2 Chronicles 10
1 And Rehoboam went to Shechem; for all Israel had come to Shechem to make him king.
[南北分裂]勒哈貝罕去了舍根，因為全以色列人集合在舍根，要立他為王。
2 And it came to pass when Jeroboam the son of Nebat heard it (now he was in Egypt, whither he had fled from the presence of king Solomon) that Jeroboam returned out of Egypt.
乃巴特的兒子雅絡貝罕，─為躲避撒羅滿王，曾逃往埃及，─一聽見這事，便從埃及回來，
3 And they sent and called him; and Jeroboam and all Israel came and spoke to Rehoboam saying,
有人派人去請了他來，他便和全以色列人前來對勒哈貝罕說：
4 Thy father made our yoke grievous; and now lighten the grievous servitude of thy father, and his heavy yoke that he put upon us, and we will serve thee.
「你的父親使我們的負擔繁重，現在請你減輕你父親加給我們的苦役喊重軛，我們縩肯服事你! 」
5 And he said to them, Come again to me after three days. And the people departed.
他回答他們說：「三天以後，你們再來見我。」人民都走了。
6 And king Rehoboam consulted with the old men, who had stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying, How do ye advise to return answer to this people?
勒哈貝罕王同那些在他父親撒羅滿生時作臣僕的老年人商議，問他們說：「你們有什麼主意，叫我好答覆這些人民﹖」
7 And they spoke to him saying, If thou be kind to this people, and please them, and speak good words to them, they will be thy servants for ever.
他們回答說：「如果你今日善待這些百姓，使他們心悅，向他們說好話，他們必會常常服事你。」
8 But he forsook the advice of the old men which they had given him, and consulted with the young men, who had grown up with him, that stood before him.
但是，君王竟拒絕老年人給他出的主意，反去同那些與他一同長大，侍立在他面前的少年人商議，
9 And he said to them, What advice give ye that we may return answer to this people, who have spoken to me saying, Lighten the yoke which thy father put upon us?
問他們說：「這些人民對我說：請你將你父親給我們加給我們的負擔減輕些。你們有什麼主意，好使我答覆他們﹖」
10 And the young men that had grown up with him spoke to him saying, Thus shalt thou say to the people who have spoken to thee saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, and lighten thou it for us, — thus shalt thou say to them: My little [finger] is thicker than my father's loins;
那些與他一同長大的少年人答說：「這些百姓曾對你說：你父親曾加重我們的負擔，請你給我們減輕些。你要這樣回答他們，這樣對他們說：我的小指比我父親的腰還粗；
11 and whereas my father laid a heavy yoke upon you, I will add to your yoke: my father chastised you with whips, but I [will chastise you] with scorpions.
我父親曾加給你你們重擔，我更要加重你們的負擔；我父親用鞭子責打你們，我卻要用鐵刺鞭責打你們。」
12 And Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the king had appointed saying, Come again to me on the third day.
雅洛貝罕和全人民照君王所說「你們第三天再來見我」的話，第三天來見勒哈貝罕王。
13 And the king answered them roughly; and king Rehoboam forsook the advice of the old men,
嚴厲答覆了人民；勒哈貝罕王拋棄了老年人的意見，
14 and spoke to them according to the advice of the young men, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add to it; my father chastised you with whips, but I [will chastise you] with scorpions.
依照少年人的主張答覆人民說：「我的父親加重了你們的負擔，我更要加重；我父親用鞭子責打你們，我要用鐵刺鞭責打你們。」
15 So the king hearkened not to the people; for it was brought about by God, that Jehovah might give effect to his word, which he spoke through Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.
君王始終不肯聽從人民；這種轉變原是出於天主，為實現上主藉史羅人阿希雅論及乃巴特的兒子雅洛貝罕所說的話。
16 And all Israel saw that the king hearkened not to them; and the people answered the king saying, What portion have we in David? and [we have] no inheritance in the son of Jesse: every man to your tents, O Israel. Now see to thine own house, David! And all Israel went to their tents.
全以色列人見王不肯依從他們，便回覆君王說：「我們與達味有什麼分子﹖我們與葉瑟的兒子毫無關係! 以色列! 回到你的帳幕去! 達味現在你只顧你本家罷! 」於是全以色列人都回了自己的帳幕，
17 But as for the children of Israel that dwelt in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them.
只那些住在猶大城內的以色列子民，歸勒哈貝罕統治。
18 And king Rehoboam sent Hadoram, who was over the levy; but the children of Israel stoned him with stones, that he died. And king Rehoboam hastened to mount his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem.
勒哈貝罕王派遣監管勞役的阿多蘭去見以色列，以色列子民卻用石頭將他砸死；勒哈貝罕王急忙上車，逃回了耶路撒冷。
19 And Israel rebelled against the house of David, unto this day.
這樣，以色列叛離達味王朝，直到現在。
