Acts 27
1 But when it had been determined that we should sail to Italy, they delivered up Paul and certain other prisoners to a centurion, by name Julius, of Augustus' company.
Or après qu'il eut été résolu que nous naviguerions en Italie, ils remirent Paul avec quelques autres prisonniers à un nommé Jule, centenier d'une cohorte [de la Légion]appelée Auguste.
2 And going on board a ship of Adramyttium about to navigate by the places along Asia, we set sail, Aristarchus, a Macedonian of Thessalonica, being with us.
Et étant montés dans un navire d'Adramite, nous partîmes pour tirer vers les quartiers d'Asie, et Aristarque Macédonien [de la ville] de Thessalonique, était avec nous.
3 And the next day we arrived at Sidon. And Julius treated Paul kindly and suffered him to go to his friends and refresh himself.
Le jour suivant nous arrivâmes à Sidon; et Jules traitant humainement Paul, lui permit d'aller vers ses amis, afin qu'ils eussent soin de lui.
4 And setting sail thence we sailed under the lee of Cyprus, because the winds were contrary.
Puis étant partis de là, nous tînmes notre route au-dessous de Cypre, parce que les vents étaient contraires.
5 And having sailed over the waters of Cilicia and Pamphylia we came to Myra in Lycia:
Et après avoir passé la mer qui est vis-à-vis de la Cilicie et de la Pamphylie, nous vînmes à Myra, [ville] de Lycie,
6 and there the centurion having found a ship of Alexandria sailing to Italy, he made us go on board her.
Où le centenier trouva un navire d'Alexandrie qui allait en Italie, dans lequel il nous fit monter.
7 And sailing slowly for many days, and having with difficulty got abreast of Cnidus, the wind not suffering us, we sailed under the lee of Crete abreast of Salmone;
Et comme nous naviguions pesamment durant plusieurs jours, en sorte qu'à grande peine pûmes-nous arriver jusques à la vue de Guide, parce que le vent ne nous poussait point, nous passâmes au-dessous de Crète, vers Salmone.
8 and coasting it with difficulty we came to a certain place called Fair Havens, near to which was [the] city of Lasaea.
Et la côtoyant avec peine, nous vînmes en un lieu qui est appelé Beaux-ports, près duquel était la ville de Lasée.
9 And much time having now been spent, and navigation being already dangerous, because the fast also was already past, Paul counselled them,
Et parce qu'il s'était écoulé beaucoup de temps, et que la navigation était déjà périlleuse, vu que même le jeûne était déjà passé, Paul les exhortait,
10 saying, Men, I perceive that the navigation will be with disaster and much loss, not only of the cargo and the ship, but also of our lives.
En leur disant: hommes, je vois que la navigation sera périlleuse et que nous serons exposés non seulement à la perte de la charge du vaisseau, mais même de nos propres vies.
11 But the centurion believed rather the helmsman and the shipowner than what was said by Paul.
Mais le centenier croyait plus le Pilote, et le maître du navire, que ce que Paul disait.
12 And the harbour being ill adapted to winter in, the most counselled to set sail thence, if perhaps they might reach Phoenice to winter in, a port of Crete looking north-east and south-east.
Et parce que le port n'était pas propre pour y passer l'hiver, la plupart furent d'avis de partir de là, pour [tâcher] d'aborder à Phénix, qui est un port de Crète, situé contre le vent d'Afrique et du couchant septentrional, afin d'y passer l'hiver.
13 And [the] south wind blowing gently, supposing that they had gained their object, having weighed anchor they sailed close in shore along Crete.
Et le vent du Midi commençant à souffler doucement, ils crurent venir à bout de leur dessein, et étant partis, ils côtoyèrent Crète de plus près.
14 But not long after there came down it a hurricane called Euroclydon.
Mais un peu après un vent orageux [du nord-est], qu'on appelle Euroclydon, se leva du côté de l'île.
