2 Samuel 12
1 And Jehovah sent Nathan to David. And he came to him, and said to him, There were two men in one city; the one rich, and the other poor.
Yahvé envió a Natán a David. Se acercó a él y le dijo: “Había dos hombres en una ciudad: uno rico y otro pobre.
2 The rich had very many flocks and herds;
El rico tenía muchos rebaños y manadas,
3 but the poor man had nothing at all, but one little ewe lamb which he had bought, and was nourishing; and it grew up with him, and together with his children: it ate of his morsel, and drank of his own cup, and slept in his bosom, and was to him as a daughter.
pero el pobre no tenía nada, excepto una ovejita que había comprado y criado. Creció junto a él y a sus hijos. Comía de su comida, bebía de su copa, se acostaba en su seno y era como una hija para él.
4 And there came a traveller to the rich man, and he spared to take of his own flock and of his own herd, to dress for the wayfaring man that had come to him; and he took the poor man's lamb, and dressed it for the man that had come to him.
Llegó un viajero al hombre rico, y éste no quiso tomar de su propio rebaño y de su propia manada para preparar al caminante que había venido a él, sino que tomó el cordero del pobre y lo preparó para el hombre que había venido a él.”
5 Then David's anger was greatly kindled against the man; and he said to Nathan, As Jehovah liveth, the man that hath done this thing is worthy of death;
La ira de David se encendió contra el hombre, y dijo a Natán: “¡Vive Yahvé, que el hombre que ha hecho esto merece morir!
6 and he shall restore the lamb fourfold, because he did this thing, and because he had no pity.
¡Debe restituir el cordero cuatro veces, porque ha hecho esto y porque no ha tenido piedad!”
7 And Nathan said to David, Thou art the man! Thus saith Jehovah the God of Israel: I anointed thee king over Israel, and I delivered thee out of the hand of Saul;
Natán le dijo a David: “¡Tú eres el hombre! Esto es lo que dice Yahvé, el Dios de Israel: ‘Yo te ungí como rey de Israel, y te libré de la mano de Saúl.
8 and I gave thee thy master's house, and thy master's wives into thy bosom, and gave thee the house of Israel and of Judah; and if [that] had been too little, I would moreover have given unto thee such and such things.
Te di la casa de tu amo y las mujeres de tu amo en tu seno, y te di la casa de Israel y de Judá; y si eso hubiera sido poco, te habría añadido muchas cosas más.
9 Wherefore hast thou despised the word of Jehovah to do evil in his sight? thou hast smitten Urijah the Hittite with the sword, and hast taken his wife to be thy wife, and hast slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon.
¿Por qué has despreciado la palabra de Yahvé, para hacer lo que es malo a sus ojos? Has herido con la espada a Urías el hitita, has tomado a su mujer para que sea tu esposa, y lo has matado con la espada de los hijos de Amón.
10 Now therefore the sword shall never depart from thy house; because thou hast despised me, and hast taken the wife of Urijah the Hittite to be thy wife.
Ahora, pues, la espada nunca se apartará de tu casa, porque me has despreciado y has tomado a la mujer de Urías el hitita como esposa.’
11 Thus saith Jehovah: Behold, I will raise up evil against thee out of thine own house, and I will take thy wives before thine eyes, and give them unto thy neighbour, and he shall lie with thy wives in the sight of this sun.
“Esto es lo que dice el Señor: ‘He aquí que yo suscito contra ti el mal de tu propia casa; y tomaré tus mujeres ante tus ojos y se las daré a tu prójimo, y él se acostará con tus mujeres a la vista de este sol.
12 For thou didst [it] secretly; but I will do this thing before all Israel and before the sun.
Porque tú hiciste esto en secreto, pero yo haré esto delante de todo Israel y delante del sol’”.
13 And David said to Nathan, I have sinned against Jehovah. And Nathan said to David, Jehovah has also put away thy sin: thou shalt not die.
David dijo a Natán: “He pecado contra Yahvé”. Natán le dijo a David: “También Yahvé ha quitado tu pecado. No morirás.
14 Howbeit, because by this deed thou hast given great occasion to the enemies of Jehovah to blaspheme, even the child that is born to thee shall certainly die.
Sin embargo, como con esta acción has dado gran ocasión a los enemigos de Yahvé para blasfemar, también el niño que te nazca morirá.”
15 And Nathan departed to his house. And Jehovah smote the child that Urijah's wife bore to David, and it became very sick.
Entonces Natán se fue a su casa. El Señor golpeó al niño que la mujer de Urías le dio a David, y éste quedó muy enfermo.
16 And David besought God for the child; and David fasted, and went in, and lay all night on the earth.
David, pues, rogó a Dios por el niño; y David ayunó, y entró y se acostó toda la noche en el suelo.
