2 Timothy 1
1 Paul, apostle of Jesus Christ by God's will, according to promise of life, the [life] which [is] in Christ Jesus,
Paulus, durch Gottes Willen zum Apostel Christi Jesu bestellt, um das Leben zu verkündigen, das in der Gemeinschaft mit Christus Jesus zu finden ist,
2 to Timotheus, [my] beloved child: grace, mercy, peace, from God [the] Father, and Christ Jesus our Lord.
entbietet seinem geliebten Kind Timotheus seinen Gruß. Gnade, Erbarmen und Friede werde dir zuteil von Gott dem Vater und unserem Herrn Christus Jesus!
3 I am thankful to God, whom I serve from [my] forefathers with pure conscience, how unceasingly I have the remembrance of thee in my supplications night and day,
Ich danke Gott, dem ich nach meiner Ahnen Vorbild mit reinem Gewissen diene, sooft ich fort und fort bei Tag und Nacht in meinen Gebeten dein gedenke.
4 earnestly desiring to see thee, remembering thy tears, that I may be filled with joy;
Ich vergesse nicht deiner Tränen, und mich verlangt nach einem Wiedersehen mit dir. Das wäre der Gipfel meiner Freude.
5 calling to mind the unfeigned faith which [has been] in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and in thy mother Eunice, and I am persuaded that in thee also.
Dabei ist mir dein ungeheuchelter Glaube stets im Gedächtnis. Ein solcher Glaube hat auch schon gewohnt in deiner Großmutter Lois und in deiner Mutter Eunike. Nun wohnt er, wie ich fest vertraue, auch in dir.
6 For which cause I put thee in mind to rekindle the gift of God which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.
Darum rufe ich dir mahnend zu: Fach an zu neuer Glut die Gnadengabe Gottes, die in dir ist durch meine Handauflegung!
7 For God has not given us a spirit of cowardice, but of power, and of love, and of wise discretion.
Denn Gott hat uns nicht einen Geist gegeben, der Verzagtheit wirkt, sondern einen Geist, der uns erfüllt mit Kraft, mit Liebe und mit nüchterner Besonnenheit.
8 Be not therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner; but suffer evil along with the glad tidings, according to the power of God;
Darum schäme dich nicht, von unserem Herrn Zeugnis abzulegen! Schäme dich auch mein nicht, der ich um seinetwillen in Ketten liege! Sondern im Dienst der Heilsbotschaft sei ebenso wie ich bereit zu leiden! Dazu gibt Gott die Kraft.
9 who has saved us, and has called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to [his] own purpose and grace, which [was] given to us in Christ Jesus before [the] ages of time, (aiōnios g166)
Er hat uns ja errettet und mit heiligem Ruf berufen — nicht wegen unserer Werke, sondern nach seinem freien Ratschluß —, um uns seine Gnade mitzuteilen. Die hat er uns in Christus Jesus schon seit ewigen Zeiten zum Besitz bestimmt. (aiōnios g166)
10 but has been made manifest now by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who has annulled death, and brought to light life and incorruptibility by the glad tidings;
Doch jetzt erst ist sie offenbar geworden durch die Erscheinung unseres Retters Jesus Christus. Der hat des Todes Macht vernichtet und Leben und Unsterblichkeit ans Licht gebracht durch seine Frohe Botschaft.
11 to which I have been appointed a herald and apostle and teacher of [the] nations.
Ich bin dazu eingesetzt worden, sie als Apostel und als Lehrer mit lautem Heroldsruf zu verkündigen.
12 For which cause also I suffer these things; but I am not ashamed; for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep for that day the deposit I have entrusted to him.
Darum habe ich jetzt auch (Gefangenschaft) zu leiden. Aber ich lasse den Mut nicht sinken. Denn ich weiß, auf wen ich mein Vertrauen setze, und bin gewiß, er hat's in seiner Macht, das mir anvertraute Gut bis auf "jenen Tag" zu bewahren.
13 Have an outline of sound words, which [words] thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which [are] in Christ Jesus.
Was du von mir gehört, das halte fest als Vorbild für gesunde Lehre in jenem Glauben und in jener Liebe, die sich in Christus Jesus finden!
14 Keep, by the Holy Spirit which dwells in us, the good deposit entrusted.
Bewahre das dir anvertraute köstliche Gut durch die Kraft des Heiligen Geistes, der in uns wohnt!
15 Thou knowest this, that all who [are] in Asia, of whom is Phygellus and Hermogenes, have turned away from me.
Du weißt, daß alle Kleinasiaten, darunter Phygelus und Hermogenes, sich von mir abgewandt haben.
16 The Lord grant mercy to the house of Onesiphorus, for he has often refreshed me, and has not been ashamed of my chain;
Der Herr schenke Barmherzigkeit dem Haus des Onesiphorus! Denn er hat mich oft erquickt und sich meiner Ketten nicht geschämt.
17 but being in Rome sought me out very diligently, and found [me] —
Vielmehr hat er bei seinem Aufenthalt in Rom eifrig nach mir gesucht und mich auch aufgefunden.
18 the Lord grant to him to find mercy from [the] Lord in that day — and how much service he rendered in Ephesus thou knowest best.
Der Herr lasse ihn dafür Erbarmen finden bei dem Herrn an jenem Tag! Und welche Dienste er in Ephesus geleistet hat, das weißt du selbst am besten.
