Hosea 4
1 Hear the word of Jehovah, ye children of Israel; for Jehovah hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land; for there is no truth, nor goodness, nor knowledge of God in the land.
Écoutez la parole de Yahvé, enfants d'Israël, car Yahvé a une charge contre les habitants du pays: « En effet, il n'y a pas de vérité, ni de bonté, ni la connaissance de Dieu dans le pays.
2 Swearing, and lying, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery, — they break out; and blood toucheth blood.
Il y a la malédiction, le mensonge, le meurtre, le vol et l'adultère; ils brisent les frontières, et les effusions de sang provoquent des effusions de sang.
3 For this shall the land mourn, and every one that dwelleth therein shall languish, with the beasts of the field, and with the fowl of the heavens, yea, the fishes of the sea also shall be taken away.
C'est pourquoi le pays sera dans le deuil, et tous ceux qui l'habitent dépériront, avec tous les êtres vivants en elle, même les animaux des champs et les oiseaux du ciel; oui, les poissons de la mer meurent aussi.
4 Yet let no man strive, and let no man reprove; for thy people are as they that strive with the priest.
« Que personne ne porte plainte, que personne n'accuse; car ton peuple est comme ceux qui portent plainte contre un prêtre.
5 And thou shalt stumble by day; and the prophet also shall stumble with thee by night: and I will destroy thy mother.
Vous trébucherez le jour, et le prophète aussi trébuchera avec vous dans la nuit; et je détruirai ta mère.
6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge; for thou hast rejected knowledge, and I will reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me; seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I also will forget thy children.
Mon peuple est détruit par manque de connaissance. Parce que vous avez rejeté la connaissance, je vous rejetterai aussi, pour que vous ne soyez pas un prêtre pour moi. Parce que vous avez oublié la loi de votre Dieu, J'oublierai aussi vos enfants.
7 As they were multiplied, so they sinned against me: I will change their glory into shame.
Comme ils se sont multipliés, ils ont péché contre moi. Je changerai leur gloire en honte.
8 They eat the sin of my people, and their soul longeth for their iniquity.
Ils se nourrissent du péché de mon peuple, et ont mis leur cœur dans leur iniquité.
9 And it shall be as the people so the priest; and I will visit their ways upon them, and recompense to them their doings;
Il sera comme un peuple, comme un prêtre; et je les punirai pour leur conduite, et leur rendra la monnaie de leur pièce.
10 and they shall eat, and not have enough; they shall commit whoredom, and shall not increase: for they have left off taking heed to Jehovah.
Ils mangeront, et n'auront pas assez. Ils joueront les prostituées, et n'augmenteront pas; parce qu'ils ont abandonné l'écoute de Yahvé.
11 Fornication, and wine, and new wine take away the heart.
La prostitution, le vin et le vin nouveau enlèvent l'intelligence.
12 My people ask counsel of their stock, and their staff declareth unto them; for the spirit of whoredoms causeth [them] to err, and they have gone a whoring from under their God:
Mon peuple consulte son idole de bois, et répondre à un bâton de bois. En effet, l'esprit de prostitution les a égarés, et ils ont été infidèles à leur Dieu.
13 they sacrifice upon the tops of the mountains, and burn incense upon the hills, under oak and poplar and terebinth, because the shade thereof is good; therefore your daughters play the harlot and your daughters-in-law commit adultery.
Ils sacrifient sur les sommets des montagnes, et brûlent de l'encens sur les collines, sous les chênes, les peupliers et les térébinthes, parce que sa teinte est bonne. C'est pourquoi vos filles jouent les prostituées, et vos épouses commettent l'adultère.
14 I will not punish your daughters when they play the harlot, nor your daughters-in-law for their committing adultery; for they themselves go aside with harlots, and they sacrifice with prostitutes: and the people that doth not understand shall come to ruin.
Je ne punirai pas vos filles lorsqu'elles se prostituent, ni vos épouses quand elles commettent l'adultère; parce que les hommes fréquentent des prostituées, et ils sacrifient avec les prostituées du sanctuaire; ainsi les gens sans compréhension viendront à la ruine.
15 Though thou, Israel, play the harlot, let not Judah trespass; and come ye not unto Gilgal, neither go up to Beth-aven, nor swear [As] Jehovah liveth!
« Bien que toi, Israël, tu joues les prostituées, mais ne laissez pas Judah s'offenser; et ne venez pas à Gilgal, ni aller jusqu'à Beth Aven, ni de jurer: « Comme Yahvé vit ».
16 For Israel is refractory as an untractable heifer; now will Jehovah feed them as a lamb in a wide [pasture].
Car Israël s'est montré extrêmement têtu, comme une génisse obstinée. Alors comment Yahvé les nourrira-t-il comme un agneau dans une prairie?
17 — Ephraim is joined to idols: leave him alone.
Ephraïm est attaché aux idoles. Laissez-le tranquille!
18 Their drink is sour; they give themselves up to whoredom; her great men passionately love [their] shame.
Leur boisson est devenue aigre. Ils jouent continuellement la prostituée. Ses gouvernants aiment beaucoup leur manière honteuse.
19 The wind hath wrapped her up in its wings, and they shall be ashamed because of their sacrifices.
Le vent l'a enveloppée dans ses ailes; et ils seront déçus à cause de leurs sacrifices.
