per lo colle di essa.
5 As birds with outstretched wings, so will Jehovah of hosts cover Jerusalem; covering, he will also deliver, passing over, he will rescue [it].
Come gli uccelli, volando, [coprono i lor figli], così il Signor degli eserciti farà riparo a Gerusalemme; facendo[le] riparo, e riscotendo[la]; passando, e salvando[la].
6 Turn unto him from whom ye have deeply revolted, ye children of Israel;
Convertitevi a colui, dal quale i figliuoli di Israele si sono profondamente rivolti.
7 for in that day every man shall cast away his idols of silver and his idols of gold, which your sinful hands have made unto you.
Perciocchè in quel giorno ciascuno avrà a schifo gl'idoli del suo argento, e gl'idoli del suo oro, i quali le vostre mani vi hanno fatti [a] peccato.
8 And Asshur shall fall by the sword, not of a great man; and the sword, not of a mean man, shall devour him: and he shall flee from the sword, and his young men shall become tributary;
Ed Assur caderà per la spada, non di un uomo; e il coltello, non di una persona umana, lo divorerà; ed egli se ne fuggirà d'innanzi alla spada, e i suoi giovani saran disfatti.
9 and for fear, he shall pass over to his rock, and his princes shall be afraid of the banner, saith Jehovah, whose fire is in Zion, and his furnace in Jerusalem.
Ed egli passerà nella sua rocca per paura, e i suoi principi saranno spaventati per la bandiera, dice il Signore, il cui fuoco [è] in Sion, e la fornace in Gerusalemme.
