1 Timothy 5
1 Rebuke not an elder sharply, but exhort [him] as a father, younger [men] as brethren,
কোনো প্রবীণ ব্যক্তিকে কঠোরভাবে তিরস্কার কোরো না, বরং তাঁকে তোমার বাবার মতো মনে করে বিনীতভাবে অনুরোধ করো। যুবকদের ছোটো ভাইয়ের মতো মনে করো।
2 elder women as mothers, younger women as sisters, with all purity.
প্রবীণাদের মায়ের মতো এবং তরুণীদের সঙ্গে সম্পূর্ণ শুদ্ধভাবে বোনের মতো আচরণ করো।
3 Honour widows who are really widows;
প্রকৃত দুস্থ বিধবাদের যথাযথ স্বীকৃতি দিয়ো।
4 but if any widow have children or descendants, let them learn first to be pious as regards their own house, and to render a return on their side to [their] parents; for this is acceptable in the sight of God.
কিন্তু কোনো বিধবার যদি সন্তানসন্ততি বা নাতি-নাতনি থাকে, তবে তাদের প্রথম দায়িত্ব হল নিজেদের বাড়িতে তাদের পরিবারের তত্ত্বাবধান করা এবং তাদের বাবা-মা ও দাদু-দিদার প্রতি ঋণ পরিশোধ করা। এভাবেই তারা তাদের ধর্মীয় কর্তব্য পালন করবে এবং তা ঈশ্বরের চোখে সন্তোষজনক।
5 Now she who [is] a widow indeed, and is left alone, has put [her] hope in God, and continues in supplications and prayers night and day.
যে বিধবা প্রকৃতই নিঃস্ব ও একেবারেই নিঃসঙ্গ, সে ঈশ্বরের উপরেই প্রত্যাশা রাখে এবং দিনরাত প্রার্থনায় রত থেকে ঈশ্বরের কাছে সাহায্য প্রার্থনা করে।
6 But she that lives in habits of self-indulgence is dead [while] living.
কিন্তু যে বিধবা শারীরিক কামনার বশে জীবনযাপন করে, সে জীবিত থেকেও মৃত।
7 And these things enjoin, that they may be irreproachable.
তুমি তাদের এই শিক্ষা দাও, যেন কেউ তাদের নিন্দা করার সুযোগ না পায়।
8 But if any one does not provide for his own, and specially for those of [his] house, he has denied the faith, and is worse than the unbeliever.
কেউ যদি তার আত্মীয়স্বজনের, বিশেষত পরিবারের আপনজনদের ভরণ-পোষণ না করে, সে বিশ্বাস অস্বীকার করেছে এবং অবিশ্বাসীর চেয়েও নিকৃষ্ট প্রতিপন্ন হয়েছে।
9 Let a widow be put upon the list, being of not less than sixty years, [having been] wife of one man,
তাঁরই নাম বিধবাদের তালিকাভুক্ত হবে, যাঁর বয়স ষাট বছরের বেশি এবং যিনি তাঁর স্বামীর প্রতি বিশ্বস্ত ছিলেন;
10 borne witness to in good works, if she have brought up children, if she have exercised hospitality, if she have washed saints' feet, if she have imparted relief to the distressed, if she have diligently followed every good work.
যিনি বিভিন্ন সৎকর্মের জন্য সুপরিচিত, যেমন সন্তানের লালনপালন, আতিথেয়তা, পবিত্রগণের পা ধুয়ে দেওয়া, বিপন্নদের সাহায্য করা এবং সর্বপ্রকার সৎকর্মে আত্মনিয়োগ করেছেন।
11 But younger widows decline; for when they grow wanton against Christ, they desire to marry,
অল্পবয়স্ক বিধবাদের নাম এই ধরনের তালিকায় অন্তর্ভুক্ত কোরো না। কারণ খ্রীষ্টের প্রতি আত্মনিবেদনের চেয়ে, তাদের শারীরিক কামনাবাসনা যখন প্রবল হয়ে ওঠে, তখন তারা বিবাহ করতে চায়।
12 being guilty, because they have cast off their first faith.
এভাবে তারা প্রথম প্রতিশ্রুতি ভেঙে নিজেদের অপরাধী করে তোলে আর নিজের উপরে শাস্তি ডেকে আনে।
13 And, at the same time, they learn also [to be] idle, going about to people's houses; and not only idle, but also gossipers and meddlers, speaking things not becoming.
