2 Chronicles 32

1 After these things and this faithfulness, Sennacherib king of Assyria came and entered into Judah, and encamped against the fortified cities, and thought to break into them.

১এই সব কাজ বিশ্বস্তভাবে করবার পরে অশূর রাজা সনহেরীব এসে যিহূদা দেশে প্রবেশ করলেন এবং তিনি আক্রমণ করলেন। তিনি দেয়াল দিয়ে ঘেরা শহর ও গ্রামগুলো ঘেরাও করলেন, ভাবলেন সেগুলো নিজের জন্য জয় করে নেবেন।

2 And when Hezekiah saw that Sennacherib was come, and that he was minded to fight against Jerusalem,

২যখন হিষ্কিয় দেখলেন সন্‌হেরীব এসে গেছেন এবং যিরূশালেমের বিরুদ্ধে যুদ্ধ করবার জন্য তিনি মন স্থির করেছেন।

3 he took counsel with his princes and his mighty men to stop the fountains of waters that were outside the city; and they helped him.

৩তখন তিনি তাঁর সেনাপতিদের ও যোদ্ধাদের সঙ্গে পরামর্শ করে শহরের বাইরের ফোয়ারাগুলোর জল বন্ধ করে দেবেন বলে ঠিক করলেন। এটি করার জন্য তাঁরা তাঁকে সাহায্য করলেন।

4 And there was gathered together much people, and they stopped all the fountains, and the torrent that flows through the midst of the land, saying, Why should the kings of Assyria come and find much water?

৪সুতরাং অনেক লোক জড়ো হয়ে সমস্ত ফোয়ারা ও দেশের মধ্য দিয়ে বয়ে যাওয়া জলের স্রোত বন্ধ করে দিল। তারা বলল, “অশূর রাজারা এসে কেন এত জল পাবে?”

5 And he strengthened himself, and built up all the wall that was broken down, and raised it up to the towers, and [built] another wall outside, and fortified the Millo of the city of David, and made darts and shields in abundance.

৫হিষ্কিয় দেয়ালের সব ভাঙ্গা অংশগুলো এবং পাহারা দেওয়ার ঘরগুলোর মত উঁচু করে সারাই করে নিজেকে শক্তিশালী করলেন। এছাড়া সেই দেয়ালের বাইরে তিনি আর একটা দেয়াল তৈরী করলেন এবং দায়ূদ শহরের মিল্লো আরও মজবুত করলেন এবং তিনি অনেক অস্ত্রশস্ত্র ও ঢাল তৈরী করলেন।

6 And he set captains of war over the people, and assembled them to him on the open place at the gate of the city, and spoke consolingly to them saying,

৬তিনি লোকদের উপরে সেনাপতিদের নিযুক্ত করলেন এবং শহরের দরজার বড় জায়গায় তাদের জড়ো করে এই কথা বলে উৎসাহ দিলেন,

7 Be strong and courageous, be not afraid nor dismayed for the king of Assyria, nor for all the multitude that is with him; for there are more with us than with him:

৭“আপনারা শক্তিশালী হন এবং সাহস করুন। অশূর রাজা ও তাঁর বিরাট সৈন্যদল দেখে আপনারা ভয় পাবেন না অথবা হতাশ হবেন না, কারণ তাঁর সঙ্গে যারা আছে তাদের চেয়েও যিনি আমাদের সঙ্গে আছেন তিনি আরও মহান।

8 with him is an arm of flesh, but with us is Jehovah our God to help us and to fight our battles. And the people depended upon the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.

৮তাঁর সঙ্গে রয়েছে কেবল মানুষের শক্তি, কিন্তু আমাদের সাহায্য করতে ও আমাদের পক্ষে যুদ্ধ করতে আমাদের সঙ্গে রয়েছেন আমাদের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভু।” লোকেরা যিহূদার রাজা হিষ্কিয়ের কথা শুনে তাঁর কথার উপর নির্ভর করে নিজেরা সান্ত্বনা পেল।

9 After this, Sennacherib king of Assyria sent his servants to Jerusalem (but he himself was before Lachish, and all his power with him), unto Hezekiah king of Judah, and unto all Judah that were at Jerusalem, saying,

