2 Chronicles 11
1 And Rehoboam came to Jerusalem; and he assembled the house of Judah and Benjamin, a hundred and eighty thousand chosen men apt for war, to fight against Israel, that he might bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam.
レハベアムはエルサレムに来て、ユダとベニヤミンの家の者、すなわち、えり抜きの軍人十八万人を集め、国を取りもどすためにイスラエルと戦おうとしたが、
2 But the word of Jehovah came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying,
主の言葉が神の人シマヤに臨んで言った、
3 Speak unto Rehoboam, the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and unto all Israel in Judah and Benjamin, saying,
「ソロモンの子、ユダの王レハベアムおよびユダとベニヤミンにいるすべてのイスラエルの人々に言いなさい、
4 Thus saith Jehovah: Go not up, nor fight with your brethren; return every man to his house; for this thing is from me. And they hearkened to the words of Jehovah, and returned from going against Jeroboam.
『主はこう仰せられる、あなたがたは上ってはならない。あなたがたの兄弟と戦ってはならない。おのおの自分の家に帰りなさい。この事はわたしから出たのである』」。それで人々は主の言葉を聞き、ヤラベアムを攻めに行くのをやめて帰った。
5 And Rehoboam dwelt in Jerusalem, and built cities for defence in Judah.
レハベアムはエルサレムに住んで、ユダに防衛の町々を建てた。
6 And he built Bethlehem, and Etam, and Tekoa,
すなわちベツレヘム、エタム、テコア、
7 and Beth-zur, and Soco, and Adullam,
ベテズル、ソコ、アドラム、
8 and Gath, and Mareshah, and Ziph,
ガテ、マレシャ、ジフ、
9 and Adoraim, and Lachish, and Azekah,
アドライム、ラキシ、アゼカ、
10 and Zorah, and Ajalon, and Hebron, which are in Judah and in Benjamin, fortified cities.
ゾラ、アヤロン、およびヘブロン。これらはユダとベニヤミンにあって要害の町々である。
11 And he fortified the strongholds, and put captains in them, and stores of victuals, and of oil and wine;
彼はその要害を堅固にし、これに軍長を置き、糧食と油とぶどう酒をたくわえ、
12 and in every several city, targets and spears, and made them exceedingly strong. And Judah and Benjamin were his.
またそのすべての町に盾とやりを備えて、これを非常に強化し、そしてユダとベニヤミンを確保した。
13 And the priests and the Levites that were in all Israel resorted to him out of all their districts;
イスラエルの全地の祭司とレビびとは四方の境から来てレハベアムに身を寄せた。
14 for the Levites left their suburbs and their possessions, and came to Judah and Jerusalem: for Jeroboam and his sons had cast them off from exercising the priesthood to Jehovah;
すなわちレビびとは自分の放牧地と領地を離れてユダとエルサレムに来た。これはヤラベアムとその子らが彼らを排斥して、主の前に祭司の務をさせなかったためである。
15 and he ordained for himself priests for the high places, and for the he-goats and for the calves that he had made.
ヤラベアムは高き所と、みだらな神と、自分で造った子牛のために自分の祭司を立てた。
16 — And after them, those out of all the tribes of Israel that set their heart to seek Jehovah the God of Israel came to Jerusalem, to sacrifice to Jehovah the God of their fathers.
またイスラエルのすべての部族のうちで、すべてその心を傾けて、イスラエルの神、主を求める者は先祖の神、主に犠牲をささげるために、レビびとに従ってエルサレムに来た。
17 And they strengthened the kingdom of Judah, and made Rehoboam the son of Solomon strong three years; for during three years they walked in the way of David and Solomon.
このように彼らはユダの国を堅くし、ソロモンの子レハベアムを三年の間強くした。彼らは三年の間ダビデとソロモンの道に歩んだからである。
18 And Rehoboam took Mahalath the daughter of Jerimoth the son of David as wife, [and of] Abihail the daughter of Eliab the son of Jesse.
レハベアムはダビデの子エレモテの娘マハラテを妻にめとった。マハラテはエッサイの子エリアブの娘アビハイルが産んだ者である。
19 And she bore him children: Jeush, and Shemariah, and Zaham.
彼女はエウシ、シマリヤおよびザハムの三子を産んだ。
20 And after her he took Maachah the daughter of Absalom; and she bore him Abijah, and Attai, and Ziza, and Shelomith.
彼はまた彼女の後にアブサロムの娘マアカをめとった。マアカはアビヤ、アッタイ、ジザおよびシロミテを産んだ。
21 And Rehoboam loved Maachah the daughter of Absalom above all his wives and his concubines; for he had taken eighteen wives and sixty concubines, and he begot twenty-eight sons and sixty daughters.
レハベアムはアブサロムの娘マアカをすべての妻とそばめにまさって愛した。彼は妻十八人、そばめ六十人をめとって、男の子二十八人と女の子六十人をもうけた。
22 And Rehoboam established Abijah the son of Maachah at the head, to be ruler among his brethren; for [he thought] to make him king.
レハベアムはマアカの子アビヤを立ててかしらとし、その兄弟の長とした。彼はアビヤを王にしようと思ったからである。
23 And he dealt wisely, and dispersed of all his sons throughout all the lands of Judah and Benjamin, to all the fortified cities; and he gave them food in abundance. And he desired [for them] a multitude of wives.
それで王は賢くとり行い、そのむすこたちをことごとく、ユダとベニヤミンの全地方にあるすべての要害の町に散在させ、彼らに糧食を多く与え、また多くの妻を得させた。
