Ezekiel 20

1 And it came to pass in the seventh year, in the fifth [month], the tenth of the month, [that] certain of the elders of Israel came to inquire of Jehovah, and they sat before me.

Or il arriva la septième année, au dixième jour du cinquième mois, que quelques-uns des Anciens d'Israël vinrent pour consulter l'Eternel, et s'assirent devant moi.

2 And the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying,

Et la parole de l'Eternel me fut [adressée], en disant:

3 Son of man, speak unto the elders of Israel, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Are ye come to inquire of me? [As] I live, saith the Lord Jehovah, I will not be inquired of by you.

Fils d'homme, parle aux Anciens d'Israël, et leur dis: ainsi a dit le Seigneur l'Eternel: est-ce pour me consulter que vous venez? Je suis vivant, dit le Seigneur l'Eternel, si vous me consultez.

4 Wilt thou judge them, wilt thou judge, son of man? Cause them to know the abominations of their fathers,

Ne les jugeras-tu pas, ne les jugeras-tu pas, fils d'homme? donne-leur à connaître les abominations de leurs pères.

5 and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: In the day when I chose Israel, and lifted up my hand unto the seed of the house of Jacob, and made myself known unto them in the land of Egypt, when I lifted up my hand unto them, saying, I [am] Jehovah your God,

Et leur dis: ainsi a dit le Seigneur l'Eternel: le jour que j'élus Israël, et que je levai ma main à la postérité de la maison de Jacob, et que je me donnai à connaître à eux au pays d'Egypte, et que je leur levai ma main, en disant: Je suis l'Eternel votre Dieu.

6 in that day I lifted up my hand unto them, to bring them out of the land of Egypt into a land that I had espied for them, flowing with milk and honey, which is the ornament of all lands;

En ce jour-là même je leur levai ma main, que je les tirerais hors du pays d'Egypte, pour les amener au pays que j'avais découvert pour eux, pays découlant de lait et de miel, et qui est la noblesse de tous les pays.

7 and I said unto them, Cast ye away every man the abominations of his eyes, and defile not yourselves with the idols of Egypt: I [am] Jehovah your God.

Alors je leur dis: que chacun de vous rejette de devant ses yeux les abominations, et ne vous souillez point par les idoles d'Egypte; je suis l'Eternel votre Dieu.

8 But they rebelled against me, and would not hearken unto me: none of them cast away the abominations of his eyes, neither did they forsake the idols of Egypt. Then I thought to pour out my fury upon them, so as to accomplish mine anger against them in the midst of the land of Egypt.

Mais ils se rebellèrent contre moi, et ils n'agréèrent point de m'écouter; pas un d'eux ne rejeta de devant ses yeux les abominations, ni ne quitta les idoles d'Egypte; et je dis que je répandrais ma fureur sur eux, [et] que je consommerais ma colère sur eux au pays d'Egypte.

9 But I wrought for my name's sake, that it should not be profaned in the sight of the nations among whom they were, in whose sight I had made myself known unto them in bringing them forth out of the land of Egypt.

Mais ce que je les ai tirés hors du pays d'Egypte, je l'ai fait pour l'amour de mon Nom, afin qu'il ne fût point profané en la présence des nations parmi lesquelles ils étaient, et en la présence desquelles je m'étais donné à connaître à eux.

10 And I caused them to go forth out of the land of Egypt, and brought them into the wilderness.

Je les tirai donc hors du pays d'Egypte, et les amenai au désert.

11 And I gave them my statutes, and made known unto them mine ordinances, which if a man do, he shall live by them.

Et je leur donnai mes statuts, et leur fis connaître mes ordonnances, lesquelles si l'homme accomplit, il vivra par elles.

12 And I also gave them my sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them, that they might know that I [am] Jehovah that hallow them.

Je leur donnai aussi mes Sabbats, pour être un signe entre moi et eux, afin qu'ils connussent que je suis l'Eternel qui les sanctifie.

13 But the house of Israel rebelled against me in the wilderness: they walked not in my statutes, and they rejected mine ordinances, which if a man do, he shall live by them; and my sabbaths they greatly profaned: and I said I would pour out my fury upon them in the wilderness, to consume them.