৯পরে অশূর রাজা সনহেরীব তাঁর সমস্ত সৈন্যদলের সঙ্গে লাখীশ ঘেরাও করলেন এবং তাঁর কয়েকজন লোককে তিনি যিরূশালেমে পাঠিয়ে দিলেন। তিনি যিহূদার রাজা হিষ্কিয়ের কাছে এবং সেখানে উপস্থিত যিহূদার সমস্ত লোকদের কাছে এই কথা বলে পাঠালেন,

10 Thus says Sennacherib king of Assyria: On what do ye rely that ye abide in the siege in Jerusalem?

১০অশূর রাজা সনহেরীব এই কথা বলছেন, তোমরা কিসের উপর নির্ভর করে আছ যে কারণে তোমরা ঘেরাও হলেও যিরূশালেমেই থাকবে?

11 Does not Hezekiah persuade you, to give yourselves over to die by famine and by thirst, saying, Jehovah our God will deliver us out of the hand of the king of Assyria?

১১খিদে ও পিপাসায় যাতে তোমরা মর তাই হিষ্কিয় এই কথা বলে কি তোমাদের ভুলাচ্ছে না? তখন সে বলেন আমাদের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভুই অশূর রাজার হাত থেকে আমাদের উদ্ধার করবেন।

12 Has not the same Hezekiah removed his high places and his altars, and commanded Judah and Jerusalem saying, Ye shall worship before one altar, and burn incense upon it?

১২এই হিষ্কিয় নিজেই কি তার উঁচু জায়গা আর বেদীগুলো ধ্বংস করে দেয় নি? যিহূদা ও যিরূশালেমের লোকদের কি সে আদেশ দেয়নি যে, মাত্র একটি বেদির সামনেই তাদের উপাসনা করতে হবে এবং তার উপরই ধূপ জ্বালাতে হবে?

13 Do ye not know what I and my fathers have done to all the peoples of the countries? Were the gods of the nations of the countries in any wise able to deliver their country out of my hand?

১৩অন্যান্য দেশের সব জাতিদের প্রতি আমি ও আমার পূর্বপুরুষেরা যা করেছি তা কি তোমরা জান না? সেই দেশের সব জাতির দেবতারা কি আমার হাত থেকে তাদের দেশ উদ্ধার করতে পেরেছে?

14 Who is there among all the gods of those nations that my fathers have utterly destroyed, that was able to deliver his people out of my hand, that your God should be able to deliver you out of my hand?

১৪যে জাতিগুলোকে আমার পূর্বপুরুষেরা ধ্বংস করে ফেলেছেন তাদের দেবতাদের মধ্যে কে আমার হাত থেকে তার লোকদের উদ্ধার করতে পেরেছিল? তাহলে কি সম্ভব যে তোমাদের ঈশ্বর আমার হাত থেকে তোমাদের উদ্ধার করবে?

15 And now, let not Hezekiah deceive you, nor persuade you in this manner, neither yet believe him; for no god of any nation or kingdom was able to deliver his people out of my hand, nor out of the hand of my fathers: how much less shall your God deliver you out of my hand?

১৫এখন এইরূপে তোমরা হিষ্কিয়কে তোমাদের প্রতি ছলনা করতে ও ভুলিয়ে রাখতে দিয়ো না। তোমরা তাকে বিশ্বাস কোরো না, কারণ কোনো জাতির বা কোনো রাজ্যের দেবতা আমার কিম্বা আমার পূর্বপুরুষদের হাত থেকে তার লোকদের উদ্ধার করতে পারেনি। তাহলে কতটা নিশ্চিত যে, তোমাদের দেবতারা আমার হাত থেকে তোমাদের উদ্ধার করবে?

16 And his servants spoke yet more against Jehovah, the [true] God, and against his servant Hezekiah.

১৬সনহেরীবের লোকেরা ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভু ও তাঁর দাস হিষ্কিয়ের বিরুদ্ধে আরও অনেক কথা বলল।

17 And he wrote a letter to rail at Jehovah the God of Israel, and to speak against him saying, As the gods of the nations of the countries have not delivered their people out of my hand, so shall not the God of Hezekiah deliver his people out of my hand.

