2 Kings 14

1 In the second year of Joash son of Jehoahaz, king of Israel, began Amaziah the son of Joash, king of Judah, to reign.

Im zweiten Regierungsjahre des Joas, des Sohnes des Königs Joahas von Israel, wurde Amazja, der Sohn des Joas, König über Juda.

2 He was twenty-five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem; and his mother's name was Jehoaddan of Jerusalem.

Im Alter von fünfundzwanzig Jahren kam er auf den Thron, und neunundzwanzig Jahre regierte er in Jerusalem; seine Mutter hieß Joaddan und stammte aus Jerusalem.

3 And he did what was right in the sight of Jehovah, yet not like David his father: he did according to all that Joash his father had done.

Er tat, was dem HERRN wohlgefiel, doch nicht so wie sein Ahnherr David, sondern ganz, wie sein Vater Joas getan hatte;

4 Only, the high places were not removed: the people still sacrificed and burned incense on the high places.

jedoch der Höhendienst wurde nicht abgeschafft, sondern das Volk brachte immer noch Schlacht- und Rauchopfer auf den Höhen dar. –

5 And it came to pass when the kingdom was established in his hand, that he slew his servants who had smitten the king his father.

Sobald er nun die Herrschaft fest in Händen hatte, ließ er von seinen Dienern diejenigen hinrichten, die den König, seinen Vater, ermordet hatten.

6 But the children of those that smote [him] he did not put to death; according to that which is written in the book of the law of Moses, wherein Jehovah commanded saying, The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, neither shall the children be put to death for the fathers; but every man shall be put to death for his own sin.

Aber die Söhne der Mörder ließ er nicht hinrichten, sondern verfuhr so, wie im Gesetzbuch Moses geschrieben steht, wo der HERR ausdrücklich geboten hat: »Väter sollen nicht wegen einer Verschuldung ihrer Söhne getötet werden, und Söhne sollen nicht wegen einer Verschuldung ihrer Väter getötet werden, sondern ein jeder soll nur wegen seiner eigenen Sünde getötet werden.«

7 He smote of Edom in the valley of salt ten thousand, and took Sela in the war, and called the name of it Joktheel to this day.

Er war es auch, der die Edomiter im Salztal schlug, zehntausend Mann, und Sela im Sturm eroberte und dem Ort den Namen Joktheel beilegte, den er bis auf den heutigen Tag führt.

8 Then Amaziah sent messengers to Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz, son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, Come, let us look one another in the face.

Damals schickte Amazja Gesandte an den König Joas von Israel, den Sohn des Joahas, des Sohnes Jehus, und ließ ihm sagen: »Komm, wir wollen unsere Kräfte miteinander messen!«

9 And Jehoash king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, The thorn-bush that is in Lebanon sent to the cedar that is in Lebanon, saying, Give thy daughter to my son as wife; and there passed by the wild beast that is in Lebanon, and trode down the thorn-bush.

Da ließ Joas, der König von Israel, dem König Amazja von Juda durch eine Gesandtschaft antworten: »Der Dornstrauch auf dem Libanon sandte (einst) zu der Zeder auf dem Libanon und ließ ihr sagen: ›Gib deine Tochter meinem Sohne zur Frau!‹, aber da liefen die wilden Tiere auf dem Libanon über den Dornstrauch hin und zertraten ihn.

10 Thou hast indeed smitten Edom, and thy heart has lifted thee up: boast thyself, and abide at home; for why shouldest thou contend with misfortune, that thou shouldest fall, thou, and Judah with thee?

Weil du die Edomiter glücklich besiegt hast, ist dir der Mut gewachsen. Begnüge dich mit dem Ruhme und bleibe zu Hause sitzen: warum willst du das Unglück herausfordern, daß du zu Fall kommst und Juda mit dir?«

11 But Amaziah would not hear. And Jehoash king of Israel went up; and they looked one another in the face, he and Amaziah king of Judah, at Beth-shemesh, which is in Judah.

Da aber Amazja nicht hören wollte, zog Joas, der König von Israel, heran, und beide maßen ihre Kräfte miteinander, er und der König Amazja von Juda, bei Beth-Semes, das zu Juda gehört.

12 And Judah was routed before Israel; and they fled every man to his tent.

Da wurden die Judäer von den Israeliten geschlagen, so daß ein jeder in seine Heimat floh.

13 And Jehoash king of Israel took Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Jehoash son of Ahaziah, at Beth-shemesh, and came to Jerusalem, and broke down the wall of Jerusalem from the gate of Ephraim to the corner-gate, four hundred cubits.

Den Amazja selber aber, den König von Juda, den Sohn des Joas, des Sohnes Ahasjas, nahm Joas, der König von Israel, bei Beth-Semes gefangen und ließ, als er nach Jerusalem gekommen war, ein Stück der Mauer Jerusalems vom Ephraimstor bis zum Ecktor auf einer Strecke von vierhundert Ellen niederreißen.

14 And he took all the gold and the silver, and all the vessels that were found in the house of Jehovah, and in the treasures of the king's house, and hostages, and returned to Samaria.

