Genesis 11
1 And the whole earth had one language, and the same words.
Entonces toda la tierra tenía una sola lengua y las mismas palabras.
2 And it came to pass as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar, and dwelt there.
Aconteció que al salir hacia el oriente, encontraron una llanura en la tierra de Sinar y se establecieron allí.
3 And they said one to another, Come on, let us make bricks, and burn [them] thoroughly. And they had brick for stone, and they had asphalt for mortar.
Entonces se dijeron unos a otros: Vengan, fabriquemos adobes y quemémoslos con fuego. El ladrillo les sirvió en lugar de piedra, y el asfalto en lugar de argamasa.
4 And they said, Come on, let us build ourselves a city and a tower, the top of which [may reach] to the heavens; and let us make ourselves a name, lest we be scattered over the face of the whole earth.
Y dijeron: Vengan, construyámonos una ciudad y una torre cuya cúspide llegue al cielo. Hagámonos un nombre, en caso de que seamos esparcidos por la superficie de toda la tierra.
5 And Jehovah came down to see the city and the tower which the children of men built.
Pero Yavé descendió para ver la ciudad y la torre que edificaban los hijos de los hombres.
6 And Jehovah said, Behold, the people is one, and have all one language; and this have they begun to do. And now will they be hindered in nothing that they meditate doing.
Y Yavé dijo: Ciertamente son un pueblo y todos ellos tienen la misma lengua. Éste es solo el principio de su obra y nada les hará desistir de lo que planean hacer.
7 Come, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech.
Vamos, descendamos ya y confundamos allí su lengua para que nadie entienda el lenguaje del otro.
8 And Jehovah scattered them thence over the face of the whole earth. And they left off building the city.
Yavé los dispersó de allí por toda la superficie de la tierra, y desistieron de construir la ciudad.
9 Therefore was its name called Babel; because Jehovah there confounded the language of the whole earth. And Jehovah scattered them thence over the face of the whole earth.
Por eso lo llamó Babel, porque allí Yavé confundió la lengua de toda la tierra. Desde allí Yavé los esparció por la superficie de toda la tierra.
10 These are the generations of Shem. Shem was a hundred years old, and begot Arphaxad two years after the flood.
Estos son los descendientes de Sem: Cuando Sem tenía 100 años engendró a Arfaxad, dos años después del diluvio.
11 And Shem lived after he had begotten Arphaxad five hundred years, and begot sons and daughters.
Sem vivió después de engendrar a Arfaxad 500 años, y engendró hijos e hijas.
12 And Arphaxad lived thirty-five years, and begot Shelah.
Arfaxad vivió 35 años y engendró a Sala.
13 And Arphaxad lived after he had begotten Shelah four hundred and three years, and begot sons and daughters.
Arfaxad vivió 403 años después que engendró a Sala, y engendró hijos e hijas.
14 And Shelah lived thirty years, and begot Eber.
Sala vivió 30 años y engendró a Heber.
15 And Shelah lived after he had begotten Eber four hundred and three years, and begot sons and daughters.
Sala vivió después de engendrar a Heber 403 años, y engendró hijos e hijas.
16 And Eber lived thirty-four years, and begot Peleg.
Heber vivió 34 años y engendró a Peleg.
17 And Eber lived after he had begotten Peleg four hundred and thirty years, and begot sons and daughters.
Heber vivió después de engendrar a Peleg 430 años, y engendró hijos e hijas.
18 And Peleg lived thirty years, and begot Reu.
Peleg vivió 30 años y engendró a Reú.
19 And Peleg lived after he had begotten Reu two hundred and nine years, and begot sons and daughters.
Peleg vivió 209 años después de engendrar a Reú, y engendró hijos e hijas.
20 And Reu lived thirty-two years, and begot Serug.
Reú vivió 32 años y engendró a Serug.
21 And Reu lived after he had begotten Serug two hundred and seven years, and begot sons and daughters.
Reú vivió después de engendrar a Serug 207 años, y engendró hijos e hijas.
22 And Serug lived thirty years, and begot Nahor.
Serug vivió 30 años y engendró a Nacor.
23 And Serug lived after he had begotten Nahor two hundred years, and begot sons and daughters.
Después de engendrar a Nacor, Serug vivió 200 años, y engendró hijos e hijas.
24 And Nahor lived twenty-nine years, and begot Terah.
Nacor vivió 29 años y engendró a Taré.
25 And Nahor lived after he had begotten Terah a hundred and nineteen years, and begot sons and daughters.
Nacor vivió después de engendrar a Taré 119 años, y engendró hijos e hijas.
26 And Terah lived seventy years, and begot Abram, Nahor, and Haran.
Y Taré vivió 70 años y engendró a Abram, a Nacor y a Harán.
27 And these are the generations of Terah: Terah begot Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran begot Lot.
Estos son los descendientes de Taré: Taré engendró a Abram, a Nacor y a Harán. Harán engendró a Lot.
28 And Haran died before the face of his father Terah in the land of his nativity at Ur of the Chaldeans.
Pero Harán murió antes que su padre Taré en la tierra de su nacimiento, Ur de los caldeos.
29 And Abram and Nahor took wives: the name of Abram's wife was Sarai; and the name of Nahor's wife, Milcah, a daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah and the father of Iscah.
Abram y Nacor tomaron para ellos esposas. El nombre de la esposa de Abram era Saray y el de la esposa de Nacor era Milca, hija de Harán, padre de Milca y de Isca.
30 And Sarai was barren: she had no child.
Saray era estéril. No tenía hijos.
31 And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran his son's son, and Sarai his daughter-in-law, his son Abram's wife; and they went forth together out of Ur of the Chaldeans, to go into the land of Canaan, and came as far as Haran, and dwelt there.
Taré tomó a Abram, su hijo, a Lot, su nieto, hijo de Harán, y a Saray, su nuera, esposa de su hijo Abram, y salieron de Ur de los caldeos para ir a la tierra de Canaán. Pero llegaron hasta Harán y se establecieron allí.
32 And the days of Terah were two hundred and five years; and Terah died in Haran.
Los días de Taré fueron 205 años, y murió en Harán.