১৭এছাড়া সন্‌হেরীব ইস্রায়েলের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভুকে অপমান করবার জন্য চিঠিতে তাঁর বিরুদ্ধে এই কথা লিখলেন, “অন্যান্য দেশের জাতিদের দেবতারা যেমন আমার হাত থেকে তাদের লোকদের উদ্ধার করে নি, ঠিক সেইভাবে হিষ্কিয়ের ঈশ্বরও আমার হাত থেকে তার লোকদের উদ্ধার করবে না।”

18 And they cried with a loud voice in the Jewish [language] to the people of Jerusalem that were on the wall, to frighten them and to trouble them; that they might take the city.

১৮তাঁরা ইব্রীয় ভাষায় চিৎকার করে ঐ কথা বলতে লাগল, যাতে যিরূশালেমের যে লোকেরা দেয়ালের উপরে ছিল তারা ভীষণ ভয় পায় আর যাতে তারা শহরটা দখল করে নিতে পারে।

19 And they spoke of the God of Jerusalem as of the gods of the peoples of the earth, the work of man's hand.

১৯তারা মানুষের হাতে তৈরী পৃথিবীর সব জাতির দেবতাদের সম্বন্ধে যা বলেছিল যিরূশালেমের ঈশ্বরের বিষয়েও তাই বলল।

20 And because of this, king Hezekiah and the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz prayed and cried to heaven.

২০সেইজন্য রাজা হিষ্কিয় ও আমোসের ছেলে ভাববাদী যিশাইয় প্রার্থনার মধ্য দিয়ে স্বর্গের ঈশ্বরের কাছে কান্নাকাটি করলেন।

21 And Jehovah sent an angel, who cut off all the mighty men of valour, and the princes and the captains in the camp of the king of Assyria. And he returned with shame of face to his own land. And when he was come into the house of his god, they that came forth of his own bowels made him fall there with the sword.

২১এতে সদাপ্রভু একজন স্বর্গদূতকে পাঠিয়ে দিলেন তিনি অশূর রাজার শিবিরের মধ্যে সমস্ত যোদ্ধা, নেতা ও সেনাপতিদের সম্পূর্ণভাবে ধ্বংস করে ফেললেন। এতে সন্‌হেরীব লজ্জা পেয়ে নিজের দেশে ফিরে গেলেন। পরে তিনি তাঁর দেবতার মন্দিরে গেলে, তাঁর কয়েকজন ছেলে তাঁকে তরোয়াল দিয়ে মেরে ফেলল।

22 And Jehovah saved Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib the king of Assyria, and from the hand of all, and protected them on every side.

২২এই ভাবে সদাপ্রভু অশূরের রাজা সন্‌হেরীবের এবং অন্যান্য সকলের হাত থেকে হিষ্কিয়কে ও যিরূশালেমের বসবাসকারী লোকদের রক্ষা করলেন এবং তিনি সব দিক দিয়েই তাদের নিরাপদে রাখলেন।

23 And many brought gifts unto Jehovah to Jerusalem, and precious things to Hezekiah king of Judah; and he was thenceforth magnified in the sight of all the nations.

২৩এর জন্য অনেকেই যিরূশালেমে সদাপ্রভুর উদ্দেশ্যে উপহার নিয়ে আসল এবং যিহূদার রাজা হিষ্কিয়ের জন্য দামী উপহার আনল। তাতে সেই দিন থেকে সমস্ত জাতির লোক তাঁকে খুব সম্মান ও উচ্চকৃত করতে লাগল।

24 In those days Hezekiah was sick unto death, and he prayed to Jehovah; and he spoke to him and gave him a sign.

২৪সেই দিন হিষ্কিয় খুব অসুস্থ হয়ে মৃত্যুর মুখোমুখি হলেন। হিষ্কিয় সদাপ্রভুর কাছে প্রার্থনা করলেন, আর সদাপ্রভু উত্তর দিলেন এবং তাঁকে একটা আশ্চর্য্য চিহ্ন দিলেন যে তিনি সুস্থ হবেন।

25 But Hezekiah rendered not again according to the benefit [done] to him, for his heart was lifted up; and there was wrath upon him, and upon Judah and Jerusalem.

