Deuteronomy 19
1 When Jehovah thy God hath cut off the nations whose land Jehovah thy God giveth thee, and thou hast dispossessed them, and dwellest in their cities and in their houses,
Mikor kiírtja az Úr, a te Istened a nemzeteket, a kiknek földjét néked adja az Úr, a te Istened, és bírni fogod őket, és lakozol az ő városaikban és az ő házaikban:
2 thou shalt separate three cities for thyself in the midst of thy land, which Jehovah thy God giveth thee to possess.
Válaszsz ki magadnak három várost a te földeden, a melyet az Úr, a te Istened ád néked, hogy örököljed azt.
3 Thou shalt prepare thee the way, and divide the territory of thy land, which Jehovah thy God giveth thee to inherit, into three parts, so that every slayer may flee thither.
Készítsd meg magadnak az utat azokhoz, és oszszad három részre a te országod határát, a melyet az Úr, a te Istened ád néked örökségül; azok arra valók legyenek, hogy minden gyilkos oda meneküljön.
4 And this is the case of the slayer who shall flee thither that he may live: he that smiteth his neighbour unwittingly, whom he hated not previously;
Ez pedig a gyilkos törvénye, a ki oda menekül, hogy élve maradjon: A ki nem szándékosan öli meg az ő felebarátját, és nem gyűlöli vala azt azelőtt;
5 as when he goeth into the wood with his neighbour to hew wood, and his hand fetcheth a stroke with the axe to cut down the tree, and the iron slippeth from the handle, and lighteth upon his neighbour, that he die; such an one shall flee unto one of these cities, and live;
A ki például elmegy az ő felebarátjával az erdőre fát vágni, és meglódul a keze a fejszével, hogy levágja a fát, és leesik a vas a nyeléről, és úgy találja az ő felebarátját, hogy az meghal: az ilyen meneküljön e városok egyikébe, hogy élve maradjon.
6 lest the avenger of blood pursue the manslayer, while his heart is hot, and overtake him, because the way is long, and smite him mortally; whereas he was not worthy of death, since he hated him not previously.
Különben a vérbosszuló rokon űzőbe veszi az ő szívének búsulásában, és eléri, ha az út hosszú leend, és agyon üti őt, holott nem méltó a halálra, mivel azelőtt nem gyűlölte azt.
7 Therefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt separate three cities for thyself.
Azért én parancsolom néked, mondván: Három várost válaszsz magadnak.
8 And if Jehovah thy God enlarge thy border, as he hath sworn unto thy fathers, and give thee all the land which he promised to give unto thy fathers
Ha pedig az Úr, a te Istened kiterjeszti a te határodat, a mint megesküdt a te atyáidnak, és néked adja mind az egész földet, a melynek megadását megígérte volt a te atyáidnak;
9 (if thou keep all this commandment to do it, which I command thee this day, to love Jehovah thy God, and to walk in his ways continually), then shalt thou add three cities more for thyself to these three,
(Hogyha megtartod mind e parancsolatot, megtévén azt, a mit én ma parancsolok néked, tudniillik, hogy szeressed az Urat, a te Istenedet, és járj az ő utain minden időben): akkor e háromhoz szerezz még három várost.
10 that innocent blood be not shed in the midst of thy land which Jehovah thy God giveth thee for an inheritance, and blood come not upon thee.
Hogy ártatlan vér ne ontassék ki a te földeden, a melyet az Úr, a te Istened ád néked örökségül, és hogy a vér ne legyen rajtad.
11 But if a man hate his neighbour, and lie in wait for him, and rise up against him, and smite him mortally that he die, and he flee into one of these cities,
De hogyha lesz valaki, a ki gyűlöli az ő felebarátját, és meglesi azt, és reá támad és úgy üti meg, hogy meghal, és bemenekül valamelyikbe e városok közül:
12 then the elders of his city shall send and fetch him thence, and deliver him into the hand of the avenger of blood, that he may die.
Akkor az ő városának vénei küldjenek embereket, és vonják ki azt onnét, és adják azt a vérbosszúló rokon kezébe, hogy meghaljon.
13 Thine eye shall not spare him; and thou shalt put away innocent blood from Israel, that it may be well with thee.
Ne nézz reá szánalommal, hanem tisztítsd ki az ártatlan vérontást Izráelből, hogy jól legyen dolgod.
14 Thou shalt not remove thy neighbour's landmark, which they of old time have fixed in thine inheritance, which thou shalt inherit in the land which Jehovah thy God giveth thee to possess.
A te felebarátodnak határát el ne told, a mely határt az ősök vetettek a te örökségedben, a melyet örökölni fogsz azon a földön, a melyet az Úr, a te Istened ád néked, hogy bírjad azt.
15 One witness shall not rise up against a man for any iniquity, and for any sin, in any sin that he sinneth: at the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall a matter be established.
Ne álljon elő egy tanú senki ellen semmiféle hamisság és semmiféle bűn miatt; akármilyen bűnben bűnös valaki, két tanú szavára vagy három tanú szavára álljon a dolog.
16 If an unrighteous witness rise up against any man to testify against him of an offence;
Ha valaki ellen gonosz tanú áll elő, hogy pártütéssel vádolja őt:
17 then both the men between whom the controversy is shall stand before Jehovah, before the priests and the judges that shall be in those days;
Akkor álljon az a két ember, a kiknek ilyen perök van, az Úr elé, a papok és a bírák elé, a kik abban az időben lesznek;
18 and the judges shall make thorough inquiry; and if the witness be a false witness, and he have testified falsely against his brother,
És a bírák vizsgálják meg jól a dolgot, és ha hazug tanú lesz a tanú, a ki hazugságot szólott az ő atyjafia ellen:
19 then shall ye do unto him as he had thought to have done unto his brother; and thou shalt put evil away from thy midst.
Úgy cselekedjetek azzal, a mint ő szándékozott cselekedni az ő atyjafiával. Így tisztítsd ki közüled a gonoszt;
20 And those that remain shall hear, and fear, and shall henceforth commit no more any such evil in thy midst.
Hogy a kik megmaradnak, hallják meg, és féljenek, és többször ne cselekedjenek te közötted ilyen gonosz dolgot.
21 And thine eye shall not spare: life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.
Ne nézz reá szánalommal; lelket lélekért, szemet szemért, fogat fogért, kezet kézért, lábat lábért.
