Deuteronomy 17
1 Thou shalt not sacrifice to Jehovah thy God an ox or sheep wherein is a defect, or anything bad; for it is an abomination to Jehovah thy God.
Tu ne sacrifieras à l'Eternel ton Dieu ni bœuf, ni brebis ou chèvre qui ait en soi quelque tare, [ou] quelque défaut; car c'est une abomination à l'Eternel ton Dieu.
2 If there be found in thy midst in any of thy gates which Jehovah thy God giveth thee, man or woman, that doeth what is evil in the sight of Jehovah thy God, in transgressing his covenant,
Quand il se trouvera au milieu de toi dans quelqu'une de tes villes que l'Eternel ton Dieu te donne, soit homme ou femme qui fasse ce qui est odieux à l'Eternel ton Dieu, en transgressant son alliance;
3 and goeth and serveth other gods, and boweth down to them, either to the sun or to the moon, or to the whole host of heaven, which I have not commanded;
Et qui aille, et serve d'autres dieux, et se prosterne devant eux, soit devant le soleil, ou devant la lune, ou devant toute l'armée du ciel, ce que je n'ai pas commandé;
4 and it be told thee, and thou hearest of it; then thou shalt make thorough inquiry, and if it be truth [and] the thing be certain, that this abomination hath been wrought in Israel,
Et que cela t'aura été rapporté, et que tu [l']auras appris, alors tu t'en enquerras exactement, et si tu trouves que ce qu'on a dit soit véritable, et qu'il soit certain qu'une telle abomination ait été faite en Israël;
5 thou shalt bring forth that man or that woman, who committed that wicked thing, unto thy gates, the man or the woman, and shalt stone them with stones, that they die.
Alors tu feras sortir vers tes portes cet homme ou cette femme, qui auront fait cette méchante action; cet homme, [dis-je], ou cette femme, et tu les assommeras de pierres, et ils mourront.
6 At the mouth of two witnesses, or three witnesses, shall he that is to die be put to death: he shall not be put to death at the mouth of one witness.
On fera mourir sur la parole de deux ou de trois témoins, celui qui doit être puni de mort, [mais] on ne le fera pas mourir sur la parole d'un seul témoin.
7 The hands of the witnesses shall be first upon him to put him to death, and afterwards the hands of all the people; and thou shalt put evil away from thy midst.
La main des témoins sera la première sur lui pour le faire mourir, ensuite la main de tout le peuple; et ainsi tu ôteras ce méchant du milieu de toi.
8 If there arise a matter too hard for thee in judgment, between blood and blood, between cause and cause, and between stroke and stroke, matters of controversy within thy gates, then shalt thou arise, and go up to the place which Jehovah thy God will choose.
Quand une affaire te paraîtra trop difficile, pour juger entre meurtre et meurtre, entre cause et cause, entre plaie et plaie, qui sont des affaires de procès dans tes portes; alors tu te lèveras, et tu monteras au lieu que l'Eternel ton Dieu aura choisi;
9 And thou shalt come unto the priests, the Levites, and unto the judge that shall be in those days, and inquire; and they shall declare unto thee the sentence of judgment;
Et tu viendras aux Sacrificateurs qui sont de la race de Lévi, et au juge qui sera en ce temps-là, et tu les interrogeras, et ils te déclareront ce que porte le droit.
10 and thou shalt do according to the tenor of the word, which they of that place which Jehovah will choose shall declare unto thee; and thou shalt take heed to do according to all that they instruct thee:
Et tu feras de point en point ce qu'ils t'auront déclaré du lieu que l'Eternel aura choisi, et tu prendras garde à faire tout ce qu'ils t'auront enseigné.
11 according to the sentence of the law which they shall declare unto thee, and according to the judgment which they shall tell thee, thou shalt do: thou shalt not decline from the word which they shall declare unto thee, to the right hand, or the left.
Tu feras de point en point ce que dit la loi qu'ils t'auront enseignée, et selon le droit qu'ils t'auront déclaré, et tu ne te détourneras ni à droite ni à gauche, de ce qu'ils t'auront dit.
12 And the man that shall act presumptuously, and not hearken unto the priest that standeth to serve there before Jehovah thy God, or unto the judge, that man shall die; and thou shalt put away evil from Israel.
Mais l'homme qui agissant fièrement, n'aura point voulu obéir au Sacrificateur qui se tiendra là pour servir l'Eternel ton Dieu, ou au Juge, cet homme-là mourra, et tu ôteras ce méchant d'Israël.
13 And all the people shall hear, and fear, and no more act presumptuously.
Afin que tout le peuple l'entende et qu'il craigne, et qu'à l'avenir il n'agisse point fièrement.
14 When thou comest unto the land which Jehovah thy God giveth thee, and shalt possess it, and shalt dwell therein, and shalt say, I will set a king over me, like all the nations that are about me;
Quand tu seras entré au pays que l'Eternel ton Dieu te donne, et que tu le posséderas, et y demeureras, si tu dis: J'établirai un Roi sur moi, comme toutes les nations qui sont autour de moi;
15 thou shalt only set him king over thee whom Jehovah thy God will choose: from among thy brethren shalt thou set a king over thee; thou mayest not set a foreigner over thee, who is not thy brother.
Tu ne manqueras pas de t'établir pour Roi celui que l'Eternel ton Dieu aura choisi; tu t'établiras pour Roi un homme qui soit d'entre tes frères; et tu ne pourras point établir sur toi un homme, qui ne soit pas ton frère.
16 Only he shall not multiply horses to himself, nor lead back the people to Egypt, to multiply horses; for Jehovah hath said unto you, Ye shall not return again any more that way.
Seulement il ne fera point un amas de chevaux, et il ne ramènera point le peuple en Egypte pour faire un amas de chevaux; car l'Eternel vous a dit: Vous ne retournerez jamais plus dans ce chemin-là.
17 Neither shall he multiply wives to himself, that his heart turn not away; neither shall he greatly multiply to himself silver and gold.
Il ne prendra point aussi plusieurs femmes, afin que son cœur ne se corrompe point; et il ne s'amassera point beaucoup d'argent, ni beaucoup d'or.
18 And it shall be, when he sitteth upon the throne of his kingdom, that he shall write for himself a copy of this law in a book out of that which is before the priests, the Levites;
Et dès qu'il sera assis sur le trône de son Royaume, il écrira pour soi dans un livre un double de cette Loi, [laquelle il prendra] des Sacrificateurs qui sont de la race de Lévi.
19 and it shall be with him, and he shall read therein all the days of his life; that he may learn to fear Jehovah his God, to keep all the words of this law and these statutes, to do them;
Et ce livre demeurera par-devers lui, et il y lira tous les jours de sa vie; afin qu'il apprenne à craindre l'Eternel son Dieu, [et] à prendre garde à toutes les paroles de cette Loi, et à ces statuts, pour les faire.
20 that his heart be not lifted up above his brethren, and that he turn not aside from the commandment, to the right hand, or to the left; that he may prolong his days in his kingdom, he, and his sons, in the midst of Israel.
Afin que son cœur ne s'élève point par dessus ses frères, et qu'il ne se détourne point de ce commandement ni à droite ni à gauche; [et] afin qu'il prolonge ses jours en son règne, lui et ses fils, au milieu d'Israël.
