Deuteronomy 4
1 And now, Israel, hearken to the statutes and to the ordinances which I teach you, to do [them], that ye may live, and go in and possess the land which Jehovah the God of your fathers giveth you.
Şi acum dă ascultare, Israele, la statutele şi la judecăţile care vă învăţ, ca să le faceţi, ca să trăiţi şi să intraţi şi să stăpâniţi ţara pe care v-o dă DOMNUL Dumnezeul părinţilor voştri.
2 Ye shall not add to the word which I command you, neither shall ye take from it, that ye may keep the commandments of Jehovah your God which I command you.
Să nu adăugaţi la cuvântul pe care vi-l poruncesc eu, nici să nu scădeţi din el, ca să păziţi poruncile DOMNULUI Dumnezeul vostru pe care vi le poruncesc.
3 Your eyes have seen what Jehovah did because of Baal-Peor; for all the men that followed Baal-Peor, Jehovah thy God hath destroyed them from among you;
Ochii voştri au văzut ce a făcut DOMNUL din cauza lui Baal-Peor; DOMNUL Dumnezeul tău a nimicit dintre voi pe toţi bărbaţii care l-au urmat pe Baal-Peor.
4 but ye that did cleave to Jehovah your God are alive every one of you this day.
Dar voi, care v-aţi lipit de DOMNUL Dumnezeul vostru, sunteţi astăzi fiecare în viaţă.
5 See, I have taught you statutes and ordinances, even as Jehovah my God commanded me, that ye may do so in the land into which ye enter to possess it.
Iată, v-am învăţat statute şi judecăţi, precum mi-a poruncit DOMNUL Dumnezeul meu, ca astfel să faceţi în ţara în care intraţi să o stăpâniţi.
6 And ye shall keep and do them; for that will be your wisdom and your understanding before the eyes of the peoples that shall hear all these statutes, and say, Verily this great nation is a wise and understanding people.
Ţineţi-le de aceea şi faceţi-le, pentru că aceasta este înţelepciunea voastră şi înţelegerea voastră înaintea ochilor naţiunilor care vor auzi toate aceste statute şi vor spune: Cu adevărat această naţiune mare este un popor înţelept şi priceput.
7 For what great nation is there that hath God near to them as Jehovah our God is in everything we call upon him for?
Fiindcă ce naţiune este atât de mare şi să aibă pe Dumnezeu atât de aproape de ei, precum este DOMNUL Dumnezeul nostru în orice îl chemăm?
8 And what great nation is there that hath righteous statutes and ordinances, as all this law which I set before you this day?
Şi ce naţiune este atât de mare, încât să aibă statute şi judecăţi atât de drepte ca toată legea aceasta, pe care o pun în această zi înaintea voastră?
9 Only take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently, lest thou forget the things that thine eyes have seen (and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life; but thou shalt make them known to thy sons and to thy sons' sons),
Numai ia seama la tine însuţi şi păzeşte-ţi sufletul cu atenţie, ca nu cumva să uiţi lucrurile pe care ochii tăi le-au văzut, şi să se depărteze de inima ta în toate zilele vieţii tale, ci să le predai fiilor tăi şi fiilor fiilor tăi;
10 the day that thou stoodest before Jehovah thy God in Horeb, when Jehovah said to me, Gather me the people together, that I may cause them to hear my words, that they may learn them, and fear me all the days that they live upon the earth, and teach them to their children.
Mai ales în ziua când ai stat în picioare înaintea DOMNULUI Dumnezeul tău în Horeb, când DOMNUL mi-a spus: Adună-mi poporul şi îi voi face să audă cuvintele mele, ca să înveţe să se teamă de mine în toate zilele cât vor trăi pe pământ şi să îi înveţe pe copiii lor.
11 And ye came near and stood under the mountain; and the mountain burned with fire to the heart of heaven, with darkness, clouds, and obscurity.
Şi v-aţi apropiat şi aţi stat în picioare la poalele muntelui; şi muntele ardea cu foc până în inima cerului, cu întuneric, nori şi întuneric adânc.
12 And Jehovah spoke to you from the midst of the fire: ye heard the voice of the words, but ye saw no form; only [ye heard] a voice.