Mais ceux de la maison d'Israël se rebellèrent contre moi au désert, ils ne marchèrent point dans mes statuts, mais ils rejetèrent mes ordonnances; lesquelles si l'homme accomplit il vivra par elles; et ils profanèrent extrêmement mes Sabbats; c'est pourquoi je dis que je répandrais sur eux ma fureur au désert pour les consumer.

14 But I wrought for my name's sake, that it should not be profaned in the sight of the nations, in whose sight I had brought them out.

Et je l'ai fait pour l'amour de mon Nom, afin qu'il ne fût point profané devant les nations, en la présence desquelles je les avais tirés [d'Egypte].

15 And I also lifted up my hand unto them in the wilderness, that I would not bring them into the land that I had given [them], flowing with milk and honey, which is the ornament of all lands;

Et même je leur levai ma main au désert que je ne les amènerais point au pays que je [leur] avais donné, pays découlant de lait et de miel, [et] qui est la noblesse de tous les pays.

16 because they rejected mine ordinances and walked not in my statutes, and profaned my sabbaths: for their heart went after their idols.

Parce qu'ils avaient rejeté mes ordonnances, qu'ils n'avaient point marché dans mes statuts, et qu'ils avaient profané mes Sabbats; car leur cœur marchait après leurs idoles.

17 But mine eye spared them so as not to destroy them, neither did I make a full end of them in the wilderness.

Toutefois mon œil les épargna pour ne les détruire point, et je ne les consumai point entièrement au désert.

18 And I said unto their children in the wilderness, Walk not in the statutes of your fathers, neither keep their ordinances, nor defile yourselves with their idols.

Mais je dis à leurs enfants au désert: ne marchez point dans les statuts de vos pères, et ne gardez point leurs ordonnances, et ne vous souillez point par leurs idoles.

19 I [am] Jehovah your God: walk in my statutes, and keep mine ordinances, and do them;

Je suis l'Eternel votre Dieu; marchez dans mes statuts, et gardez mes ordonnances, et les faites.

20 and hallow my sabbaths; and they shall be a sign between me and you, that ye may know that I [am] Jehovah your God.

Sanctifiez mes Sabbats, et ils seront un signe entre moi et vous, afin que vous connaissiez que je suis l'Eternel votre Dieu.

21 And the children rebelled against me: they walked not in my statutes, neither kept mine ordinances to do them, which if a man do, he shall live by them; they profaned my sabbaths: and I said I would pour out my fury upon them, to accomplish mine anger against them in the wilderness.

Mais les enfants se rebellèrent aussi contre moi, et ils ne marchèrent point dans mes statuts, et ne gardèrent point mes ordonnances pour les faire; lesquelles si l'homme accomplit, il vivra par elles; et ils profanèrent mes Sabbats; c'est pourquoi je dis que je répandrais ma fureur sur eux, [et] que je consommerais ma colère sur eux au désert.

22 But I withdrew my hand, and wrought for my name's sake, that it should not be profaned in the sight of the nations, in whose sight I had brought them out.

Toutefois je retirai ma main, et je le fis pour l'amour de mon Nom, afin qu'il ne fût point profané devant les nations, en la présence desquelles je les avais tirés [d'Egypte].

23 I lifted up my hand also unto them in the wilderness, that I would scatter them among the nations, and disperse them through the countries;

Et néanmoins je leur levai ma main au désert, que je les répandrais parmi les nations, et que je les disperserais dans les pays.

24 because they performed not mine ordinances, and rejected my statutes, and profaned my sabbaths, and their eyes were after their fathers' idols.

Parce qu'ils n'avaient point accompli mes ordonnances, et qu'ils avaient rejeté mes statuts, et profané mes Sabbats, et que leurs yeux étaient attachés aux idoles de leurs pères,

25 And I also gave them statutes that were not good, and ordinances whereby they should not live;

A cause de cela je leur ai donné des statuts [qui n'étaient] pas bons, et des ordonnances par lesquelles ils ne vivraient point.

26 and I defiled them by their own gifts, in that they devoted all that opened the womb, that I might make them desolate, to the end that they might know that I [am] Jehovah.

