1 Samuel 22
1 And David departed thence, and escaped to the cave of Adullam. And his brethren and all his father's house heard [it], and they went down thither to him.
David partit de là et s’enfuit dans la caverne d’Odollam. Ses frères et toute la maison de son père l’ayant appris, ils descendirent là, vers lui.
2 And every one in distress, and every one that was in debt, and every one of embittered spirit collected round him; and he became a captain over them; and there were with him about four hundred men.
Tous les opprimés, tous ceux qui avaient des créanciers et tous ceux qui étaient dans l’amertume, se rassemblèrent auprès de lui, et il devint leur chef; il y eut ainsi avec lui environ quatre cents hommes.
3 And David went thence to Mizpeh in Moab, and said to the king of Moab, Let my father and my mother, I pray thee, come forth amongst you, till I know what God will do for me.
De là, David s’en alla à Maspha de Moab. Il dit au roi de Moab: « Que mon père et ma mère puissent, je te prie, se retirer chez vous, jusqu’à ce que je sache ce que Dieu fera de moi. »
4 And he brought them before the king of Moab; and they abode with him all the while that David was in the stronghold.
Et il les amena devant le roi de Moab, et ils demeurèrent chez lui tout le temps que David fut dans le lieu fort.
5 And the prophet Gad said to David, Abide not in the stronghold; depart, and go into the land of Judah. Then David departed, and came into the forest of Hareth.
Le prophète Gad dit à David: « Ne reste pas dans le lieu fort; va-t’en et reviens dans le pays de Juda. » Et David s’en alla et se rendit à la forêt de Haret.
6 And Saul heard that David was discovered, and the men that were with him. Now Saul was sitting in Gibeah under the tamarisk upon the height, having his spear in his hand, and all his servants were standing by him.
Saül apprit que David et les gens qui étaient avec lui avaient été reconnus. Or Saül était assis, à Gabaa, sous le tamarisque, sur la hauteur, sa lance à la main, et tous ses serviteurs étaient rangés devant lui.
7 Then Saul said to his servants that stood by him, Hear now, ye Benjaminites: will the son of Jesse give every one of you also fields and vineyards? Will he make you all captains of thousands and captains of hundreds,
Saül dit à ses serviteurs qui étaient rangés devant lui: « Ecoutez, Benjamites: le fils d’Isaï vous donnera-t-il aussi à tous des champs et des vignes, fera-t-il de vous tous des chefs de milliers et des chefs de centaines,
8 that all of you have conspired against me, and there is none that informs me when my son has made [a covenant] with the son of Jesse; and there is none of you that is sorry for me, or informs me that my son has stirred up my servant as a lier-in-wait against me, as at this day?
que vous vous soyez tous ligués contre moi, qu’il n’y ait personne qui m’ait informé que mon fils a fait alliance avec le fils d’Isaï, et que nul de vous n’en souffre pour moi et ne m’avertisse que mon fils a soulevé mon serviteur contre moi, pour me dresser des embûches, comme il le fait aujourd’hui? »
9 Then answered Doeg the Edomite, who was set over the servants of Saul, and said, I saw the son of Jesse coming to Nob, to Ahimelech the son of Ahitub.
Doëg, l’Edomite, qui était le chef des serviteurs de Saül, répondit et dit: « J’ai vu le fils d’Isaï venir à Nobé, auprès d’Achimélech, fils d’Achitob.
10 And he inquired of Jehovah for him, and gave him victuals, and gave him the sword of Goliath the Philistine.
Achimélech a consulté pour lui Yahweh, et il lui a donné des vivres; il lui a aussi donné l’épée de Goliath, le Philistin. »
11 Then the king sent to call Ahimelech the priest, the son of Ahitub, and all his father's house, the priests that were in Nob; and they came all of them to the king.
Le roi envoya appeler le prêtre Achimélech, fils d’Achitob, et toute la maison de son père, les prêtres qui étaient à Nobé.