Şi DOMNUL v-a vorbit din mijlocul focului; aţi auzit vocea cuvintelor, dar nu aţi văzut nicio înfăţişare, aţi auzit numai o voce.
13 And he declared to you his covenant, which he commanded you to do, the ten words; and he wrote them on two tables of stone.
Şi el v-a spus legământul său, pe care v-a poruncit să îl împliniţi, adică cele zece porunci; şi le-a scris pe două table de piatră.
14 And Jehovah commanded me at that time to teach you statutes and ordinances, that ye might do them in the land whither ye are passing over to possess it.
Şi DOMNUL mi-a poruncit în acel timp să vă învăţ statute şi judecăţi, să le împliniţi în ţara în care treceţi să o stăpâniţi.
15 And take great heed to your souls (for ye saw no form on the day that Jehovah spoke to you in Horeb from the midst of the fire),
De aceea luaţi bine seama la voi, pentru că nu aţi văzut niciun fel de înfăţişare în ziua în care v-a vorbit DOMNUL în Horeb, din mijlocul focului,
16 lest ye corrupt yourselves, and make you a graven image, the form of any figure, the pattern of male or female,
Ca nu cumva să vă stricaţi şi să vă faceţi chip cioplit, înfăţişarea vreunui chip, asemănarea unei părţi bărbăteşti sau femeieşti,
17 the pattern of any beast that is on the earth, the pattern of any winged fowl that flieth in the heaven,
Asemănare a oricărui animal de pe pământ, asemănare a oricărei păsări înaripate care zboară în văzduh,
18 the pattern of anything that creepeth on the ground, the pattern of any fish that is in the waters under the earth;
Asemănare a oricărei târâtoare care se târăşte pe pământ, asemănare a oricărui peşte care este în apele de sub pământ,
19 and lest thou lift up thine eyes to the heavens, and see the sun, and the moon, and the stars, the whole host of heaven, and be drawn away and bow down to them and serve them, which Jehovah thy God hath assigned unto all peoples under the whole heaven.
Şi ca nu cumva să îţi ridici ochii spre cer şi când vezi soarele şi luna şi stelele, adică toată oştirea cerului, să fii împins să te închini la ele şi să le serveşti, celor pe care DOMNUL Dumnezeul tău le-a împărţit tuturor naţiunilor de sub tot cerul.
20 But you hath Jehovah taken, and hath brought you forth out of the iron furnace, out of Egypt, that ye might be to him a people of inheritance, as it is this day.
Dar DOMNUL v-a luat şi v-a scos din cuptorul de fier, din Egipt, să îi fiţi un popor al moştenirii, precum sunteţi în această zi.
21 And Jehovah was angry with me on your account, and swore that I should not go over the Jordan, and that I should not enter in to that good land which Jehovah thy God giveth thee [for] an inheritance;
Mai mult, DOMNUL s-a mâniat pe mine din cauza voastră şi a jurat că eu nu voi trece Iordanul şi nu voi intra în acea ţară bună, pe care DOMNUL Dumnezeul tău ţi-o dă ca moştenire,
22 for I shall die in this land, I shall not go over the Jordan; but ye shall go over, and possess this good land.
Ci eu trebuie să mor în ţara aceasta, nu trebuie să trec peste Iordan, dar voi să treceţi dincolo şi să stăpâniţi această ţară bună.
23 Take heed to yourselves lest ye forget the covenant of Jehovah your God, which he made with you, and make yourselves a graven image, the form of anything which Jehovah thy God hath forbidden thee.
Luaţi seama la voi înşivă, ca nu cumva să uitaţi legământul DOMNULUI Dumnezeul vostru, pe care l-a făcut cu voi, şi să vă faceţi un chip cioplit, sau asemănarea vreunui lucru, ceea ce DOMNUL Dumnezeul tău ţi-a interzis.
24 For Jehovah thy God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.
Fiindcă DOMNUL Dumnezeul tău este un foc mistuitor, un Dumnezeu gelos.