Et je les ai souillés en leurs dons, en ce qu'ils ont fait passer [par le feu] tous les premiers-nés, afin que je les misse en désolation, [et] afin que l'on connût que je suis l'Eternel.

27 Therefore, son of man, speak unto the house of Israel, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: In this moreover have your fathers blasphemed me, in that they have wrought unfaithfulness against me.

C'est pourquoi, toi fils d'homme, parle à la maison d'Israël, et leur dis: ainsi a dit le Seigneur l'Eternel: vos pères m'ont encore outragé, en ce qu'ils ont commis un tel crime contre moi;

28 When I had brought them into the land which I had lifted up my hand to give unto them, then they saw every high hill and all the thick trees, and they offered there their sacrifices, and there they presented the provocation of their offering; and there they placed their sweet savour, and there poured out their drink-offerings.

C'est que les ayant introduits au pays, touchant lequel j'avais levé ma main pour le leur donner, ils ont regardé toute haute colline, et tout arbre branchu, et ils y ont fait leurs sacrifices, ils y ont posé leur oblation pour m'irriter, ils y ont mis leurs parfums, et ils y ont répandu leurs aspersions.

29 And I said unto them, What is the high place whither ye go? And the name thereof is called Bamah unto this day.

Et je leur ai dit: que veulent dire ces hauts lieux auxquels vous allez? et toutefois leur nom a été appelé hauts lieux jusqu'à ce jour.

30 Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Do ye defile yourselves after the manner of your fathers? and do ye commit fornication after their abominations?

C'est pourquoi dis à la maison d'Israël: ainsi a dit le Seigneur l'Eternel: ne vous souillez-vous pas dans le train de vos pères, et ne vous prostituez-vous point à leurs idoles abominables?

31 And when ye offer your gifts, making your sons to pass through the fire, ye defile yourselves with all your idols, even unto this day; and shall I be inquired of by you, O house of Israel? [As] I live, saith the Lord Jehovah, I will not be inquired of by you.

Et en offrant vos dons, quand vous faites passer vos enfants par le feu; vous vous souillez par toutes vos idoles jusqu'à ce jour. Est-ce ainsi que vous me consultez, ô maison d'Israël? Je suis vivant, dit le Seigneur l'Eternel, que vous ne me consultez point.

32 And that which cometh into your mind shall not be at all, that ye say, We will be as the nations, as the families of the countries, in serving wood and stone.

Et ce que vous pensez n'arrivera nullement, en ce que vous dites: nous serons comme les nations, et comme les familles des pays, en servant le bois et la pierre.

33 [As] I live, saith the Lord Jehovah, verily with a mighty hand, and with an outstretched arm, and with fury poured out, will I reign over you.

Je suis vivant, dit le Seigneur l'Eternel, si je ne règne sur vous avec une main forte, et un bras étendu, et avec effusion de colère.

34 And I will bring you out from the peoples, and will gather you out of the countries wherein ye are scattered, with a mighty hand, and with an outstretched arm, and with fury poured out;

Et si je ne vous tire d'entre les peuples, et ne vous rassemble hors des pays dans lesquels vous aurez été dispersés avec une main forte, et un bras étendu et avec effusion de colère.

35 and I will bring you into the wilderness of the peoples, and there will I enter into judgment with you face to face.

Et si je ne vous fais venir au désert des peuples, et si je ne conteste là contre vous, face à face.

36 Like as I entered into judgment with your fathers in the wilderness of the land of Egypt, so will I enter into judgment with you, saith the Lord Jehovah.

Comme j'ai contesté contre vos pères au désert du pays d'Egypte, ainsi contesterai-je contre vous, dit le Seigneur l'Eternel.

37 And I will cause you to pass under the rod, and I will bring you into the bond of the covenant.

Et je vous ferai passer sous la verge, et vous ramènerai au lieu de l'alliance.

38 And I will purge out from among you the rebels, and them that transgress against me; I will bring them forth out of the country where they sojourn, but they shall not enter into the land of Israel: and ye shall know that I [am] Jehovah.