২৫কিন্তু হিষ্কিয়ের হৃদয়ে গর্ব দেখা দিল। তাঁর প্রতি যে রকম আশীর্বাদ করা হয়েছিল সেই অনুসারে তিনি কাজ করলেন না; এতে তাঁর উপর এবং যিহূদা ও যিরূশালেমের উপর সদাপ্রভুর ক্রোধ নেমে আসলো।

26 And Hezekiah humbled himself for the pride of his heart, he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the wrath of Jehovah came not upon them in the days of Hezekiah.

২৬তখন হিষ্কিয় তাঁর নিজের হৃদয়ের গর্বের জন্য নিজেকে নত করলেন এবং যিরূশালেমের বসবাসকারী লোকেরাও তাই করল। সেইজন্য হিষ্কিয়ের দিনের সদাপ্রভুর ক্রোধ তাদের উপর নেমে আসল না।

27 And Hezekiah had very much riches and honour; and he made himself treasuries for silver, and for gold, and for precious stones, and for spices, and for shields, and for all manner of pleasant vessels;

২৭হিষ্কিয়ের অনেক ধন সম্পদ ও সম্মান ছিল। তাঁর নিজের জন্য সোনা রূপা, মণি মুক্তা, সুগন্ধি মশলা, ঢাল ও সমস্ত রকম দামী জিনিস (অলংকার) রাখবার জন্য তিনি ধনভান্ডার তৈরী করালেন।

28 storehouses also for the increase of corn and new wine and oil, and stalls for all manner of beasts, and [he procured] flocks for the stalls.

২৮এছাড়া তিনি শস্য, নতুন আঙুর রস ও তেল রাখবার জন্য ভান্ডার ঘর তৈরী করালেন এবং বিভিন্ন রকম পশু, ছাগল ও ভেড়ার থাকবার ঘরও তৈরী করালেন।

29 And he provided for himself cities, and possessions of flocks and herds in abundance; for God gave him very much substance.

২৯তিনি নিজের জন্য অনেক গ্রাম ও শহর গড়ে তুললেন। তাঁর গরু, ছাগল ও ভেড়ার সংখ্যা অনেক হল, কারণ ঈশ্বর তাঁকে অনেক ধন সম্পদ দিয়েছিলেন।

30 And he, Hezekiah, stopped the upper outlet of the waters of Gihon, and brought it straight down to the west side of the city of David. And Hezekiah prospered in all his works.

৩০এই হিষ্কিয় গীহোন ফোয়ারার উপরের মুখ বন্ধ করে দায়ূদ শহরের পশ্চিম দিক দিয়ে জল নিয়ে গিয়েছিলেন। তিনি তাঁর সকল কাজেই সফল হয়েছিলেন।

31 However in [the matter of] the ambassadors of the princes of Babylon, who sent to him to inquire of the wonder that was done in the land, God left him, to try him, that he might know all [that was] in his heart.

৩১দেশে যে আশ্চর্য্য চিহ্ন দেখানো হয়েছিল সেই বিষয় জিজ্ঞাসা করবার জন্য যখন বাবিলের নেতারা দূত পাঠিয়েছিলেন তখন ঈশ্বর তাঁকে পরীক্ষা করবার জন্য তাঁকে ছেড়ে চলে গিয়েছিলেন, যাতে তাঁর মনে কি আছে তা প্রকাশ পায়।

32 And the rest of the acts of Hezekiah and his good deeds, behold, they are written in the vision of the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.

৩২হিষ্কিয়ের অন্যান্য সমস্ত কাজের কথা এবং তাঁর ঈশ্বরভক্তির কাজ সম্বন্ধে আমোসের ছেলে ভাববাদী যিশাইয়ের দর্শনের বইতে এবং “যিহূদা ও ইস্রায়েলের রাজাদের ইতিহাস” নামে বইটিতে লেখা আছে।

33 And Hezekiah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the highest place of the sepulchres of the sons of David; and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem did him honour at his death. And Manasseh his son reigned in his stead.

৩৩পরে হিষ্কিয় তাঁর পূর্বপুরুষদের সঙ্গে ঘুমিয়ে পড়লেন এবং দায়ূদের বংশধরদের কবরের জায়গার উপরের জায়গায় তাঁকে কবর দেওয়া হল। তিনি মারা যাবার দিন যিহূদার সকলে এবং যিরূশালেমের লোকেরা তাঁকে উচ্চকৃত করলো। তাঁর ছেলে মনঃশি তাঁর জায়গায় রাজা হলেন।