25 When thou begettest sons, and sons' sons, and ye have remained long in the land, and shall corrupt yourselves, and make a graven image, the form of anything, and do evil in the sight of Jehovah thy God, to provoke him to anger,
După ce vei naşte copii şi copii ai copiilor şi după ce veţi fi rămas mult în ţară şi vă veţi strica şi vă veţi face un chip cioplit, sau o asemănare a ceva, şi veţi face rău înaintea DOMNULUI Dumnezeul tău, pentru a-l provoca la mânie;
26 I call heaven and earth to witness against you this day, that ye shall soon utterly perish from off the land whereunto ye pass over the Jordan to possess it: ye shall not prolong your days on it, but shall be utterly destroyed.
Iau astăzi cerul şi pământul ca martori împotriva voastră, că veţi pieri curând în întregime din ţara în care treceţi Iordanul, ca să o stăpâniţi; nu vă veţi lungi zilele în ea, ci veţi fi nimiciţi în întregime.
27 And Jehovah will scatter you among the peoples, and ye shall be left a small company among the nations to which Jehovah will lead you.
Şi DOMNUL vă va împrăştia printre naţiuni şi veţi rămâne puţini la număr printre păgânii, la care DOMNUL vă va conduce.
28 And ye shall there serve gods, the work of men's hands, wood and stone, which neither see, nor hear, nor eat, nor smell.
Şi acolo veţi servi unor dumnezei, lucrarea mâinilor oamenilor, lemn şi piatră, care nici nu văd, nici nu aud, nici nu mănâncă, nici nu miros.
29 And from thence ye shall seek Jehovah thy God, and thou shalt find him, if thou shalt seek him with thy whole heart and with thy whole soul.
Dar dacă de acolo vei căuta pe DOMNUL Dumnezeul tău, îl vei găsi, dacă îl vei căuta cu toată inima ta şi cu tot sufletul tău.
30 In thy tribulation, and when all these things shall come upon thee, at the end of days, thou shalt return to Jehovah thy God, and shalt hearken to his voice,
Când vei fi în necaz şi toate aceste lucruri vor fi venit asupra ta, în zilele de pe urmă, dacă te întorci la DOMNUL Dumnezeul tău şi vei face ce porunceşte vocea lui;
31 — for Jehovah thy God is a merciful God, — he will not forsake thee, neither destroy thee, nor forget the covenant of thy fathers which he swore unto them.
(Pentru că DOMNUL Dumnezeul tău este un Dumnezeu milostiv), el nu te va părăsi, nici nu te va nimici, nici nu va uita legământul părinţilor tăi pe care li l-a jurat.
32 For ask now of the days that are past, which were before thee, since the day that God created man on the earth, and from one end of the heavens to the other end of the heavens, whether there hath been anything as this great thing is, or if anything hath been heard like it?
Pentru că, întreabă acum despre zilele care au trecut, care au fost înainte de tine, din ziua în care l-a creat Dumnezeu pe om pe pământ şi întreabă de la o margine a cerului până la cealaltă, dacă a mai fost ceva ca acest lucru mare, sau dacă s-a mai auzit altceva asemenea lui?
33 Did [ever] people hear the voice of God speaking from the midst of the fire, as thou hast heard, and live?
A mai auzit vreun popor vocea lui Dumnezeu vorbind din mijlocul focului, precum ai auzit tu, şi să trăiască?
34 Or hath God essayed to come to take him a nation from the midst of a nation, by trials, by signs, and by wonders, and by war, and by a powerful hand, and by a stretched-out arm, and by great terrors, according to all that Jehovah your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes?
Sau a încercat Dumnezeu să meargă şi să îşi ia o naţiune din mijlocul altei naţiuni, prin ispitiri, prin semne şi prin minuni şi prin război şi printr-o mână tare şi printr-un braţ întins şi prin mari înfricoşări, conform cu tot ce a făcut DOMNUL Dumnezeul vostru pentru voi în Egipt înaintea ochilor tăi?
35 Unto thee it was shewn, that thou mightest know that Jehovah, he is God — there is none other besides him.
Ţie ţi s-a arătat, ca să cunoşti că DOMNUL, el este Dumnezeu, nu este altul în afară de el.
36 From the heavens he made thee hear his voice, that he might instruct thee; and on the earth he shewed thee his great fire; and thou heardest his words from the midst of the fire.