Et je mettrai à part d'entre vous les rebelles, et ceux qui se révoltent contre moi; [et] je les ferai sortir du pays auquel ils séjournent, mais ils n'entreront point en la terre d'Israël; et vous saurez que je suis l'Eternel.

39 As for you, O house of Israel, thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Go ye, serve every one his idols henceforth also, if none of you will hearken unto me; but profane my holy name no more with your gifts and with your idols.

Vous donc, ô maison d'Israël! ainsi a dit le Seigneur l'Eternel, allez, servez chacun vos idoles, même puisque vous ne me voulez pas écouter; aussi ne profanerez-vous plus le Nom de ma sainteté par vos dons, et par vos idoles.

40 For in my holy mountain, in the mountain of the height of Israel, saith the Lord Jehovah, there shall all the house of Israel serve me, the whole of it, in the land; there will I accept them, and there will I require your heave-offerings and the first-fruits of your offerings, with all your holy things.

Mais ce sera en ma sainte montagne, en la haute montagne d'Israël, dit le Seigneur l'Eternel, que toute la maison d'Israël me servira, dans toute cette terre; je prendrai là plaisir en eux, et là je demanderai vos offrandes élevées, et les prémices de vos dons, avec toutes vos choses sanctifiées.

41 As a sweet savour will I accept you, when I bring you out from the peoples, and gather you out of the countries wherein ye have been scattered; and I will be hallowed in you in the sight of the nations.

Je prendrai plaisir en vous par vos agréables odeurs, quand je vous aurai retirés d'entre les peuples, et que je vous aurai rassemblés des pays dans lesquels vous aurez été dispersés; et je serai sanctifié en vous, les nations le voyant.

42 And ye shall know that I [am] Jehovah, when I have brought you into the land of Israel, into the country which I lifted up my hand to give to your fathers.

Et vous saurez que je suis l'Eternel, quand je vous aurai fait revenir en la terre d'Israël, qui est le pays touchant lequel j'ai levé ma main pour le donner à vos pères.

43 And there shall ye remember your ways, and all your doings, wherein ye have been defiled; and ye shall loathe yourselves in your own sight for all your evils which ye have committed.

Et là vous vous souviendrez de vos voies, et de toutes vos actions, par lesquelles vous vous êtes souillés; et vous vous déplairez en vous-mêmes de tous vos maux que vous aurez faits.

44 And ye shall know that I [am] Jehovah, when I have wrought with you for my name's sake, not according to your wicked ways, nor according to your corrupt doings, O house of Israel, saith the Lord Jehovah.

Et vous saurez que je suis l'Eternel, par tout ce que j'aurai fait envers vous, à cause de mon Nom, et non pas selon vos méchantes voies, et vos actions corrompues, ô maison d'Israël! dit le Seigneur l'Eternel.

45 And the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying,

La parole de l'Eternel me fut encore [adressée], en disant:

46 Son of man, set thy face toward the south, and drop [words] against the south, and prophesy against the forest of the south field;

Fils d'homme, tourne ta face vers le chemin de Théman, et fais découler [ta parole] vers le Midi, et prophétise contre la forêt du champ du Midi.

47 and say to the forest of the south, Hear the word of Jehovah. Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Behold, I will kindle a fire in thee, and it shall devour every green tree in thee, and every dry tree: the flashing flame shall not be quenched; and all that it meets from the south to the north shall be burned thereby.

Et dis à la forêt du Midi: écoute la parole de l'Eternel. Ainsi a dit le Seigneur l'Eternel: voici, je m'en vais allumer au dedans de toi un feu qui consumera tout bois vert et tout bois sec au dedans de toi; la flamme de l'embrasement ne s'éteindra point, et tout le dessus en sera brûlé, depuis le Midi jusqu'au Septentrion.

48 And all flesh shall see that I Jehovah have kindled it: it shall not be quenched.

Et toute chair verra que moi l'Eternel j'y ai allumé le feu; [et] il ne s'éteindra point.

49 And I said, Ah, Lord Jehovah! they say of me, Doth he not speak parables?

Et je dis: ha! ha! Seigneur Eternel, ils disent de moi: n'est-il pas vrai que celui-ci ne fait que mettre en avant des similitudes?
