Ecclesiastes 6
1 There is an evil that I have seen under the sun, and it is frequent among men:
১সূর্য্যের নিচে একটা খারাপ আছে যা আমি দেখেছি এবং এটা মানুষের জন্য ভয়ানক।
2 one to whom God giveth riches, wealth, and honour, and he wanteth nothing for his soul of all that he desireth, yet God giveth him not power to eat thereof, but a stranger eateth it: this is vanity, and a sore evil.
২ঈশ্বর হয়তো কোন মানুষকে ধন, সম্পত্তি এবং সম্মান দেন যাতে সে যা আশা করে নিজের জন্য তার কোন কিছুরই অভাব না থাকে, কিন্তু তারপর ঈশ্বর তাকে তা ভোগ করার ক্ষমতা দেন না। বরং, অন্য কেউ তার জিনিস ভোগ করে। এটা অসার, একটা খারাপ কষ্ট।
3 If a man beget a hundred [sons], and live many years, so that the days of his years be many, but his soul be not filled with good, and also he have no burial, I say an untimely birth is better than he.
৩যদি কোন লোক একশো বাচ্চার পিতা হয় এবং বহু বছর বাঁচে, তাহলে তার জীবনের আয়ু বহু বছর, কিন্তু যদি তার হৃদয় মঙ্গলে তৃপ্ত না হয় এবং তার কবর যদি সম্মানের সঙ্গে না হয়, তাহলে আমি বলি যে সেই লোকের থেকে একটা বাচ্চা যে মরা জন্মেছে ভাল।
4 For it cometh in vanity, and departeth in darkness, and its name is covered with darkness;
৪এমনকি সেই রকম একটি বাচ্চা জন্মেছে অসারতায় এবং চলে গেছে অন্ধকারে এবং এমনকি তার নাম সেখানে থাকবে না।
5 moreover it hath not seen nor known the sun: this hath rest rather than the other.
৫যদিও এই বাচ্চা সূর্যকে দেখেনি অথবা কিছুই জানে না, যদিও এর বিশ্রাম আছে সেই মানুষটার বিশ্রাম নেই।
6 Yea, though he live twice a thousand years, yet hath he seen no good: do not all go to one place?
৬এমনকি যদিও কোন মানুষ দুহাজার বছর বাঁচে কিন্তু ভাল বিষয়ে আনন্দ করতে জানে না, সেও সেই একই জায়গায় যাবে যেমন সবাই যায়।
7 All the labour of man is for his mouth, and yet the appetite is not filled.
৭যদিও মানুষের সমস্ত কাজ তার মুখ পরিপূর্ণ করার জন্য, তবুও তার ক্ষিদে মেটে না।
8 For what advantage hath the wise above the fool? what hath the poor, that knoweth to walk before the living?
৮বাস্তবে, বোকা লোকের থেকে জ্ঞানী লোকের কি লাভ? গরিব লোকের কি সুবিধা থাকে এমনকি যদিও সে জানে অন্য লোকের সামনে কিরকম ব্যবহার করতে হয়?
9 Better is the seeing of the eyes than the wandering of the desire: this also is vanity and pursuit of the wind.
৯অসম্ভবকে পাওয়ার বাসনার চেয়ে যা কিছু চোখ দেখে তাতে সন্তুষ্ট হওয়া ভাল। সেটাও আসার এবং বাতাসকে পরিচালনা করার চেষ্টা।
10 That which is hath already been named; and what man is, is known, and that he cannot contend with him that is mightier than he.
১০যা কিছুর অস্তিত্ব আছে সেগুলোর নাম আগেই দেওয়া হয়েছে এবং মানবজাতি কিরকম তা ইতিমধ্যেই জানা গেছে। তাই এটা বেকার তার সঙ্গে তর্ক করা যিনি সবার পরাক্রমী বিচারক।
11 For there are many things that increase vanity: what is man advantaged?
১১অনেক কথা যা বলা হয়েছে, তত বেশি অসারতা বৃদ্ধি পেয়েছে, তাই কি সুবিধা একজন মানুষের?
12 For who knoweth what is good for man in life, all the days of his vain life which he spendeth as a shadow? for who can tell man what shall be after him under the sun?
১২কারণ কে জানে তার অসারতার দিনের কি ভাল মানুষের জন্য তার জীবনে, তার জীবনের দিন গুলো যার মধ্যে দিয়ে সে ছায়ার মত চলে যায়? কে মানুষকে বলতে পারে তার চলে যাওয়ার পরে কি আসবে সূর্য্যের নিচে?