Din cer te-a făcut să auzi vocea lui, ca să te instruiască şi pe pământ ţi-a arătat focul său cel mare; şi ai auzit cuvintele lui din mijlocul focului.
37 And because he loved thy fathers, and chose their seed after them, he brought thee out with his countenance, with his great power, out of Egypt,
Şi pentru că a iubit pe părinţii tăi, de aceea a ales sămânţa lor după ei şi te-a scos din Egipt înaintea vederii lui cu puterea lui cea mare;
38 to dispossess nations from before thee greater and mightier than thou art, to bring thee in, to give thee their land for an inheritance, as it is this day.
Ca să alunge dinaintea ta naţiuni mai mari şi mai puternice decât tine, ca să te aducă înăuntru, să îţi dea ţara lor ca moştenire, precum este în ziua aceasta.
39 Thou shalt know therefore this day, and consider it in thy heart, that Jehovah, he is God in the heavens above, and on the earth beneath: [there is] none else.
Să ştii dar astăzi şi ia aminte în inima ta, că DOMNUL, el este Dumnezeu în cer deasupra şi peste pământul de jos, nu este altul.
40 And thou shalt keep his statutes, and his commandments, which I command thee this day, that it may be well with thee and with thy sons after thee, and that thou mayest prolong thy days on the land which Jehovah thy God giveth thee, for ever.
Să ţii de aceea statutele lui şi poruncile lui, pe care ţi le poruncesc astăzi, ca să îţi fie bine, ţie şi copiilor tăi după tine, şi să îţi lungeşti zilele tale pe pământul, pe care DOMNUL Dumnezeul tău ţi-l dă ţie pentru totdeauna.
41 Then Moses separated three cities on this side the Jordan toward the sun-rising,
Atunci Moise a despărţit trei cetăţi de partea aceasta a Iordanului, spre răsăritul soarelui,
42 that the manslayer might flee thither, who should kill his neighbour unawares, and hated him not previously, that fleeing to one of these cities, he might live:
Ca ucigaşul, care l-a ucis fără intenţie pe aproapele său şi nu l-a urât mai înainte, să fugă acolo; şi fugind într-una din aceste cetăţi, să trăiască,
43 Bezer in the wilderness, in the plateau, of the Reubenites, and Ramoth in Gilead, of the Gadites, and Golan in Bashan, of the Manassites.
Adică, Beţer în pustiu, în ţinutul podişului, pentru rubeniţi; şi Ramotul în Galaad, pentru gadiţi; şi Golan în Basan, pentru manasiţi.
44 And this is the law which Moses set before the children of Israel:
Şi aceasta este legea pe care a pus-o Moise înaintea copiilor lui Israel,
45 these are the testimonies, and the statutes, and the ordinances that Moses declared to the children of Israel, when they came out of Egypt,
Acestea sunt mărturiile şi statutele şi judecăţile, pe care Moise le-a vorbit copiilor lui Israel, după ce au ieşit din Egipt,
46 on this side the Jordan, in the valley opposite to Beth-Peor, in the land of Sihon the king of the Amorites, who dwelt in Heshbon, whom Moses and the children of Israel smote when they came out of Egypt;
De această parte a Iordanului, în valea din dreptul Bet-Peorului, în ţara lui Sihon, împăratul amoriţilor, care locuia la Hesbon, pe care Moise şi copiii lui Israel l-au bătut, după ce au ieşit din Egipt,
47 and they took possession of his land, and the land of Og the king of Bashan, two kings of the Amorites, who were on this side the Jordan, toward the sun-rising;
Şi au stăpânit ţara lui şi ţara lui Og, împăratul Basanului, doi împăraţi ai amoriţilor, care erau dincoace de Iordan, spre răsăritul soarelui;
48 from Aroer, which is on the bank of the river Arnon, as far as mount Sion, which is Hermon,
De la Aroer, care este pe malul râului Arnon, până la Muntele Sion, care este Hermon,
49 and all the plain on this side the Jordan, eastward, and as far as the sea of the plain, under the slopes of Pisgah.
Şi toată câmpia de dincoace de Iordan spre est, chiar până la marea câmpiei, sub izvoarele lui Pisga.
