Isaiah 19
1 The burden of Egypt. Behold, Jehovah rideth upon a swift cloud, and cometh to Egypt; and the idols of Egypt are moved at his presence, and the heart of Egypt melteth in the midst of it.
Oracle sur l’Égypte. Voici, l’Éternel est monté sur une nuée rapide, il vient en Égypte; Et les idoles de l’Égypte tremblent devant lui, Et le cœur des Égyptiens tombe en défaillance.
2 And I will incite the Egyptians against the Egyptians; and they shall fight every one against his brother, and every one against his neighbour; city against city, kingdom against kingdom.
J’armerai l’Égyptien contre l’Égyptien, Et l’on se battra frère contre frère, ami contre ami, Ville contre ville, royaume contre royaume.
3 And the spirit of Egypt shall fail in the midst of it, and I will destroy the counsel thereof; and they shall seek unto the idols and unto the conjurers, and unto the necromancers, and unto the soothsayers.
L’esprit de l’Égypte disparaîtra du milieu d’elle, Et j’anéantirai son conseil; On consultera les idoles et les enchanteurs, Ceux qui évoquent les morts et ceux qui prédisent l’avenir.
4 And the Egyptians will I give over into the hand of a cruel lord, and a fierce king shall rule over them, saith the Lord, Jehovah of hosts.
Et je livrerai l’Égypte entre les mains d’un maître sévère; Un roi cruel dominera sur eux, Dit le Seigneur, l’Éternel des armées.
5 And the waters shall fail from the sea, and the river shall be wasted and dried up;
Les eaux de la mer tariront, Le fleuve deviendra sec et aride;
6 and the rivers shall stink, and the streams of Egypt shall be diminished and drain away: the reeds and sedges shall wither.
Les rivières seront infectes, Les canaux de l’Égypte seront bas et desséchés, Les joncs et les roseaux se flétriront.
7 The meadows by the Nile, on the banks of the Nile, and everything sown by the Nile, shall be dried up, be driven away, and be no [more].
Ce ne sera que nudité le long du fleuve, à l’embouchure du fleuve; Tout ce qui aura été semé près du fleuve se desséchera, Se réduira en poussière et périra.
8 And the fishers shall mourn, and all they that cast fish-hook into the Nile shall lament, and they that spread net upon the waters shall languish.
Les pêcheurs gémiront, Tous ceux qui jettent l’hameçon dans le fleuve se lamenteront, Et ceux qui étendent des filets sur les eaux seront désolés.
9 And they that work in fine flax, and they that weave white stuffs shall be ashamed.
Ceux qui travaillent le lin peigné Et qui tissent des étoffes blanches seront confus.
10 And her pillars shall be broken in pieces, and all workers for hire shall be sad of soul.
Les soutiens du pays seront dans l’abattement, Tous les mercenaires auront l’âme attristée.
11 They are but fools, the princes of Zoan, the wise counsellors of Pharaoh: [their] counsel is become senseless. How say ye unto Pharaoh, I am the son of the wise, the son of ancient kings?
Les princes de Tsoan ne sont que des insensés, Les sages conseillers de Pharaon forment un conseil stupide. Comment osez-vous dire à Pharaon: Je suis fils des sages, fils des anciens rois?
12 Where are they then, thy wise [men]? Let them now tell thee, and let them make known what Jehovah of hosts hath purposed upon Egypt.
Où sont-ils donc tes sages? Qu’ils te fassent des révélations, Et qu’on apprenne ce que l’Éternel des armées a résolu contre l’Égypte.
13 The princes of Zoan are become foolish, the princes of Noph are deceived; and the corner-stones of its tribes have caused Egypt to err.
Les princes de Tsoan sont fous, Les princes de Noph sont dans l’illusion, Les chefs des tribus égarent l’Égypte;
14 Jehovah hath mingled a spirit of perverseness in the midst thereof; and they have caused Egypt to err in every work thereof, as a drunkard staggereth in his vomit.