Außerdem nahm er alles Gold und Silber sowie alle Geräte, die sich im Tempel des HERRN und in den Schatzkammern des königlichen Palastes vorfanden, dazu Geiseln, und kehrte dann nach Samaria zurück.

15 And the rest of the acts of Jehoash, what he did, and his might, and how he fought with Amaziah king of Judah, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

Die übrige Geschichte des Joas aber, alles, was er unternommen hat, und seine tapferen Taten und wie er mit dem König Amazja von Juda Krieg geführt hat, das findet sich bekanntlich aufgezeichnet im Buch der Denkwürdigkeiten der Könige von Israel.

16 And Jehoash slept with his fathers, and was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel; and Jeroboam his son reigned in his stead.

Als Joas sich dann zu seinen Vätern gelegt und man ihn in Samaria bei den Königen von Israel begraben hatte, folgte ihm sein Sohn Jerobeam in der Regierung nach.

17 And Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah lived after the death of Jehoash son of Jehoahaz, king of Israel, fifteen years.

Amazja aber, der Sohn des Joas, der König von Juda, überlebte den König Joas von Israel, den Sohn des Joahas, noch fünfzehn Jahre.

18 And the rest of the acts of Amaziah, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

Die übrige Geschichte Amazjas aber findet sich bekanntlich aufgezeichnet im Buch der Denkwürdigkeiten der Könige von Juda. –

19 And they made a conspiracy against him in Jerusalem; and he fled to Lachish; and they sent after him to Lachish, and slew him there.

Als man aber in Jerusalem eine Verschwörung gegen ihn anstiftete, floh er nach Lachis; doch man sandte Leute nach Lachis hinter ihm her, die ihn dort ermordeten.

20 And they brought him on horses, and he was buried at Jerusalem with his fathers, in the city of David.

Dann lud man ihn auf Rosse, und er wurde in Jerusalem bei seinen Vätern in der Davidstadt begraben.

21 And all the people of Judah took Azariah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king instead of his father Amaziah.

Hierauf nahm die ganze Bevölkerung von Juda den Asarja, der sechzehn Jahre alt war, und machte ihn zum König als Nachfolger seines Vaters Amazja.

22 It was he that built Elath, and restored it to Judah, after the king slept with his fathers.

Er befestigte Elath, das er an Juda zurückgebracht hatte, sogleich nachdem der König sich zu seinen Vätern gelegt hatte.

23 In the fifteenth year of Amaziah the son of Joash, king of Judah, Jeroboam the son of Joash, king of Israel, began to reign in Samaria, for forty-one years.

Im fünfzehnten Regierungsjahre des Königs Amazja von Juda, des Sohnes des Joas, wurde Jerobeam, der Sohn des Königs Joas von Israel, König zu Samaria und regierte einundvierzig Jahre.

24 And he did evil in the sight of Jehovah: he departed not from any of the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin.

Er tat, was dem HERRN mißfiel; er wich in keinem Stück von den Sünden Jerobeams, des Sohnes Nebats, der Israel zur Sünde verführt hatte.

25 He restored the border of Israel from the entrance of Hamath as far as the sea of the plain, according to the word of Jehovah the God of Israel, which he had spoken through his servant Jonah the prophet, the son of Amittai, who was of Gath-Hepher.

Er stellte die Grenze Israels wieder her von der Gegend um Hamath an bis an den großen Steppensee (das Tote Meer), der Verheißung entsprechend, die der HERR, der Gott Israels, durch seinen Knecht, den Propheten Jona, den Sohn Amittais aus Gath-Hepher, gegeben hatte.

26 For Jehovah saw that the affliction of Israel was very bitter; and that there was not any shut up, nor any left, nor any helper for Israel.

Denn der HERR hatte das gar bittere Elend Israels wahrgenommen und gesehen, daß Unmündige ebenso wie Mündige dahin waren und daß kein Helfer für Israel da war.

27 And Jehovah had not said that he would blot out the name of Israel from under the heavens; and he saved them by the hand of Jeroboam the son of Joash.

Auch hatte der HERR noch nicht die Drohung ausgesprochen, daß er den Namen Israels unter dem Himmel austilgen wolle; darum half er ihnen jetzt durch Jerobeam, den Sohn des Joas.

28 And the rest of the acts of Jeroboam, and all that he did, and his might, how he warred, and how he recovered for Israel that [which had belonged] to Judah in Damascus and in Hamath, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

Die übrige Geschichte Jerobeams aber und alles, was er unternommen hat, und seine tapferen Taten, wie er Krieg geführt und wie er Damaskus und Hamath, die zu Juda gehört hatten, für Israel zurückerobert hat, das findet sich bekanntlich aufgezeichnet im Buch der Denkwürdigkeiten der Könige von Israel. –

29 And Jeroboam slept with his fathers, with the kings of Israel; and Zechariah his son reigned in his stead.

Als Jerobeam sich dann zu seinen Vätern, den Königen von Israel, gelegt hatte, folgte ihm sein Sohn Sacharja in der Regierung nach.