15 And the ship being caught and driven, and not able to bring her head to the wind, letting her go we were driven [before it].
Et le navire étant emporté par le vent, de telle sorte qu'il ne pouvait point résister, nous fûmes emportés, ayant abandonné [le navire au vent].
16 But running under the lee of a certain island called Clauda, we were with difficulty able to make ourselves masters of the boat;
Et ayant passé au-dessous d'une petite île, appelée Clauda, à grande peine pûmes-nous être maîtres de l'esquif;
17 which having hoisted up, they used helps, frapping the ship; and fearing lest they should run into Syrtis and run aground, and having lowered the gear they were so driven.
Mais l'ayant tirée à nous, les [matelots] cherchaient tous les remèdes possibles, en liant le navire par-dessous; et comme ils craignaient de tomber sur des bancs de sable, ils abattirent les voiles, et ils étaient portés de cette manière.
18 But the storm being extremely violent on us, on the next day they threw cargo overboard,
Or parce que nous étions agités d'une grande tempête, le jour suivant ils jetèrent les marchandises dans la mer.
19 and on the third day with their own hands they cast away the ship furniture.
Puis le troisième jour nous jetâmes de nos propres mains les agrès du navire.
20 And neither sun nor stars appearing for many days, and no small storm lying on us, in the end all hope of our being saved was taken away.
Et comme il ne nous parut durant plusieurs jours ni soleil ni étoiles, et qu'une grande tempête nous agitait violemment, toute espérance de nous pouvoir sauver à l'avenir nous fut ôtée.
21 And when they had been a long while without taking food, Paul then standing up in the midst of them said, Ye ought, O men, to have hearkened to me, and not have made sail from Crete and have gained this disaster and loss.
Mais après qu'ils eurent été longtemps sans manger, Paul se tenant alors debout au milieu d'eux, leur dit: ô hommes! certes il fallait me croire, et ne point partir de Crète, afin d'éviter cette tempête et cette perte.
22 And now I exhort you to be of good courage, for there shall be no loss at all of life of [any] of you, only of the ship.
Mais maintenant je vous exhorte d'avoir bon courage: car nul de vous ne perdra la vie, et le navire seul périra.
23 For an angel of the God, whose I am and whom I serve, stood by me this night,
Car en cette propre nuit un Ange du Dieu à qui je suis, et lequel je sers, s'est présenté à moi,
24 saying, Fear not, Paul; thou must stand before Caesar; and behold, God has granted to thee all those that sail with thee.
[Me] disant: Paul, ne crains point, il faut que tu sois présenté à César; et voici, Dieu t'a donné tous ceux qui naviguent avec toi.
25 Wherefore be of good courage, men, for I believe God that thus it shall be, as it has been said to me.
C'est pourquoi, ô hommes! ayez bon courage, car j'ai cette confiance en Dieu que la chose arrivera comme elle m'a été dite.
26 But we must be cast ashore on a certain island.
Mais il faut que nous soyons jetés contre quelque île.
27 And when the fourteenth night was come, we being driven about in Adria, towards the middle of the night the sailors supposed that some land neared them,
Quand donc la quatorzième nuit fut venue, comme nous étions portés çà et là sur la mer Adriatique, les matelots eurent opinion environ sur le minuit qu'ils approchaient de quelque contrée.
28 and having sounded found twenty fathoms, and having gone a little farther and having again sounded they found fifteen fathoms;
Et ayant jeté la sonde, ils trouvèrent vingt brasses; puis étant passés un peu plus loin, et ayant encore jeté la sonde, ils trouvèrent quinze brasses.
29 and fearing lest we should be cast on rocky places, casting four anchors out of the stern, they wished that day were come.
Mais craignant de donner contre quelque écueil, ils jetèrent quatre ancres de la poupe, désirant que le jour vînt.