12 And Saul said, Hear now, son of Ahitub. And he answered, Here I am, my lord.
Ils vinrent tous vers le roi; et Saül dit: « Ecoute, fils d’Achitob! » Il répondit: « Me voici, mon seigneur. »
13 And Saul said to him, Why have ye conspired against me, thou and the son of Jesse, in that thou hast given him bread, and a sword, and hast inquired of God for him, that he should rise against me as a lier-in-wait, as at this day?
Saül lui dit: « Pourquoi vous êtes-vous ligués contre moi, toi et le fils d’Isaï? Tu lui as donné du pain et une épée, et tu as consulté Dieu pour lui, pour qu’il s’élève contre moi et me dresse des embûches, comme il le fait aujourd’hui? »
14 And Ahimelech answered the king and said, And who is so faithful among all thy servants as David, who is the king's son-in-law, and has access to thy secret council, and is honourable in thy house?
Achimélech répondit au roi et dit: « Lequel d’entre tous tes serviteurs est, comme David, d’une fidélité éprouvée, gendre du roi, admis à tes conseils et honoré dans ta maison?
15 Was it to-day that I began to inquire of God for him? be it far from me: let not the king charge anything to his servant, [nor] to all the house of my father; for thy servant knew nothing of all this, less or more.
Est-ce aujourd’hui que j’aurais commencé à consulter Dieu pour lui? Loin de moi! Que le roi ne mette pas à la charge de son serviteur une chose qui pèserait sur toute la maison de mon père, car ton serviteur n’a rien su de tout cela, ni peu ni beaucoup. »
16 And the king said, Thou shalt certainly die, Ahimelech, thou, and all thy father's house.
Le roi dit: « Tu mourras, Achimélech, toi et toute la maison de ton père. »
17 And the king said to the couriers that stood about him, Turn and put the priests of Jehovah to death; because their hand also is with David, and because they knew when he fled, and did not inform me. But the servants of the king were not willing to put forth their hand to fall on the priests of Jehovah.
Et le roi dit aux gardes qui se tenaient près de lui: « Tournez-vous et mettez à mort les prêtres de Yahweh; car leur main est avec David et, sachant bien qu’il était en fuite, ils ne m’en ont pas informé. » Mais les serviteurs du roi ne voulurent pas étendre la main pour frapper les prêtres de Yahweh.
18 And the king said to Doeg, Turn thou, and fall on the priests. And Doeg the Edomite turned, and fell on the priests, and put to death that day eighty-five persons who wore the linen ephod.
Alors le roi dit à Doëg: « Tourne-toi et frappe les prêtres. » Et Doëg l’Edomite se tourna, et ce fut lui qui frappa les prêtres; il mit à mort en ce jour quatre-vingt-cinq hommes portant l’éphod de lin.
19 And Nob, the city of the priests, he smote with the edge of the sword, both men and women, infants and sucklings, and oxen, and asses, and sheep, with the edge of the sword.
Saül frappa encore du tranchant de l’épée Nobé, ville sacerdotale: hommes et femmes, enfants et nourrissons, bœufs, ânes et brebis, furent passés au fil de l’épée.
20 And one of the sons of Ahimelech the son of Ahitub, named Abiathar, escaped, and fled after David.
Un seul fils d’Achimélech, fils d’Achitob, s’échappa; son nom était Abiathar, et il se réfugia auprès de David.
21 And Abiathar informed David that Saul had slain Jehovah's priests.
Abiathar annonça à David que Saül avait tué les prêtres de Yahweh.
22 And David said to Abiathar, I knew it that day, when Doeg the Edomite was there, that he would certainly tell Saul: I am accountable for all the lives of thy father's house.
Et David dit à Abiathar: « Je savais bien, en ce jour-là, que Doëg l’Edomite, qui était là, ne manquerai pas d’informer Saül. C’est moi qui suis cause de la mort de toute la maison de ton père.
23 Abide with me, fear not; for he that seeks my life seeks thy life; for with me thou art in safe keeping.
Reste avec moi, ne crains rien; car celui qui en veut à ma vie en veut à ta vie, et près de moi tu auras bonne garde. »
