2 Samuel 14
1 And Joab the son of Zeruiah perceived that the king's heart was toward Absalom.
Et Joab, fils de Tseruïa, comprenait que le cœur du Roi revenait à l'égard d'Absalom.
2 And Joab sent to Tekoah, and fetched thence a wise woman, and said to her, I pray thee, feign thyself to be a mourner, and put on mourning garments, I pray, and anoint not thyself with oil, but be as a woman that hath a long time mourned for the dead;
Alors Joab dépêcha à Thékôa et en fit venir une femme avisée; et il lui dit: Prends donc le deuil et revêts des habits de deuil, et ne t'oins pas d'huile, et aie l'attitude d'une femme depuis longtemps en deuil d'un mort;
3 and come to the king, and speak after this manner to him. And Joab put the words into her mouth.
puis présente-toi au Roi et lui parle de telle et telle manière. Et il lui mit dans la bouche le discours à tenir.
4 And the woman of Tekoah spoke to the king, and she fell on her face to the ground and did obeisance, and said, Save, O king!
La femme Thékôïte vint donc parler au Roi, et elle se jeta le visage contre terre et se prosterna et dit: Sois secourable, ô Roi!
5 And the king said to her, What aileth thee? And she said, I am indeed a widow woman, and my husband is dead.
et le Roi lui dit: Qu'as-tu? Et elle dit: Au vrai, je suis veuve et mon mari est mort.
6 And thy bondmaid had two sons, and they two strove together in the field, and there was none to part them, but the one smote the other and slew him.
Et ta servante avait deux fils, et ils eurent entre eux deux une rixe dans les champs, et il ne se trouva personne pour les séparer, et l'un porta un coup à l'autre et le tua.
7 And behold, the whole family is risen against thy bondmaid, and they say, Deliver him that smote his brother, that we may put him to death, for the life of his brother whom he killed; and we will destroy the heir also: so they will quench my coal which is left, and will not leave to my husband a name or remnant on the earth.
Et voilà qu'il y eut une levée de toute la parenté contre ta servante, et ils dirent: Livre le fratricide afin que nous lui donnions la mort pour l'âme de son frère qu'il a égorgé! et ils veulent aussi détruire l'héritier, et ainsi éteindre le tison qui me reste pour ne laisser à mon mari ni nom ni lignée sur la face de la terre.
8 And the king said to the woman, Go to thy house, and I will give charge concerning thee.
Et le Roi dit à la femme: Va dans ta maison! et moi, j'aviserai à ton égard.
9 And the woman of Tekoah said to the king, Upon me, my lord, O king, be the iniquity, and upon my father's house; and the king and his throne be guiltless.
Et la femme Thékôïte dit au Roi: C'est à moi, ô Roi, mon Seigneur, qu'on s'en prendra de la dérogation, et à la maison de mon père et le Roi et son trône ne seront pas responsables!
10 And the king said, Whoever speaks to thee, bring him to me, and he shall not touch thee any more.
Et le Roi dit: Si quelqu'un te menace, amène-le-moi! il ne s'avisera plus de s'attaquer à toi!
11 Then she said, I pray thee, let the king remember Jehovah thy God, that thou wouldest not suffer the revengers of blood to destroy any more, lest they cut off my son. And he said, [As] Jehovah liveth, there shall not one hair of thy son fall to the earth.
Et elle dit: Oh! que le Roi, mon Seigneur, se souvienne de l'Éternel, ton Dieu, pour empêcher le vengeur du sang de multiplier les victimes et de faire périr le fils que j'ai! Et il dit: Par la vie de l'Éternel! non, si des cheveux de ton fils un seul tombe en terre.
12 And the woman said, Let thy bondmaid, I pray thee, speak a word to my lord the king. And he said, Speak.
Et la femme dit: Permets que ta servante dise un mot à mon Seigneur, le Roi! Et il dit: Parle!
13 And the woman said, Why then hast thou thought such a thing against God's people? and the king in saying this thing, is as one guilty, in that the king does not bring back his banished one.
Et la femme dit: Pourquoi est-ce là ta manière de penser quand il s'agit du peuple de Dieu, puisque en se prononçant ainsi le Roi est comme coupable de ne pas accorder le retour de son banni?
14 For we must needs die, and are as water spilt on the ground, which cannot be gathered up again; and God has not taken away his life, but devises means that the banished one be not expelled from him.
Car il nous faut mourir tous, et nous devenons comme une eau épanchée sur la terre et qui ne se recueille plus; et Dieu ne se presse pas d'ôter une vie, mais Sa pensée constante est de ne pas repousser loin de Lui celui qui s'est banni.
15 And now that I am come to speak of this thing to my lord the king, it is because the people have made me afraid; and thy bondmaid said, I will now speak to the king; perhaps the king will perform the request of his handmaid.
Or, si je suis venue tenir ce langage au Roi, mon Seigneur, c'est que le peuple m'avait alarmée! et ta servante s'est dit: Je veux parler au Roi; peut-être donnera-t-il effet à la parole de sa servante.
16 For the king will hear, to deliver his handmaid out of the hand of the man that would destroy me and my son together out of the inheritance of God.
Oui, le Roi prêtera l'oreille pour sauver sa servante des mains de l'homme qui veut éliminer moi et mon fils à la fois de l'héritage de Dieu.
17 And thy bondmaid said, Let the word of my lord the king now be comfortable; for as an angel of God, so is my lord the king to discern good and bad; and Jehovah thy God will be with thee.
Et ta servante se disait: Puisse le langage du Roi, mon Seigneur, servir à me tranquilliser! car pareil à un ange de Dieu, le Roi, mon Seigneur, saura entendre le bien et le mal: et que l'Éternel, ton Dieu, t'assiste!