17 And the elders of his house arose, [and went] to him, to raise him up from the earth; but he would not, and he ate no bread with them.
Los ancianos de su casa se levantaron junto a él para levantarlo de la tierra; pero él no quiso, y no comió pan con ellos.
18 And it came to pass on the seventh day, that the child died. And the servants of David feared to tell him that the child was dead; for they said, Behold, while the child was yet alive, we spoke to him, and he would not hearken to our voice; and how shall we say to him, The child is dead? he may do some harm.
Al séptimo día, el niño murió. Los siervos de David tuvieron miedo de decirle que el niño había muerto, pues dijeron: “He aquí que, mientras el niño vivía, le hablamos y no escuchó nuestra voz. ¿Cómo se va a perjudicar entonces si le decimos que el niño ha muerto?”
19 But David saw that his servants whispered, and David perceived that the child was dead; and David said to his servants, Is the child dead? And they said, He is dead.
Pero cuando David vio que sus sirvientes cuchicheaban juntos, se dio cuenta de que el niño estaba muerto; y David dijo a sus sirvientes: “¿Ha muerto el niño?” Dijeron: “Está muerto”.
20 Then David arose from the earth, and washed, and anointed himself, and changed his clothing, and entered into the house of Jehovah and worshipped; then he came to his own house and required them to set bread before him, and he ate.
Entonces David se levantó de la tierra, se lavó y se ungió, y se cambió de ropa; entró en la casa de Yahvé y adoró. Luego llegó a su casa; y cuando pidió, le pusieron pan delante y comió.
21 And his servants said to him, What thing is this which thou hast done? thou didst fast and weep for the child alive; but as soon as the child is dead, thou dost rise and eat bread.
Entonces sus servidores le dijeron: “¿Qué es lo que has hecho? Ayunaste y lloraste por el niño mientras vivía, pero cuando el niño murió, te levantaste y comiste pan.”
22 And he said, While the child was yet alive, I fasted and wept; for I thought, Who knows? [perhaps] Jehovah will be gracious to me, that the child may live.
Dijo: “Mientras el niño vivía, yo ayunaba y lloraba, porque decía: “¿Quién sabe si Yahvé no tendrá piedad de mí para que el niño viva?”
23 But now he is dead, why should I fast? can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he will not return to me.
Pero ahora ha muerto. ¿Por qué he de ayunar? ¿Puedo hacer que vuelva a nacer? Iré hacia él, pero no volverá a mí”.
24 And David comforted Bathsheba his wife, and went in to her and lay with her; and she bore a son, and he called his name Solomon; and Jehovah loved him.
David consoló a su mujer Betsabé, se acercó a ella y se acostó con ella. Ella dio a luz un hijo, al que llamó Salomón. Yahvé lo amó;
25 And he sent by the hand of Nathan the prophet; and he called his name Jedidiah, for Jehovah's sake.
y envió por medio del profeta Natán, y lo llamó Jedidías, por amor a Yahvé.
26 And Joab fought against Rabbah of the children of Ammon, and took the royal city.
Joab luchó contra Rabá, de los hijos de Amón, y tomó la ciudad real.
27 And Joab sent messengers to David, and said, I have fought against Rabbah, and have taken the city of waters.
Joab envió mensajeros a David y le dijo: “He luchado contra Rabá. Sí, he tomado la ciudad de las aguas.
28 And now gather the rest of the people, and encamp against the city and take it: lest I take the city and it be called by my name.
Reúne, pues, ahora al resto del pueblo y acampa contra la ciudad y tómala; no sea que yo tome la ciudad y sea llamada con mi nombre.”
29 And David gathered all the people, and went to Rabbah, and fought against it and took it.
David reunió a todo el pueblo y fue a Rabá, luchó contra ella y la tomó.
30 And he took the crown of their king from off his head, the weight of which was a talent of gold with [the] precious stones; and it was [set] on David's head; and he brought forth the spoil of the city in great abundance.
Tomó la corona de su rey de la cabeza; su peso era de un talento de oro, y en ella había piedras preciosas; y fue puesta sobre la cabeza de David. Sacó de la ciudad una gran cantidad de botín.
31 And he brought out the people that were in it, and put them under the saw, and under harrows of iron, and under axes of iron, and made them pass through the brickkilns. And so did he to all the cities of the children of Ammon. And David and all the people returned to Jerusalem.
Sacó al pueblo que estaba en ella y lo puso a trabajar bajo sierras, bajo picos de hierro, bajo hachas de hierro, y lo hizo ir al horno de ladrillos; y así hizo con todas las ciudades de los hijos de Amón. Luego David y todo el pueblo regresaron a Jerusalén.