30 But the sailors wishing to flee out of the ship, and having let down the boat into the sea under pretext of being about to carry out anchors from the prow,
Et comme les matelots cherchaient à s'enfuir du navire, ayant descendu l'esquif en mer, sous prétexte d'aller porter loin les ancres du côté de la proue,
31 Paul said to the centurion and the soldiers, Unless these abide in the ship ye cannot be saved.
Paul dit au centenier et aux soldats: si ceux-ci ne demeurent dans le navire, vous ne pouvez point vous sauver.
32 Then the soldiers cut away the ropes of the boat and let her fall.
Alors les soldats coupèrent les cordes de l'esquif, et le laissèrent tomber.
33 And while it was drawing on to daylight, Paul exhorted them all to partake of food, saying, Ye have passed the fourteenth day watching in expectation without taking food.
Et jusqu'à ce que le jour vînt, Paul les exhorta tous de prendre quelque nourriture, en leur disant: c'est aujourd'hui le quatorzième jour qu'en attendant, vous êtes demeurés à jeun, et n'avez rien pris;
34 Wherefore I exhort you to partake of food, for this has to do with your safety; for not a hair from the head of any one of you shall perish.
Je vous exhorte donc à prendre quelque nourriture, vu que cela est nécessaire pour votre conservation: car il ne tombera pas un cheveu de la tête d'aucun de vous.
35 And, having said these things and taken a loaf, he gave thanks to God before all, and having broken it began to eat.
Et quand il eut dit ces choses, il prit du pain, et rendit grâces à Dieu en présence de tous, et l'ayant rompu il commença a manger.
36 And all taking courage, themselves also took food.
Alors ayant tous pris courage, ils commencèrent aussi à manger.
37 And we were in the ship, all the souls, two hundred and seventy-six.
Or nous étions en tout dans le navire deux cent soixante-seize personnes.
38 And having satisfied themselves with food, they lightened the ship, casting out the wheat into the sea.
Et quand ils eurent mangé jusqu'à être rassasiés, ils allégèrent le navire, en jetant le blé dans la mer.
39 And when it was day they did not recognise the land; but they perceived a certain bay having a strand, on which they were minded, if they should be able, to run the ship ashore;
Et le jour étant venu ils ne reconnaissaient point le pays; mais ils aperçurent un golfe ayant rivage, et ils résolurent d'y faire échouer le navire, s'il leur était possible.
40 and, having cast off the anchors, they left [them] in the sea, at the same time loosening the lashings of the rudders, and hoisting the foresail to the wind, they made for the strand.
C'est pourquoi ayant retiré les ancres, ils abandonnèrent le navire à la mer, lâchant en même temps les attaches des gouvernails; et ayant tendu la voile de l'artimon, ils tirèrent vers le rivage.
41 And falling into a place where two seas met they ran the ship aground, and the prow having stuck itself fast remained unmoved, but the stern was broken by the force of the waves.
Mais étant tombés en un lieu où deux courants se rencontraient, ils y heurtèrent le navire, et la proue s'y étant enfoncée demeurait ferme, mais la poupe se rompait par la violence des vagues.
42 And [the] counsel of the soldiers was that they should kill the prisoners, lest any one should swim off and escape.
Alors le conseil des soldats fut de tuer les prisonniers, de peur que quelqu'un s'étant sauvé à la nage, ne s'enfuît.
43 But the centurion, desirous of saving Paul, hindered them of their purpose, and commanded those who were able to swim, casting themselves first [into the sea], to get out on land;
Mais le centenier voulant sauver Paul, les empêcha [d'exécuter] ce conseil, et il commanda que ceux qui pourraient nager se jetassent dehors les premiers, et se sauvassent à terre;
44 and the rest, some on boards, some on some of the things [that came] from the ship; and thus it came to pass that all got safe to land.
Et le reste, les uns sur des planches, et les autres sur quelques [pièces] du navire; et ainsi il arriva que tous se sauvèrent à terre.