18 And the king answered and said to the woman, Hide not from me, I pray thee, the thing that I shall ask thee. And the woman said, Let my lord the king now speak.
Et le Roi répondit et dit à la femme: Ne me cache rien de ce que je vais te demander! Et la femme dit: Que mon Seigneur le Roi daigne parler!
19 And the king said, Is the hand of Joab with thee in all this? And the woman answered and said, [As] thy soul liveth, my lord, O king, there is no turning to the right hand or to the left from aught that my lord the king has spoken; for thy servant Joab, he bade me, and he put all these words into the mouth of thy bondmaid:
Et le Roi dit: La main de Joab n'est-elle pas ta complice en tout ceci? Et la femme répondit et dit: Par ta vie, ô Roi, mon Seigneur! Ce n'est ni à droite ni à gauche qu'a frappé aucune des paroles du Roi, mon Seigneur! oui, c'est ton serviteur Joab qui m'a donné ses ordres, et a mis toutes ces paroles dans la bouche de ta servante.
20 in order to turn the appearance of the thing has thy servant Joab done this thing; but my lord is wise, according to the wisdom of an angel of God, to know all that is in the earth.
C'est pour donner à l'affaire une autre tournure que Joab s'y est pris de cette façon. Mais mon Seigneur a la sagesse d'un ange de Dieu pour savoir tout ce qui a lieu sur la terre.
21 And the king said to Joab, Behold now, I have done this thing: so go, bring back the young man Absalom.
Et le Roi dit à Joab: Eh bien! voici, je donne effet à cette parole: va donc, ramène le jeune homme, Absalom.
22 And Joab fell to the ground on his face and bowed himself, and blessed the king; and Joab said, To-day thy servant knows that I have found favour in thy sight, my lord, O king, in that the king has fulfilled the request of his servant.
Alors Joab se jeta la face contre terre et se prosterna et bénit le Roi, et Joab. dit: Aujourd'hui ton serviteur sent qu'il a trouvé grâce à tes yeux, ô Roi, mon Seigneur, puisque le Roi met à effet la parole de son serviteur.
23 And Joab arose and went to Geshur, and brought Absalom to Jerusalem.
Et Joab partit et se rendit à Gesur et il ramena Absalom à Jérusalem.
24 And the king said, Let him turn to his own house, and let him not see my face. And Absalom withdrew to his own house, and saw not the king's face.
Mais le Roi dit: Qu'il se retire dans sa maison et ne se montre pas devant moi. Ainsi Absalom se retira dans sa maison et ne parut point devant le Roi.
25 But in all Israel there was none to be so much praised as Absalom for his beauty: from the sole of his foot even to the crown of his head there was no blemish in him.
Et dans tout Israël il n'y avait pas un homme qui eût la beauté d'Absalom; elle était fort célèbre; de la plante des pieds au sommet de la tête il était sans défaut.
26 And when he shaved his head (for it was at every year's end that he shaved it, because it was heavy on him, therefore he shaved it), he weighed the hair of his head at two hundred shekels after the king's weight.
Et lorsqu'il se tondait la tête, — or toutes les années il se la tondait, car sa chevelure lui pesait, c'est pourquoi il la coupait; — le poids des cheveux de sa tête était de deux cents sicles, poids de Roi.
27 And to Absalom there were born three sons, and one daughter, whose name was Tamar: she was a woman of a beautiful countenance.
Et il était né à Absalom trois fils et une fille, nommée Thamar, et celle-ci était une femme belle de figure.
28 So Absalom dwelt two full years in Jerusalem, and did not see the king's face.
Et Absalom demeura ainsi deux ans à Jérusalem, mais sans paraître en la présence du Roi.
29 Then Absalom sent for Joab, to send him to the king; but he would not come to him; and he sent again the second time, but he would not come.
Et Absalom manda Joab pour le députer auprès du Roi; mais il ne voulut pas venir; et il lui fit faire un second message, mais il ne voulut pas venir.
30 Then he said to his servants, See, Joab's allotment is near mine and he has barley there: go and set it on fire. And Absalom's servants set the allotment on fire.
Alors il dit à ses serviteurs: Voyez le champ de Joab à côté du mien, et il y a de l'orge; allez et mettez-y le feu. Et les serviteurs d'Absalom mirent le feu au champ.
31 Then Joab arose, and came to Absalom to [his] house, and said to him, Why have thy servants set my allotment on fire?
Là-dessus Joab se leva et vint trouver Absalom chez lui et lui dit: Pourquoi tes serviteurs ont-ils mis le feu à mon champ?
32 And Absalom said to Joab, Behold, I sent to thee, saying, Come hither, that I may send thee to the king, to say, Why am I come from Geshur? it would have been better for me to be there still. And now let me see the king's face; and if there be iniquity in me, let him slay me.
Et Absalom dit à Joab: Voilà que je t'ai fait faire un message en ces termes: Viens ici et je te députerai auprès du Roi pour lui dire: Pourquoi suis-je revenu de Gesur? Mieux vaudrait pour moi d'y être encore; maintenant je veux voir le visage du Roi; si un crime est à ma charge, qu'il me fasse mourir!
33 And Joab came to the king, and told him. And he called Absalom, and he came to the king, and bowed himself on his face to the ground before the king; and the king kissed Absalom.
Alors Joab se présenta chez le Roi et lui fit rapport. Et il rappela Absalom, lequel vint chez le Roi et se prosterna devant le Roi face contre terre; et le Roi donna le baiser à Absalom.
