Acts 1
1 I composed the first discourse, O Theophilus, concerning all things which Jesus began both to do and to teach,
J'ai consigné dans mon premier écrit, ô Théophile, tout ce que Jésus avait commencé de faire et d'enseigner
2 until that day in which, having by the Holy Spirit charged the apostles whom he had chosen, he was taken up;
jusques au jour où, après avoir donné par l'esprit saint ses ordres aux apôtres qu'il avait choisis, il fut enlevé.
3 to whom also he presented himself living, after he had suffered, with many proofs; being seen by them during forty days, and speaking of the things which concern the kingdom of God;
Déjà, après sa passion, il leur avait fait voir par plusieurs indices qu'il était vivant, leur apparaissant pendant quarante jours, et leur parlant de ce qui concerne le royaume de Dieu.
4 and, being assembled with [them], commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to await the promise of the Father, which [said he] ye have heard of me.
Et, pendant qu'il se trouvait avec eux, il leur ordonna de ne point s'éloigner de Jérusalem, mais d'y attendre la promesse du Père, « dont vous m'avez entendu parler;
5 For John indeed baptised with water, but ye shall be baptised with the Holy Spirit after now not many days.
car, si Jean a baptisé avec de l'eau, pour vous, vous serez baptisés avec l'esprit saint, dans peu de jours d'ici. »
6 They therefore, being come together, asked him saying, Lord, is it at this time that thou restorest the kingdom to Israel?
Se trouvant donc réunis, ils l'interrogèrent en disant: « Seigneur, est-ce en ce temps-là que tu dois rétablir le royaume d'Israël? »
7 And he said to them, It is not yours to know times or seasons, which the Father has placed in his own authority;
Il leur dit: « Il ne vous appartient pas de connaître les temps ou les époques que le Père a fixés de Sa propre autorité,
8 but ye will receive power, the Holy Spirit having come upon you, and ye shall be my witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.
mais, quand le saint esprit sera venu sur vous, vous serez revêtus de puissance, et vous serez mes témoins, soit à Jérusalem, soit dans la Judée et la Samarie, et jusques à l'extrémité de la terre. »
9 And having said these things he was taken up, they beholding [him], and a cloud received him out of their sight.
Et, après avoir ainsi parlé, il fut enlevé pendant qu'eux-mêmes regardaient, et une nuée le déroba à leurs yeux;
10 And as they were gazing into heaven, as he was going, behold, also two men stood by them in white clothing,
et, comme leurs regards étaient fixés sur le ciel pendant qu'il s'éloignait, voici, deux hommes vêtus d'habits blancs s'étaient approchés d'eux,
11 who also said, Men of Galilee, why do ye stand looking into heaven? This Jesus who has been taken up from you into heaven, shall thus come in the manner in which ye have beheld him going into heaven.
et leur dirent: « Galiléens, pourquoi vous tenez-vous là à regarder le ciel? Ce Jésus, qui vient d'être enlevé du milieu de vous dans le ciel, reviendra de la même manière dont vous l'avez vu monter au ciel. »
12 Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called [the mount] of Olives, which is near Jerusalem, a sabbath-day's journey off.
Alors ils retournèrent à Jérusalem en quittant la montagne appelée le Bois d'oliviers, qui est près de Jérusalem, à la distance d'un chemin de sabbat.
13 And when they were come into [the city], they went up to the upper chamber, where were staying both Peter, and John, and James, and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James [son] of Alphaeus, and Simon the zealot, and Jude [the brother] of James.
Et, lorsqu'ils furent entrés, ils montèrent dans la chambre haute où ils demeuraient, à savoir Pierre et Jean et Jacques et André, Philippe et Thomas, Barthélemi et Matthieu, Jacques fils d'Alphée et Simon le zélote et Judas fils de Jacques.
14 These gave themselves all with one accord to continual prayer, with [several] women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.
Tous ceux-là étaient ensemble assidus à la prière, avec des femmes et Marie la mère de Jésus, et avec ses frères.
15 And in those days Peter, standing up in the midst of the brethren, said, (the crowd of names [who were] together [was] about a hundred and twenty, )
Et ce fut en ces jours-là que Pierre, s'étant levé au milieu des frères, dit (et le nombre des personnes réunies était d'environ cent vingt):
16 Brethren, it was necessary that the scripture should have been fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit spoke before, by the mouth of David, concerning Judas, who became guide to those who took Jesus;
« Frères, il fallait que fût accomplie la parole de l'Écriture qu'a d'avance proférée l'esprit saint par la bouche de David, relativement à Judas qui a été le guide de ceux qui ont saisi Jésus,
17 for he was numbered amongst us, and had received a part in this service.
car il était compté parmi nous, et il a eu sa part de ce ministère;
18 (This [man] then indeed got a field with [the] reward of iniquity, and, having fallen down headlong, burst in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out.
c'est lui qui a acheté un champ avec le prix de son crime; puis, étant tombé sur le visage, il a éclaté par le milieu et toutes ses entrailles se sont répandues;
19 And it was known to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that that field was called in their own dialect Aceldama; that is, field of blood.)
ceci a été su de tous les habitants de Jérusalem, en sorte qu'on a appelé ce champ dans leur idiome Akeldamach, ce qui signifie champ du sang.
20 For it is written in [the] book of Psalms, Let his homestead become desolate, and let there be no dweller in it; and, Let another take his overseership.
En effet il est écrit dans le livre des Psaumes: « Que son gîte devienne désert, et qu'il n'y ait personne qui l'habite! et: « Qu'un autre reçoive sa charge de surveillant! »
21 It is necessary therefore, that of the men who have assembled with us all [the] time in which the Lord Jesus came in and went out among us,
Il faut donc que l'un des hommes qui ont été avec nous pendant tout le temps où le seigneur Jésus a été en rapport avec nous,
22 beginning from the baptism of John until the day in which he was taken up from us, one of these should be a witness with us of his resurrection.
à partir du baptême de Jean jusques au jour où il a été enlevé du milieu de nous, devienne avec nous un témoin de sa résurrection. »
23 And they appointed two, Joseph, who was called Barsabas, who had been surnamed Justus, and Matthias.
Et ils en proposèrent deux: Josès appelé Barsabbas, qui était surnommé Justus, et Matthias;
24 And they prayed, and said, Thou Lord, knower of the hearts of all, shew which one of these two thou hast chosen,
et ils firent cette prière: « O Toi, Seigneur, qui connais tous les cœurs, montre-nous lequel de ces deux hommes Tu as choisi
25 to receive the lot of this service and apostleship, from which Judas transgressing fell to go to his own place.
pour occuper, dans ce ministère et cet apostolat, la place dont Judas est sorti pour aller dans la place qui lui appartient. »
26 And they gave lots on them, and the lot fell on Matthias, and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.
Et ils leur donnèrent des bulletins, et le sort tomba sur Matthias, et il fut agrégé aux onze apôtres.