L’Éternel a répandu au milieu d’elle un esprit de vertige, Pour qu’ils fassent chanceler les Égyptiens dans tous leurs actes, Comme un homme ivre chancelle en vomissant.
15 Neither shall there be any work for Egypt, which the head or tail, palm-branch or rush, may do.
Et l’Égypte sera hors d’état de faire Ce que font la tête et la queue, La branche de palmier et le roseau.
16 In that day shall Egypt be like unto women; and it shall tremble and fear because of the shaking of the hand of Jehovah of hosts, which he shaketh over it.
En ce jour, l’Égypte sera comme des femmes: Elle tremblera et aura peur, En voyant s’agiter la main de l’Éternel des armées, Quand il la lèvera contre elle.
17 And the land of Judah shall be a dismay unto Egypt: every one that thinketh of it shall be afraid for himself, because of the counsel of Jehovah of hosts, which he hath purposed against it.
Et le pays de Juda sera pour l’Égypte un objet d’effroi: Dès qu’on lui en parlera, elle sera dans l’épouvante, A cause de la résolution prise contre elle par l’Éternel des armées.
18 In that day shall there be five cities in the land of Egypt speaking the language of Canaan, and swearing by Jehovah of hosts: one shall be called, The city of Heres.
En ce temps-là, il y aura cinq villes au pays d’Égypte, Qui parleront la langue de Canaan, Et qui jureront par l’Éternel des armées: L’une d’elles sera appelée ville de la destruction.
19 In that day shall there be an altar to Jehovah in the midst of the land of Egypt, and a pillar at the border thereof to Jehovah:
En ce même temps, il y aura un autel à l’Éternel Au milieu du pays d’Égypte, Et sur la frontière un monument à l’Éternel.
20 and it shall be for a sign and for a witness to Jehovah of hosts in the land of Egypt; for they shall cry unto Jehovah because of the oppressors, and he will send them a saviour and defender, who shall deliver them.
Ce sera pour l’Éternel des armées un signe et un témoignage Dans le pays d’Égypte; Ils crieront à l’Éternel à cause des oppresseurs, Et il leur enverra un sauveur et un défenseur pour les délivrer.
21 And Jehovah shall be known to the Egyptians, and the Egyptians shall know Jehovah in that day, and shall serve with sacrifice and oblation; and they shall vow a vow unto Jehovah, and perform it.
Et l’Éternel sera connu des Égyptiens, Et les Égyptiens connaîtront l’Éternel en ce jour-là; Ils feront des sacrifices et des offrandes, Ils feront des vœux à l’Éternel et les accompliront.
22 And Jehovah will smite Egypt; he will smite and heal: and they shall return to Jehovah, and he will be entreated of them, and will heal them.
Ainsi l’Éternel frappera les Égyptiens, Il les frappera, mais il les guérira; Et ils se convertiront à l’Éternel, Qui les exaucera et les guérira.
23 In that day shall there be a highway out of Egypt to Assyria; and the Assyrian shall come into Egypt, and the Egyptian into Assyria; and Egypt shall serve with Assyria.
En ce même temps, il y aura une route d’Égypte en Assyrie: Les Assyriens iront en Égypte, et les Égyptiens en Assyrie, Et les Égyptiens avec les Assyriens serviront l’Éternel.
24 In that day shall Israel be the third with Egypt and with Assyria, a blessing in the midst of the earth;
En ce même temps, Israël sera, lui troisième, Uni à l’Égypte et à l’Assyrie, Et ces pays seront l’objet d’une bénédiction.
25 whom Jehovah of hosts will bless, saying, Blessed be Egypt my people, and Assyria the work of my hands, and Israel mine inheritance!
L’Éternel des armées les bénira, en disant: Bénis soient l’Égypte, mon peuple, Et l’Assyrie, œuvre de mes mains, Et Israël, mon héritage!