এছাড়া তারা অলসতায় জীবনযাপন করতে এবং বাড়ি বাড়ি ঘুরে বেড়াতে অভ্যস্ত হয়ে পড়ে। তারা যে শুধু অলসই হয়, তা নয়, তারা অনধিকারচর্চা এবং কুৎসা-রটনা করে যা বলা উচিত নয়, এমন কথা বলে বেড়ায়।
14 I will therefore that the younger marry, bear children, rule the house, give no occasion to the adversary in respect of reproach.
তাই অল্পবয়স্ক বিধবাদের প্রতি আমার উপদেশ: তারা বিবাহ করুক, সন্তানের জন্ম দিক, তাদের গৃহের দেখাশোনা করুক এবং মিথ্যা কলঙ্ক দেওয়ার কোনো সুযোগ যেন শত্রুকে না দেয়।
15 For already some have turned aside after Satan.
বাস্তবিক, কেউ কেউ ইতিমধ্যেই ভুল পথে গিয়ে শয়তানের অনুগামী হয়েছে।
16 If any believing man or woman have widows, let them impart relief to them, and let not the assembly be charged, that it may impart relief to those [that are] widows indeed.
বিশ্বাসী কোনো মহিলার পরিবারে যদি বিধবারা থাকে, তাহলে সে তাদের সাহায্য করুক, তাদের জন্য মণ্ডলীকে যেন দায়িত্বভার নিতে না হয়; সেক্ষেত্রে যে বিধবারা সত্যিসত্যিই দুস্থ, মণ্ডলী তাদের সাহায্য করতে পারবে।
17 Let the elders who take the lead [among the saints] well be esteemed worthy of double honour, specially those labouring in word and teaching;
যেসব প্রাচীন মণ্ডলীর কাজকর্ম ভালোভাবে পরিচালনা করেন, তাঁরা দ্বিগুণ সম্মানের যোগ্য, বিশেষ করে যাঁরা প্রচারক ও শিক্ষক।
18 for the scripture says, Thou shalt not muzzle an ox that treadeth out corn, and, The workman [is] worthy of his hire.
কারণ শাস্ত্র বলে, “শস্য মাড়াই করার সময় বলদের মুখে জালতি বেঁধো না” এবং “কর্মচারী তার বেতন পাওয়ার যোগ্য”
19 Against an elder receive not an accusation unless where there are two or three witnesses.
দুজন কি তিনজন সাক্ষীর সমর্থন ছাড়া কোনো প্রাচীনের বিরুদ্ধে নিয়ে আসা অভিযোগকে গ্রাহ্য কোরো না।
20 Those that sin convict before all, that the rest also may have fear.
যারা পাপ করে, প্রকাশ্যে তাদের তিরস্কার করো, যেন অন্যেরা সতর্ক হতে পারে।
21 I testify before God and Christ Jesus and the elect angels, that thou keep these things without prejudice, doing nothing by favour.
ঈশ্বর, খ্রীষ্ট যীশু এবং মনোনীত দূতদের সাক্ষাতে আমি তোমাকে আদেশ দিচ্ছি, এসব নির্দেশ নিরপেক্ষভাবে পালন করো, পক্ষপাতিত্বের বশে কোনো কিছুই কোরো না।
22 Lay hands quickly on no man, nor partake in others' sins. Keep thyself pure.
সত্বর কারও উপরে হাত রেখো না; অপরের পাপের ভাগী হোয়ো না; নিজেকে শুচিশুদ্ধ রেখো।
23 Drink no longer only water, but use a little wine on account of thy stomach and thy frequent illnesses.
এখন থেকে শুধু জলপান কোরো না, তোমার পাকস্থলীর রোগ এবং বারবার অসুস্থতার জন্য একটু দ্রাক্ষারস পান কোরো।
24 Of some men the sins are manifest beforehand, going before to judgment, and some also they follow after.
কিছু লোকের পাপ স্পষ্ট ধরা পড়ে এবং তা বিচারের অপেক্ষা রাখে না, কিন্তু অন্যদের পাপ পরবর্তীকালে ধরা পড়ে।
25 In like manner good works also are manifest beforehand, and those that are otherwise cannot be hid.
একইভাবে, সৎ কর্মগুলি সুস্পষ্ট দেখা যায়, এমনকি, যদি নাও দেখা যায়, সেগুলি ঢেকে রাখা যায় না।
